Those transitions from model to reality, beautiful. Super interesting video Colin, the explanations and visuals were fantastic. I went to an MOD bunker in north London, hidden under a post office. It's disused as the membrane and concrete cracked, the water table floods the complex. All pipework, cables, ventilation and generators are rusted beyond repair from the damp. Be careful if you install the window in the car storage.
Those transitions between the scale model and the real house are incredible! I feel like the editing is often the unsung hero in these videos, and it's been especially tight in this series.
Colin, as a commercial builder, they make stone sealer that can be used on rocks, bricks, concrete, etc., for aesthetic effect (clear) as well as a solid moisture barrier. If you make your window room tight enough to hold back concrete then you should be able to seal that whole area off with stone sealer to nearly eliminate moisture… if you include ventilation from your garage.

Thank you so much for making a model for us! I was following along well enough by your descriptions alone, but had some questions, and this cleared them right up! This is such an epic project. Nobody else but you could have taken something like this on. You are not wrong in saying that this is the biggest DIY project on the internet! Idk about that. Sometimes its an absolute mental slog when you work and live in the same place. 😅 Especially with this amount of long-term hard work hes doing. Projects left unfinished feeling. Everywhere is left a mess.
Hi @colinfurze - Glad we could assist you with the Trackway! Everyone at eps can't wait to see the progress of the Secret Garage. We weren't about to stand by and let some bad weather and soft ground spoil the party! Cheers. Alex
Honestly some of the best content on UA-cam. Living in a 3 bed semi-detached house in the midlands myself, this is bringing to life so many cool ideas. When this build is complete I think it will be your finest work. Ps - if the window feature doesn’t work with the condensation, maybe have something inspired by back to the future as a feature wall / backdrop.
I agree, do something that doesn't even approach the risk of moisture ingress. A lot of people asking for the view port probably aren't aware just how rainy it gets there.
That scale model is excellent, I absolutely love it! You know you can't stop at just that now... You gotta 1:10 all your creations and stick them in it... It'd be an awesome piece to have on display in the finished garage!!
Honestly for a student in engineering like myself, these videos are very informative and take you through the whole process of making the secret garage. I know this will probably get lost somewhere in the comments but. Colin, thank you for keeping me motivated to stay in engineering!
Only Colin could make a sheet metal model, looks superb. Questions: Have you planned for water removal when the car is parked/driven off in the rain? What about car fumes when working on it? Does the turning circle actually need to be a circle or could it be a rectangle? Who did you blow at the council to be able to do all this? :)
Not sure what the laws are in the uk for building on your own land but here you can do basically anything you like on your own property as long as it meets building and safety regulations
@@rats2864it’s the same in the US btw, that guy just doesn’t know what he’s talking about. Even having a hot tub requires city approval. New shed? Also needs approval. Hard to do any renovations without it
It would be really cool if the car platform rotated 180 on the way down, if perhaps a bit difficult to do. It wouldn't even have to be circular if it stops rotating just before entering the ground space. You would also be nearer the door when you get out/in!
Hi Colin great video as always! THANKS SO MUCH for featuring our song on it, we're buzzing about it! Personally my long term band goals have been to play to busy crowds (more than 1 person), to feature on a Colin Furze Video and to feature in a episode of Scooby Doo (the most punk TV show on TV) so thanks for helping us check one of those off the list! You are awesome and we cant wait to see the next video 💪
The tunnel, the garage...they are both truely awesome to watch as they become reality...but the model is the icing on the cake! The same attention to detail is beautiful!
