I'm a total beginner at this. I'm in the fortunate position where I can receive certain items at a very very low cost. I don't know if I should try to sell to people who intend selling it themselves or try to sell it myself and see how it goes. The cheapest items I can get are things like gorilla glue and other good brands. Also command items for hanging pictures. And other things of that type but other items are available. Please can anyone advise me of my best move. Or if anyone is interested in buying cheap items. Thanks

As a buyer, I prefer the buy it now option. I used to sell stuff in the past and I did buy it now mostly. It was handmade jewelry for Christmas and made about 5K. I did do some auction’s on stuff that I didn’t care about and was very surprised when I got over $50 for an old printer ink cartridge that was still new in the packaging.
So I’m not a new seller (I started selling in 2006) however I haven’t been diligent lately. I owned a consignment shop in 2010 and when I closed it...I had A TON of items left. My best friend asked me what I was going to do with it. I told her I’m going to list everything on eBay for 0.99 each. She said “you are going to make a killing!” Well I let my emotions get the best of me and I didn’t do that. So now my house is over run with stuff and I hate it. So last night I broke down what I need to list daily/weekly into doable size pieces. I ended all I had currently listed and relisted all but my painted pieces for $1. I have 40 active listings and 6 already have bids after just 13 hours!!! I’m grateful I found your video which reignited me. I’m looking forward to decluttering and being coming financially free!

