    After 50 years of Skateboarding, my favorite "Go anywhere, Ride anything" set-up that I would recommend for anyone at any level and what I carry in the car is a bamboo, 34" Sector 9 - Fort Point Eden and Paris V3 180s with 50f/43r baseplates, Pat's Risers 3-D Insert Bushings for Paris hangers(optional but very effective at eliminating 'Paris Slop' at higher speeds) and 66mm Blood Orange MPS 80a wheels with Zealous bearings(still $15.99😉). That set-up is about as low, wide and just long enough to be as stable as it gets AND it has a kicktail. There is nowhere you can't ride that set up if you adjust the kingpin locknuts 1/2 turn in either direction for the situation.

    Thank you so much for all your helpful videos man! Your longboard vs cruiser vs skateboard video that popped up on my recommended page in 2021 was actually what got me into cruising/longboarding. I got a dinghy from your review and really enjoyed that. Just recently managed to snag a a comet cruiser when there was only 2 left in their stock and I'm so pumped to ride it this week! I'm so glad you're back to making these super helpful informative videos.

    I went all in on my first longboard/freeride/downhill board. I have the moonshine proscrito. The W concave sold me on it. Then I reached out to the UA-cam downhill community to figure the trucks and wheels. The setup was an adventure of its own. Then I went straight to learning slides and that is where I am now. Probably not the best method. But I just trusted my skateboarding experience to go for it. I just need to find more local spots. Driving to Asheville North Carolina takes 4 hours.
    Ok there is a way too long of a unnecessary comment 😂.

    Only nice thing about amazon is the return policy if you don't like the board. I did do that once where I was unsure about a style of board. Bought it, then returned it after trying it for 2 hours. Then I went to my local shop and got a santa cruz drop through and fell in love. I'll go there for new parts now and then and the staff there are amazing.
    What I do like also is going through manufacturers directly and going through their garage/sale section for boards that got "messed up" in production and they're sold cheaper. In many cases, those boards look pretty flawless still. Got myself a Carver surfskate for $90 (I think it had to be a mistake lol their average sale prices are 160-190). Couldn't find imperfections so I felt lucky! Also got a dinghy that retailed for $159, and got it for $119 :)

    *Pantheon Trip/Pranaya is a good one to start, very low to ground so easier to push, small and easy to carry.*

    I started out skating about 1,5 years back and my (money-sensitive) approach was to buy used boards. Typically, you get a massive discount (usually about 60-70%) without any relevant draw-backs (just small dents that would happen anyway). If you dislike the board, just sell it, typically with only minimal loss or even a small margin if you made a bargain yourself. Try selling an Amazon board - you'll lose 60%+ when selling in the second hand market after unwrapping.
    The main advantage with this approach is that you can try out different boards without committing financially to one thing of which you have no idea whether it will suit your needs or not. Plus, you do not put your money in a global monopolist such as Amazon but pay your fellow skater.
    That being said, some things wear quicker than others and I typically replaced bushings and put on my own soft wheels with decent bearings on any board I bought. I own a set of Peralta Snakes 69mm with Zealous bearing that fit almost everything (even a Dinghy with a bit of riser). Cheaper soft wheels are fine as well. Equipped with your own set of well-rolling wheels, you can make any used deck-truck combination work immediately and find out which board type you really like.

    I’m a newb @ 50yoa and bought a cheap drop deck at big 5 and put some redz bearings in it . Since I have got my hands on a free pin tail and added some Paris trutks to it . I also purchased an electric board. Pintail w Paris trucks carves better and it’s easier to control speed , electric board is sluggish to carve as you need a stiffer set up for the speed capability And it’s heavy and expensive . At the end of the day I like the drop deck for pushing , moderate down hills and stability . The long pin tail feels super flexy and like it might get unstable at speed around 20. Prob the perfect trade off in all the attributes would be a drop through. But I’m content with my drop deck and it’s the board I prefer out of the 3

    There was one year where Costco had magneto Longboards and they were pretty decent for the money. For me the long boarding store was very far so I bit the bullet and went on Amazon. Billy is so right about the wheels being of poor quality. Don’t cheap out. It is worth it to get a Landyachtz complete or just buy a quality used longboard if you’re starting out. The Amazon stuff I got I just plain regretted.

    Ah man, another Title I have a script already recorded :D
    But as always great video!
    The used first option is by far my favorite. Get those amazon boards for 10 bucks used!
    Then if you like it, go for something good ;)

    Cheapest is local skate shop blank board, cheap named trucks, (prob. mini logo) just get which combo is cheapest don't stress the width each has advantages/disadvantages. Add risers AND wedged risers which work for the board/truck/wheels you get with 58mm to 66mm SOFT wheels and you can pretty much try it all at a beginner level and work out where to go that your body can follow.

    my first board (and still main board) was a custom board of all the discount and clearance parts, 38 inch downhill sector 9 9 layer deck, caliber downhill trucks, and sector nine top shelf slalom wheels. ended up at $200 but heavy as shit when all my friends had cheap skateboards lol

    Nice update! I plan to make something similar, but for LDP, like pros and cons of varius options.
    For everyone interested, there's already an introductive video on LDP on my channel 😉🍕
    Ps: of your bearigs aren't terrible, like making creaking noises, the wheels are probably the thing slowing you down, at least in my experience🧐

    Hey brother, I’ve been watching your videos and it’s been really good to hear informed reviews from you.
    I recently regained my old passion for skateboarding specifically surf skating and cruisers, I am 43 now and a lot bigger than before lol.
    I just want something to do the last mile to work after getting out of the bus and to let me cruise around the city of London on my days off when I go around to practice my photography.
    Im a big guy 280 pounds big but I always have fun riding my skate board when I go to Portugal on my holidays.
    I would love to get some advice from you, plus I go for my birthday an unlimited race kit that I was planning to put on my Hamboard logger that I have in Portugal but if you know of any mini cruiser or cruiser that I can get and install the kit I would be very interested in hearing from you

    @agent3012 3 місяці тому

    Recommendations for heavier beginners? Currently down to 280 lbs but would probably want as much weight capacity as possible to reduce stress on the board.

    Exactly what I needed to hear, especially since I just bought my first board (got a great deal on it too!). By the way, I've been experiencing a burning sensation in my shin area every time I skate, even after just a few minutes. I've been focusing on bending my knees and leaning forward to keep my balance and avoid falling backward. Could this be causing it, or do you think it's just my muscles adjusting to these new movements?

    • @ZackRamsey14
      @ZackRamsey14 7 місяців тому

      I'd guess it's your muscles getting used to it, as this has happened to me before and after a few sessions it starts to get less and less. Best advice, maybe not what you'd expect, but carb up after a session and also get some protein. This shit is demanding on the body and proper recovery is key, least it was for me. It can be the equivalent of leg day at the gym lol, get some solid nutrition in ya after a hard session

    You've said that if your board feels slow and sluggish its probably the wheels, but what if it doesn't feel like it holds speed for long, would that be bearings then?