You could fill the entire rock wall side with resin 😅 might not make a perfect seal against the rock face over time though which could get moss or dirt or something growing on it
Have you considered the use of post/pre tensioned reinforced concrete for the top slab? Considering the flexural stresses on the concrete with cars parking on it building it like a parking garage doesn't seem like the worst idea. I am so glad that you had a geotechnical engineer come out to the site and take a look at what you're doing here. They provide seriously valuable information when constructing anything. I worked as a engineering technician for 10 years so this project is my favorite you've done so far because I spent so much time checking soil strength and inspecting foundation pours everything here is super familiar for me. You've done a fantastic job explaining everything by the way I'm sure loads of people are getting exposed to stuff they may never have otherwise and maybe you've even created a few geotechnical engineers with this project. Love the channel and the work you've been doing and I look forward to watching that DeLorean pop out of the ground.
Hi Colin. Alternative for your rock window is to take high quality photos before you enclose it and put up a few large tv screens. You can add a metal frame etc. then you can swap out the images for what ever you what to brighten things up. Keep up the grind. Good work.
i think it should be way thicker rebar. i have built pits in the ground for large presses and the walls are usually 1 foot thick with a 5/8 rebar mesh every foot in each direction.
seriously love this way of explaining it. makes you not have to stop and talk a load while working, and gives us a not tired wet and annoyed colin to explain.
Hello Colin just a thought on the rock wall...Take a mould of the wall to remain exposed rock and recreate the stone colouring on the full size model. Replace the 'window view to a rock wall' with a steel plate alcove then fit the model into the alcove. Get a modelmaker / artist to paint the rock wall model to mimic the original and light it accordingly ?
Brilliantly done Colin! Old school model was perfect for explaining what is undoubtedly a very complex project. Hope Mrs Furze is happy! She must be a saint! Best channel on UA-cam!
The use of the model really helps to make this all make sense. Ref the glass window to the rock. I think you may end up covering it over as seems like a real challenge to keep it clean and safe.
About the rock wall, great idea! Could you spray some sort of clear water sealant on the portion of rock exposed? I can also see great lighting opportunities there inside the window allowing the rocks to cast shadows. Bloody amazing work you do mate! Mad respect! 🫡
This video is brilliant, with the model and edting cuts I love it. Can see why its taken a while to get this one out but its great we have updates on the 2nd channel, cheers Colin
Credit where it's due: this kind of large scale subterranean construction project is far beyond what any other youtuber has done from what I've seen and it's also just so stupidly cool. My inner child is very happy to experience this vicariously through your videos. Underground passages and hidden rooms are just so damn cool.
Ok hear me out, what if you lean into the condensation? So do a mix of exposed rock face, with plants. So you could have a living wall and real exposed rock in your underground room So it'll still feel fresh and bright even underground
I may be entirely wrong, but isn't it impossible for any plant to live underground, with no sunlight or fertile soil? Or do you mean building like a uv mantained terrarium?
I'd be worried about the roots causing cracks and subsidence from them, they can and will break structural integrity, you see trees and plants growing into hard rock and concrete all the time
Colin. Use a cylindrical fan behind the window to blow across the glass. I used this when I was a bar tender after the glass doors on the beer cabinet kept condensating up, it worked a treat.
I had this same idea. A fan across the window, and could also ventilate that area to the surface to help keep the moisture down. Or go the other route and turn it into an aquarium or terrarium with the raw rock wall as the background (can use a clear pond shield epoxy to seal the rock wall).

Nice to see a youtuber doing things properly and engaging an engineer. All that reinforcing looks really good.
Agreed (working as a safety magager in a big listed construction company)
That model is one of the coolest things I have seen on UA-cam. Seamlessly transitioning back and forth was impressive and a great way to explain.
Thank you so much for making a model for us! I was following along well enough by your descriptions alone, but had some questions, and this cleared them right up! This is such an epic project. Nobody else but you could have taken something like this on. You are not wrong in saying that this is the biggest DIY project on the internet! Here's hoping for better weather and easy construction going forward!
I love this whole series. Also, the ways you promote the sponsors always gets me to want to actually use them. Keep on digging!! Much love from Mississippi, USA.