As a descent volume buyer on Ebay, Honest Finance is correct on many things he mentions. I prefer to buy without bidding. I don't have time to get my bid in, in the last minute as most buyers do. However he is giving great advice and tips on how to stretch your dollar, so stop worrying about how many blinks are in the video. I am taking away a boat load of advice from this gentleman and appreciate that he even shares his advice. So - THANK YOU !!!!
I have opened youtube to watch fail compilations but I don't know why I clicked this video and now I decided to sell stuff on ebay. If I ever had a lecturer like you, I would listen to him for hours and hours without loosing any attention. well, hello ebay
I'm going to be honest, I've avoided clicking these videos because the thumbnail is way too much like those over the top flipper lifestyle guys on UA-cam. BUT I was pleasantly suprised! I enjoyed this video a lot. It's informative and very chill. I was expecting some guy to be way too high energy and full of fluff. Great video, if the rest are as genuine as this one I'll subscribe.
Prefer to BUY IT NOW! Seen way to many people gets shortchanged on nice items that got little bids and had to sell way below value! On PCs, higher priced items, then an Auction can prove time worthy!
I agree, especially if it's not a super popular item. For instance I have my old Mercedes radio. It takes time for someone to buy it. I'd rather lose the 10$ by undercutting the other radio sellers and do the buy it now. I don't want to sit on it for 6 months.
I have been selling as a hobby a little over a year but didn’t work at it more until the past few months. I do pretty much everything you mentioned here. I love .99 cent auctions it freaks most sellers out because there’s risk. My 60 day totals were over $1500 gross last week. I have 144 reviews now and 100% positive and it’s been so worth it to print off a note like you mentioned at the end. This by no means is anything more than a hobby and to fuel my own love to thrift but eventually I want to actually get into higher ticket items and make some extra cash even if only $500 net a month. That would fund a vacation in one year. I love selling on eBay and it’s been self taught learning from mistakes and watching UA-cam videos like these. Thanks for sharing!
@@noviceboards4451 well like he said do your research. Items you sell is often a matter of luck. Do your research and try to corner the market. The item you sell should be the best deal at the best price. Good luck!
I was thinking about selling a phone on ebay, but after watching this I can't be bothered. Excellent presentation though (and I gave it a like), concise and full of factual info without wasting my time telling me where you're from, what the weather's like and how good the coffee tastes. Thanks.
Man.. I miss those days. The deals to be found were incredible!. If your in northern midwest; check out k-bid. Awesome auction site. I just got an almost brand new riding lawn mower for 100 bucks! Just cuz the battery was dead on it. 😆
Hi! I'm new to selling on Ebay and I really enjoyed your video. I love how you weren't begging us to subscribe or thumbs up. You were very informative, I'm going to use your advice, btw I did thumbs up and subscribe. I look forward to watching and learning more.
@TheRealartist1963 Don't know if you still follow this comment and or get replies still. I hope you get this "thanks", for the headaches you probably saved me. I was going to sell some (a lot of) collectibles on ebay, now I don't think I will. I also was wondering if you found another way to sell. Thanks again.
I'm an Ebay seller and have been for YEARS... There's quite a bit of feedback here about using the .99 or $1.00 starting bid. My advice is, only do it if you are building up your reputation as a new seller. Also, sell stuff that you really don't care if you get a dollar for if that's the only bid. Include a feedback note like he said. Ebay rewards you with free insert fees when you reach a certain level of sales, regardless of the price the item sold. However, if it's a "hot" item, and you see recent sales for the item in the SOLD/COMPLETE research column, then go for it with your fingers crossed. You can also ask a friend to bid it up to your bottom line, and then square the sale away with the friend. But don't do that too often.
@@tadams7447 EBay gives you x amount of free insert fees, which is their charge to list an item to sell. I’m not sure what it costs now. They increase the amount of free inserts as you sell more things. I’m up to 250. They might give you 50 if you are new. Insert fees are a small amount. Like maybe 20 cents. They won’t charge you the insert fee until you list over 50 items. They also take commission when the items Sells, but not if it doesn’t.
Jason: This is the first video I'm watching of yours and I can't leave this page without telling you a few things that stood out to me. You come across to me as a pretty smart and attractive dude who knows what he's doing. In my opinion, your eyebrows are really nice (lol,) your hair is clean cut, and you speak really well. I love your ability to edit yourself and speak concisely. The tone of your voice and pace in which you speak is really nicely too. I look forward to seeing the other content you have out here... It makes so much sense after you say it!
Great video! Very informative. You answered all the main questions I had about selling on eBay, and all without lame and distracting background music and long intros. Thank you!
I've been selling on eBay for over 10 years. I do almost everything you suggest. I also sell things from old steamer trunk [which buyer had me only bubble wrap and he had it shipped on Grey Hound bus! I sold as 'buyer arranges and pays shipping]] jewelry, clothes, Well cap/seals [got for $1 at yard sale, sold for $25 each, one guy in PR bought them all, shipped in large flat rate box] shoes [they can be heavier than you think and anything over 16 oz will cost a lot more to ship] so some things I include shipping on [nothing is FREE I HATE the term 'free shipping' more correctly it's 'shipping included' ] others I charge as you advise in this vid. A couple suggestions: say as little about the item as possible that would be opinion. List factual info and as much as possible. For instance, I never say 'comfortable shoes' b/c the buyer may not think they are and I kind of promised they were so with eBay guarantee they could return it. I prefer to give all factual detail I can, as many photos as possible to get all angles, natural light or indoor lighting and often both if it's gemstone. Make sure you create a shadow box or angle your camera so you don't have shadows on your items. NO FLASH! If I sell a ring I don't put it on my finger, instead I hold it to show size, in a display box and alone on contrasting background. Use a penny to show size of jewelry, a tape measure next to clothes, item on scale to show weight. I learned that if I say it's 24" length and buyer says it's 24.5" they can return it because my description was off. I don't accept returns for buyer's remorse so be as factual as possible, letting the tape, scale and penny speak for themselves is best. I had a buyer for a loose Zircon gemstone who contacted me saying I should have said how small it was. This when I had it pictured beside a penny, had photo of it on scale in grams and ozs and mm dimensions from GIA cert! He opened a case to return it and eBay settled in my favor because I had plenty of photos and documentation. I have 100% 5* feedback and LOVE when a buyer tells me how thrilled they are!! Selling is fun, not just making $$. You can make someone's day happier and that's a good feeling :)
