  • Today's video sets the foundation for the HUGE and DISGUSTING clean up that my Dad and I are about to embark on this week. We also get some good news about the grant progressing.
As always your support and feedback is SO appreciated. The next few weeks of videos will have lots going on, and hopefully this will lead up to a lot of progress for the house and land over the Summer. Hearing your thoughts on things is always a lovely boost and motivation.
Morrigan's Cottage is a 200 year old traditional stone cottage set in the west of Ireland on just under 4 acres. Originally this house would have been used by the local farmers, rented from their British landlords. Dated back to at least the early 1800s, someone has been consistently living here and farming this land since then, up until about 4 years ago when the house was left vacant by the previous owners.

Oh Aisling I did warn you about the 12 week (at least) delay re grant approval. Its a huge pain in this country. Anyway, I'm loving the skip, I can tell you it's the first of many. If you are up for a "help out Morrigans Cottage" flash mob to come voluntary to help out you should put the word out. I'd be happy to help as I live in Dublin but have a house just outside Westport and know how hard it is to get things done on your own. Anyway, just a thought. Loving your solo progress 👍🏻 Thank you for another great upload 😊

I was really hoping it wouldn’t be so delayed but I’ve build a bridge and I’m getting over it and just letting it be 🥲 but we’ll get there right! Omg a clean mob would be amazing, it’ll be in Saturdays video but my dad and I had SUCH a hard time clearing out that dump pile it was horrific!! But still so much left to do! So I will deffo let you know if something like that would be done! Extra hands would be amazing also very fun to meet up I think!

There must be decades of rubbish buried/discarded on the land, I've seen other people on youtube who discover the same thing, disappointing, exhausting to remove it but one positive is that you're cleaning up for mother nature and the wildlife. Hi! Oh that’s so exciting you’re in a similar journey! I can’t imagine doing a derelict house or something worse than mine! Best of luck to you with it!
You should definitely try get the vacancy/derelict grant if your house qualifies, and there’s also the SEAI grants that can be used in conjunction as well. I haven’t gone down the seai grant route, but have applied for the vacancy grant. No real issues with it as of yet, but I’m just finding the process very slow. I applied back in may and still waiting in an inspection, but the delays are more specific to my county council, so your council might move a bit faster! Best of luck with the project keep me in the loop with it I’d love to know how you get on! And if you e any questions let me know!

@morrigans_cottage I am indeed. I inherited a farm with a very old limestone cottage that had branches as roof rafters 😄. However when I applied for the planning permission. I was told It is a protected structure and a national monument.🙄🫣 I recently got informed that someone living by me took a photo of it and entered it into the east cork camera group. Didn't it come second in the competition 😆 I didn't even know.
Anyway thank you for telling me. Seeing you so driven to get yourself to where you want to be has given me the push I need to get me going. Thank you for that.

@@tarabis3921 that’s really hard when it’s a protected structure, it does tie your hands on what you can do. There are other grants you can apply to as well, I’m not sure what they’re called but they’re the heritage grants for protected structures or protected famr houses etc. I know you can get a lot more money as you are tied to doing things a certain way!

Having only found your channel yesterday, I haven't seen everything yet, but I was wondering if you've heard of the "no lawns" trend? I've seen it on a reddit sub and they barely if at all, have any mowing to do AND they are super beautiful :) :) I've seen in the early vids that you love the flowers and such so I thought I'd throw it out there. Lots of them are clover cover which seems appropriate for your location :) It's very soft, doesn't require mowing, helps the bees and makes pretty little flowers. win win...win

Hi and welcome to the channel!! I have seen a few videos on clover lawns and it definitely interests me! At the moment the garden and rest of the land is very boggy so it all needs to be dug a bit and drains put in, but once that’s all done I’ll definitely be looking into it because it actually looks so nice! Thank you for the suggestion!