Imagine renovating your home being your paid job. You live a blessed life Colin. 🙏❤️
Idk about that. Sometimes its an absolute mental slog when you work and live in the same place. 😅 Especially with this amount of long-term hard work hes doing. Projects left unfinished feeling. Everywhere is left a mess.
I don't know. Does he really live in that house or does he just use it for his YT projects?
@@Jagknorr you seen this man's views? he has a lot more incentive to finish his projects than some regular job. dude is living the dream
Looks like fun! Your poor family must be so tired of the dirt though.
@@JagknorrThis is his youtube house. He lives elsewhere.
Colin the model is super cool. The project is off the charts. Your bride she is a keeper. Thanks for sharing the journey.
That model needs to go into a museum! With video clips next to it! It's a masterpiece!
Whoever buys Collins house in the next 80 - 90 years can rebuild the garage bit to a museum with that model in it.
@@SMGJohn And then build a model within the model, and repeat, and repeat until we end up with a nanoscale model!😂
Gotta get Night Shift to paint it,
Maybe he'll do an extension of the model to include the entire tunnel system with shop and bunker..🤞
It's the Simpson house just mirrored. he should definitely build the half-octagon white balcony there!!
Mr Furze just take a high definition picture of the rock wall and then you put a full size mural in later. Love your channel.
Make a mold impression and cast a concrete copy of the lime rock wall for inside the nice dry metal room. Paint for effect.
ooh! That's genius!
I agree, do something that doesn't even approach the risk of moisture ingress. A lot of people asking for the view port probably aren't aware just how rainy it gets there.
Or just save some of the limestone to build a decorative (mock) dry stacked wall on the inside.
Great idea! 👍
Yours appeared as the 9th comment from the top for me.

You should put FOG emitters above ground and make them start before it comes out, and once they stop, the car will be there. Like a magic trick.
Only Colin could make a sheet metal model, looks superb.
Questions:
Have you planned for water removal when the car is parked/driven off in the rain?
What about car fumes when working on it?
Does the turning circle actually need to be a circle or could it be a rectangle?
Who did you blow at the council to be able to do all this? :)
Not sure what the laws are in the uk for building on your own land but here you can do basically anything you like on your own property as long as it meets building and safety regulations
The answer to every question is: "YES!"
@@nanaki-seto You need planning permission to do just about anything in the UK so fuck knows how he managed it
@@rats2864exactly bro, I’ve worked at jobs where the owners can’t get planning for a patio let alone an underground deloreon garage 🤣
@@rats2864it’s the same in the US btw, that guy just doesn’t know what he’s talking about. Even having a hot tub requires city approval. New shed? Also needs approval. Hard to do any renovations without it
Transition between model and real footage is so great. Each matching scene looks so good😊
It would be really cool if the car platform rotated 180 on the way down, if perhaps a bit difficult to do.
Flashback to those skateboarding trips back in the day. Awesome!!
Only in the UK! Love it. That neighbour of yours is a hero for letting you complete your project. 👍
He 100% owns the house next door.
@@awesomeoberks at this point it wouldn't surprise me if he built it too.
the neighbouring house looks empty he definitely owns it and by the looks of it he doesn't live in his house anymore
Good work.
As a civil engineer I gotta say I'm impressed with the rebar work. You did it right mate!
i think it should be way thicker rebar. i have built pits in the ground for large presses and the walls are usually 1 foot thick with a 5/8 rebar mesh every foot in each direction.
building regs are differrent in the uk

"Biggest DIY project on the internet" is an understatement
I knew someone else was thinking this 😂 biggest diy project = every man’s dream
I'm not so sure. There are some pretty huge projects on YT. Might depend on what definition of 'Biggest' and 'DIY' we're using.
It's not really DIY when you bring in the tractors and cement trucks. lol.. But I get that he has poured a lot of work into this.
How much is that gonna cost? Over a million usd or under?