Honest Finance, I "truly" appreciate you taking the time to do this video. I'm 68 and going through some rough medical problems that restrict my movement. I wish I had a bankroll full of money, but I don't. I'd simply appreciate knowing if the information you provide here (2018 information) is still relevant to use in 2020. I ask this because I know how fast things change. Thanks!!
FWIW, bicycle shops are a great source of large boxes made from quality cardboard (they typically have a huge skip full of them and are happy to give away). Card can then be cut down for awkward/large items.
I've been selling on eBay for nearly 20 years. Mostly books and at a fixed price. I'm going to give the dollar try when I list again. Thanks for the info!
Ive been selling on ebay for six months now and have been very successful. I definitely agree with you on the shipping situation. You have know idea on where the item will go but you learn as you go. I also type up a receipt to put into the box and sign it with my signature and say thank you.
You might want to mention to keep the descriptions simple. To many people ramble on trying to hype the product and you loose customers. Auction vs fixed pricing. There are some products that should be done on fixed pricing because only a select group of people buy X item. Ex: Lenox. I lost a lot of money doing auctions on lenox. I now only post them with fixed pricing. Sales are much higher. Hallmark: research expensive items and batch all the little stuff. Common sense here but you decrease refunds if you pack breakable items in a box that has space for packing material to pad it from being banged around and possibly broken. Sometimes a little bit bigger box is better. Excellent video!
Thank you Jason, I just watched your video (28 June 2020). I found it was simplified to grasp the basics and informative. I felt overwhelmed to start selling on eBay. I want to sell pre-owned jewellery and clothes to make a little income.
I know it's been just over a year since you made this video, but thank you for making it. I have been thinking of selling some items on Ebay recently and this video is really helpful in what to do.
Really appreciated your advice on getting started on eBay. Little nervous about doing business on eBay, your video is very helpful Thank you. from Missouri
Just wanna thank you for this video I’ve been wanting to sell on eBay for over ten years just so nervous to start I think I’m gonna try your video was extremely helpful thank you god Bless
Thank you for your advice! I’m new eBay reseller and I’m learning a lot and I even start making videos so I can get advice from other eBay sellers! Once again excellent video thank you!
I've never sold on Ebay. Watching your video has relieved some of the fear of getting started for me. Very informative, with good insights and great tips, presented clearly and concisely. Thank you.
This seems to be one of the BEST eBay video how-to's I've ever seen! INCREDIBLY HIGH VALUE CONTENT! and OVER-DELIVERY! Excellent. Thanks. I subbed, hit the bell and like.
I am just getting started and appreciate your frankness. I have quite a number of die cast model cars in 1/18 scale that had been collected by my late husband. They are in good condition; some are in original boxes and others have display cases.
One important detail you didn't mention is to ensure you scan the UPC code for DVD's and video games and the ISBN number for books as listings that have this code included in the item specifics get priority over listings that don't have it scanned in, so one way to ensure your listings get priority over other listings in make sure you have the UPC or ISBN code included
This is an EXCELLENT lecture. You are a great help. I've watched several videos, most of them by jokers that can't stay on topic or finish their thoughts and take 3 times as long to inadequately explain that which you made coherent and concise. Thank you a bunch.
I make my own boxes. The local box store sells 4' by 8' sheets of cardboard for about $5. I made a spreadsheet where I plug in the width, height and depth of the item and it gives me the coordinates of the folds.
Honestly, just start w your cheaper items first so you don’t do anything wrong. Then make sure to hold about 10% of your earnings in your PayPal account u til Ebay invoices you (they usually do it about a month later)
Thank you!! This was very helpful and I appreciate that you took time to make this to help beginners, like me!! It can be a confusing arena if you want to sell miscellaneous items without losing money (for the most part). Some of this is common sense but some of it I hadn’t thought of that will help me with the bigger ticket items. Again, thank you for your time!!!
Thanks for the the awesome advice. My mother passed away this pasted December. She has so many nice clothes , many with the tags. She had great taste and all her stuff is name brand. She had a shopping problem and spent a ridiculous amount of money on her clothes, shoes etc.I’ve finally decided to start packing up her room and thought “instead of donating to the Salvation Army ( I hope this doesn’t offend anybody but my local Salvation Army charges so much for used clothing that are donated to them. You can literally go to TJ Maxx or Ross and buy brand new stuff for cheaper than the Salvation Army charges for used items and it really pisses me off but that rant is for another channel lol)why not try to sell some stuff on eBay especially since I’m out of work right now because of the coronavirus. You brought up some very good ideas I didn’t even think about. I will post next Sunday and let you know what happen. I’m a little bit nervous about starting a bid out at one dollar but I’m a risk taker and I’ll try anything once😜😜
I totally agree with you on the salvation army thing like we have one here and it's the same thing here I can't believe even the thrift stores I can't believe the prices the stuff is donated why are they charging thousands of dollars for something that you can buy at the same price or cheaper at the store I don't understand it it's all donated stuff
Regarding shipping fees. I've listed BIN sales with both "free" shipping and with a postage fee and also found no difference within the volume of items sold using free shipping ... and let's face it, is it really free as most buyers simply add it to the cost of the item being sold. My only comment is that if someone uses the filter for "Free Shipping", then any auctions with a shipping fee are not displayed and that could result in a possible sales loss.
You can often get a slightly higher sale price on Amazon vs. eBay. That being said, it's typically easier from my experiences to sell used on eBay than Amazon because people expect to buy more used there vs. Amazon where people go for new things.
Hey Jason, thanks so much for your video. I just came across it as Im wanting to sell some items for the holidays. really appreciate your info. gave me a lot to consider.
I’ve never sold on eBay but what happens if something doesn’t sell? Is there a time limit? I have a few season DVDs to sell (The Facts of Life, The New Adventures of Old Christine) I’d bundle the same show DVDs together.
I have a cowboy helmet signed by Jerry Jones and Jason Garrett but they didn't date it. It was signed the season before Jason Witten made history. I think it was the game season of 2016.
My grandma sold a napkin signed by Walt Disney, but she had it authenticated before she sold it . You should do the same. I’m not sure how to do it , but I’m sure you can look it up
No, no, nooooo - now I won't be able to pick up so many bargains from crappy listers. Actually all good advice. Making things easy for the buyer will get sales and a good reputation. One problem I have occasionally is sellers who package things so securely they can't be unboxed without damaging the item. Again, just consider the buyer's viewpoint.

