- Sometimes the sequel is even better. Today we are back and we are looking at the new firmware for the GFI Synesthesia dual engine modulator. This is more than just a simple firmware update; we've got a ton of new sounds ranging from lo-fi vinyl sounds all the way to Sample and Hold / Arpeggiated Flangers. It'll make sense when we get there, promise. Between now and then, lets just dive in.

Always brings a smile to my face hearing you play. Great stuff Mark.
Oh man, that gritty swell at @ 10:20 was so good!
I listen to this demo from time to time just to get relaxed. :) Beautiful work, both from you and GFi. :)
Great video!!! the tones you get bro are sick! Dig the channel!
Really close to picking one up. Never got into mod pedals as much as verb and delay, but this looks like too much fun. This also gets me excited for the new Specular Tempus style in the bigger enclosure with dual algos. Such an awesome company!
Love the song, such a good vibe
great video!
I'm kind of craving a modulation pedal but as a person who has traditionally HATED modulation. This thing feels so musical and like something that can cover any and every sound I could possibly need. Kind of looking for a multi-modulation thing that could cover an octave type things I could want with the warbly lofi and chorus type tones. I have kind of fallen in love with some indie music and found that chorus doesn't have to suck ass if used in the right way and could be super musical. This video was inspiring and I can't wait to get one of these to try out on my own.
I'm between this and an Eventide H9. Since I already have a good delay and reverb, the Synesthesia might be a better option specially for the dual engine :)
I have the H9 Max, used to have 2. I just ordered this. I feel like the H9 is kind of dated now and personally never fell in love with any of the algorithms other than blackhole and some delays. The modulation wasn’t great, for me at least. I’m not sure if you’ve had a chance to sit down with an H9 yet, if not definitely try to A/B these pedals. The H9 may be right for you, It’s definitely popular but for me the Synesthesia just sounds more modern and is more usable for me.
Hi Mark! Thanks for your reviews, you discovered me this awesome pedal. I was on the mood to buy the Boss MD-500 but I found the Synesthesia much more complete and impressing... could you give me your opinion if you'd buy it over the MD-500, or even the Strymon Mobius? Thank you!
Hey Mark! Love your videos. I'm stuck between the GFI Synesthesia and the Mako M1. What would you suggest I go with? I briefly had a Mako and enjoyed the tones but it had some volume issues and needed to be returned.
I just bought one... your review videos played a big part.
If you could share your settings for the Drum 《《 Bitcrusher I'd be delighted :)
Thanks for the great vids 👍
How would you compare the modulation sounds of the GFI System Synesthesia with those of the Poly Beebo or the Eventide H9? I have the feeling it sounds more natural and organic?
wow, you could talk about a door stop and make me want to buy one.
To be fair doorstops are super useful.
What is the cable used for stereo split for the Iridium?
How close do you think you can get to a Gen Loss vibe with this thing?
Do you still think the Synesthesia has some relevance in the field of dual modulation pedals? I really considering to get one - despite the fact it's hard to find proper reviews
Hi Mark. Was wondering if at the 12:06 mark, the riff was a nod to the band Doves? Very cool 😎
Haven't heard of them. But I guess now I need to check them out.
@@markjohnstonofficial "There goes the fear" would be the song that resembled your demo.

@@markjohnstonofficial "There goes the fear" would be the song I thought resembled your lo-fi riff. Great stuff 🙂
Why do you need a preamp when you got the Iridium in your chain?
Totally differences. The preamp smooths out some high frequencies in a way I really like and helps to push a little more gain out without cranking the amp and distorting the wet effects.
Is the Leslie effect only "lo fi"? It is my favorite effect of all time. Does the Synesthesia offer more variations of that than you demoed?
Please make a preset pack pleaaase
Only issue, very minor, is that the MIDI ports are on the front.
Generally agree, but it is the standard for gfi. I actually do like it on the Specular Tempus, less so here.
Awesome update for the Synesthesia, sounds soooo good. Love the stuff you do.
Just wondering where you got that dual mono to stereo cable that you're running from the spec tempus to the Iridium, could really use a cable like that in my rig.
Hit up Analog Endeavors on IG for that cable. He makes some great stuff.
EBS Flat patch makes a good tip ring breakout as well. Its called the EBS ICY-30
I like this pedal. But it all starts to sound the same. I wish you would stack with other effects like Fuzz, distortion, et.c, I don't know something really challenge the pedal. It all sounds like NPR queues and Tycho. It all reminds me of the NPR show called "This American Life." It's all like rainy day, grey skies sounds. It's hard to find any variety.
Wonderful news; a bunch of other people have made demos on this pedal and I’m sure some of them sound different than I do.
@@markjohnstonofficial Thank you. Have a nice day.