@@calhollihe did it himself so it is diy😅
Hello Colin just a thought on the rock wall...Take a mould of the wall to remain exposed rock and recreate the stone colouring on the full size model. Replace the 'window view to a rock wall' with a steel plate alcove then fit the model into the alcove. Get a modelmaker / artist to paint the rock wall model to mimic the original and light it accordingly ?
Brilliantly done Colin! Old school model was perfect for explaining what is undoubtedly a very complex project. Hope Mrs Furze is happy! She must be a saint! Best channel on UA-cam!
2:50 THAT TRANSITION!!
FRRRR. coolest and best transition ive seen in my life, actually blew my mind, i did not expect that
Agreed… so clever
I missed the first few seconds of dialog there from marveling at how perfectly it lined up.
That must have taken quite a bit of work to have the angles match up between the two views!
Absolutely amazing! "Best thing to happen to a three bed semi" got me smiling. I think we can all agree that it is.
Love the perfect to scale model and in-depth explanations! Best of luck with the next section, I'll be here watching!
"We can all agree that that is gonna be the best thing ever to happen to a 3-bed semi-detached."
Couldn't put it any better! Love the model.
The use of the model really helps to make this all make sense.
Ref the glass window to the rock. I think you may end up covering it over as seems like a real challenge to keep it clean and safe.
Can we all just recognize how entertaining and well done that sponsor ad was?
About the rock wall, great idea! Could you spray some sort of clear water sealant on the portion of rock exposed? I can also see great lighting opportunities there inside the window allowing the rocks to cast shadows.
Bloody amazing work you do mate!
Mad respect! 🫡
This video is brilliant, with the model and edting cuts I love it. Can see why its taken a while to get this one out but its great we have updates on the 2nd channel, cheers Colin
The model helped explain everything. This project is the natural thing to do. It is also just plain epic.
The transitions between model and reality were insanely smooth
Credit where it's due: this kind of large scale subterranean construction project is far beyond what any other youtuber has done from what I've seen and it's also just so stupidly cool. My inner child is very happy to experience this vicariously through your videos. Underground passages and hidden rooms are just so damn cool.
Ok hear me out, what if you lean into the condensation? So do a mix of exposed rock face, with plants. So you could have a living wall and real exposed rock in your underground room So it'll still feel fresh and bright even underground
thought emporium got the good thoughts out here
An underground living wall is a dope idea
This, yes.
I may be entirely wrong, but isn't it impossible for any plant to live underground, with no sunlight or fertile soil?
Or do you mean building like a uv mantained terrarium?
I'd be worried about the roots causing cracks and subsidence from them, they can and will break structural integrity, you see trees and plants growing into hard rock and concrete all the time
The visual model is extremely cool! Thank you for taking the time to make it so accurate AND look so clean
That model is such a lifesaver. As somebody who is really not used to building and construction it brings everything in perspective so well.
Ever think about how much this adds to the property value
15:01 You said it!
That's the best thing anyone's said on UA-cam so far this year.
Bravo mate!
Every month or so I remember this channel exists, and your projects grow more insane. Living the dream, man.
Colin. Use a cylindrical fan behind the window to blow across the glass. I used this when I was a bar tender after the glass doors on the beer cabinet kept condensating up, it worked a treat.
I had this same idea. A fan across the window, and could also ventilate that area to the surface to help keep the moisture down.
Or go the other route and turn it into an aquarium or terrarium with the raw rock wall as the background (can use a clear pond shield epoxy to seal the rock wall).
love the model. creepily accurate when you went back and forth
The effort that went into just this model is incredible. Your video transitionings are insane. You are an idol. You are an artist. You are a genius. you are a maniac.
Thanks for making the miniature model. Helps a lot to understand how everything ties together! Looking forward to part 4 :D
That model is absolutely awesome!
Yeah, might be retro, but it's:
-correctly scaled
-very, very easy to understand / helping to understand what you're explaining
-looking awesome
So thank you for the effort of making and showing us that cute thing, aside from the WHOLE PROJECT that's ALSO AWESOME!