Glad it helped. I had to learn the hard way too
I want to get into selling on eBay, and I was wondering what kinds of items work best for you.
@@noviceboards4451 well like he said do your research. Items you sell is often a matter of luck. Do your research and try to corner the market. The item you sell should be the best deal at the best price. Good luck!
@@jeffkwak2190 im gonna try it as a side hustle and hopefully it can replace my pt job while i go to school!

That's so true tho
I don't ever like youtube videos. For some reason, I trust and like this guy!
Hey thanks :)
I was thinking about selling a phone on ebay, but after watching this I can't be bothered. Excellent presentation though (and I gave it a like), concise and full of factual info without wasting my time telling me where you're from, what the weather's like and how good the coffee tastes. Thanks.
I have been on eBay since 1999, and still found your video VERY helpful!!!! Thank you!!!! :)
That’s great to hear that from you. I’m glad it helped some
Lol
1999?

Welcome to the channel! It’s mostly personal finance videos and reviews, so I apologize if you’re only looking for ebay videos (but I do have a few)
Let me know how your selling goes. Everybody’s gotta start at the beginning :)
@TheRealartist1963 so where do you sell now?
Paypal, it's money from buyer bank that goes to your bank account, or that what i think, i watching this because i wanna sell on ebay for first time
@TheRealartist1963 Don't know if you still follow this comment and or get replies still.
What's an "insert fee?"
They also take commission when the items
Sells, but not if it doesn’t.
Thank you!
Less than 2 mins and 40 secs and I am already thoroughly enjoying this video. Extremely informative. ❤️
Thanks!!
Don’t comment till it’s done ok?
I got a 4 minute ad about selling on eBay and what I should sell.
I didn't realise it was an ad until it ended.

When you see an item, like a laptop, do eBay pack the laptop or do we have to do all the packaging stuff?
Good advice about measurements...every measurement I use I include the word "approximate"
Thanks!!
Not much has changed in two years. The fees might be a little worse, but overall Ebay works the same way
@@HonestFinance Thank you for taking the time to reply. I appreciate it.
FWIW, bicycle shops are a great source of large boxes made from quality cardboard (they typically have a huge skip full of them and are happy to give away). Card can then be cut down for awkward/large items.
That’s a great idea. Thank you
You’re voice is actually so calming , like I could fall asleep to this 😂😂
I've been selling on eBay for nearly 20 years. Mostly books and at a fixed price. I'm going to give the dollar try when I list again. Thanks for the info!
Hi Linda, I’m about to selling on eBay for the first time. How did the dollar bus turn out for u?
Just began selling on eBay 2 months ago your tips are so helpful thanks
You’re welcome :)
Ive been selling on ebay for six months now and have been very successful. I definitely agree with you on the shipping situation. You have know idea on where the item will go but you learn as you go. I also type up a receipt to put into the box and sign it with my signature and say thank you.
Thanks for the great insights
How much money have you made?
Great points. Thank you
Thank you Jason, I just watched your video (28 June 2020). I found it was simplified to grasp the basics and informative. I felt overwhelmed to start selling on eBay. I want to sell pre-owned jewellery and clothes to make a little income.

I am just getting started and appreciate your frankness. I have quite a number of die cast model cars in 1/18 scale that had been collected by my late husband. They are in good condition; some are in original boxes and others have display cases.
Good luck!! It’s really not hard to start
I am in S.L.C., Ut. as well! I wish that you would do more "how to ebay" for beginners. You are a great speaker.:)
Great idea!!
You didn’t confuse me like other tutorial videos out there. Lol! Simple, easy to follow and very informative. Thank you!
Thank you very much!
I’m just getting started too. I have a couple hundred items to list and I want to do it right!
What video do you recommend next?
Honestly, just start w your cheaper items first so you don’t do anything wrong. Then make sure to hold about 10% of your earnings in your PayPal account u til Ebay invoices you (they usually do it about a month later)
This video really helped. I’m just starting selling on eBay. Mainly gonna be selling Blu rays that I had when I was younger
Very cool Robert, how has that reseling been?
Quick and to the point without rambling on and on. I wish all how to Videos were like this
Thanks. I always try to get to the point quickly
Now I'm convinced I can do this! Simple, clear, and straight to the point... thank you!

You are so welcome!!
Our community group enjoyed watching your video and talking about how we might use eBay
Ya girl had to take some notes!! Thank you!!
I like how he asks you to pay attention.
When you sell. Be sure to save 10% for the eBay fees
Very true. They invoice your account a month later
Yeah, I learnt what the hard way... Big losses the first month. Now i usually take my buying price+20%+profit
Best advice on UA-cam for selling stuff eBay, its very clear and concise. Thx!
Thank you!!
This was great for someone starting new. Hope you put out more content.
Omg thank you I’m new to selling on eBay and now I feel like a pro
You’re welcome! The info should help

Good point. I’ve never thought about happening
Guys we should be thanking him instead of making fun of him because he doesn't blink.
THANKS

As an Ebay buyer I found this incredibly informative. 13% in fees? That's insane!
Ya they’re basically about 13% on average

if u ask him to crouch over ur face for sure he'll oblige.. where do you live?
Thank you!!! Could you please compare pros and cons of selling on Ebay vs Amazon? Subbed and thanks again.
You can often get a slightly higher sale price on Amazon vs. eBay. That being said, it's typically easier from my experiences to sell used on eBay than Amazon because people expect to buy more used there vs. Amazon where people go for new things.
Thanks for taking the time to do this very informative video. The way you talk its very easy to understand. Thanks Again !

I’ve never sold on eBay but what happens if something doesn’t sell? Is there a time limit? I have a few season DVDs to sell (The Facts of Life, The New Adventures of Old Christine) I’d bundle the same show DVDs together.
If it doesn’t sell. You just re-list an auction

Batching helps tremendously :)
