As an infj who felt like an alien, this test helped me understand I'm ok, saved me really. As a hiring tool...discriminatory.
SAME HERE
Same! As an INFP, the test really helped me on my self-actualization journey, but there’s this stereotype that we’re incompatible with predominantly SJ workspaces (or the world at large) so it’s hard not to be disappointed in its application. And let’s not even begin with the whole “Sensors and Feelers are stupid” arguments...
YESSSS
The Myers-Briggs Type Indicator is no more valuable than a horoscope.
Every individual at some point falls in all 16 "unique" categories which is why everyone feels the assessment results are accurate.
It's like a horoscope. It seems accurate because the participant is clouded by confirmation bias.
@@tydecker694 much more reliable than a horoscope. Research.
Not gonna lie this actually could work as the plot for the Persona 6 game. Unmask the manipulation of personality test, reveal your true self..
Huh, well how about that.
As the trailer says : "It is useful for individual people on journeys of self-discovery, but when they're used to make decisions by other people, affecting somebody's life, they become dangerous tools." Myers and Briggs never said otherwise.
And Jung would be rolling around in his grave if this behavior is ever linked to him lol
that is if we assume that employers are God..
if we work on the premise that we already know that big business works against the public good and needs to be made redundant - then the details of how they choose their employees is not that scary.. maybe they are just weeding out all of the non-compliant people - which are hopefully the same people best equipped to set up their own businesses and more effectively compete with them.. all part of a greater evolution..
if only the world of personality testing was this exciting! Some elevator music and a temperamental HR ‘professional’ talking to us in a condescending tone would have been more believable.
As someone with a personality disorder and several neurodivergent conditions, I can confirm that personality tests literally lower the chances of me getting hired, and contribute to me getting treated badly. They are shallow, further marginalize “weird” groups, and neurotypical society’s obsession with them is extremely harmful
Omg that's my boy FJ
Yes thats my friend and its him in the early beginning of his channel and current...still cute🤗
That's our frisky pony!
I got scared for a second, thinking it would be a Persona live action adaptation or something😂

Seems a bit intense
Haha I thought the same thing. If its true, its definitely concerning, but this trailer made it seem like the illuminati LOL
Yeah that went a little too hard
That's a great Shin Megami Tensei adaptation right there lol
Pfff
really? well if it doesn't have Futaba I'm gonna be angy
"No don't say it!"
"YOU'RE NOT ME!!!"
As an INTJ black male, I’m disturbed by these findings & the eugenics ideology of the creator. There is a place for personality type awareness in society, but as usual, in the hands of a racist, any tool can be used for evil.
We are not really sure that Isabelle was really racist as the girl says in the movie. She just found half the truth and she interprets it her own way. The thing is... the Test should not be taken seriously by anybody or any company.
Get woke son. You are you. You are NOT letters.
Was anyone else completely Blown Away by how insanely intelligent Lydia the disability activist was?! Not only intelligent but incredibly articulate and bluntly tells it how it is! I was SO impressed by her! This is a great doc. I also want to say how sad I was to learn that Kyle had passed away.. my sincere condolences to his family, he was clearly an amazing human being!

Some people are always looking for a shortcut to everything. Relationships don't benefit from being convenient. How do you get to know a person through a test? Just messing with minds all the time.
They're not meant to get to "know" a person, whatever that means. The big five personality model has been nicknamed the " psychology of the stranger" because it's only meant to describe broad level traits
Well said. People shouldn't give a fuck about those damn uselsess tests.
I have literally got so many different personality types from Myers Briggs I can’t even with it. They only thing I am consistently is intuitive.
which one are you taking cause 16 personalities isn’t entirely accurate. it types on letters not cognitive functions. i’d recommend keys2cognition. you can also evaluate yourself from researching and studying more on cognitive functions.
Learn about cognitive function mate
I see a few fellow psychologists have already commented. As a licensed psychologist myself, and one who happens to teach a graduate-level course on personality testing, I would likewise caution that this doc is about a specific type of test for a specific purpose. It is not about the larger field of personality testing research or administration. While the issues brought up in this film are alarming and need to be addressed, I worry viewers will generalize this information, leading to public misconception and mistrust in more valid and reliable testing practices (the MBTI is not well-accepted among the professional psychology community). As someone below already mentioned, many personality tests are psychometrically sound and show (on the whole) very little bias when used properly (according to numerous research studies). I encourage anyone watching to do so with the understanding that the term "personality test" is used rather narrowly.
@@vittoriobollo3408 To reiterate, I agree that the uses of the particular tests highlighted in this documentary are wrong and inappropriate. And again, most psychologists do not consider the Myers-Briggs to be a true assessment of personality functioning, nor would they rely on one test to make any concrete determinations about an individual. The rest of your commentary is simply incorrect and uninformed.
@@ashleybatastini9408, do you know anything about or have any opinions on StrengthsFinder? My company has started using it and it looks like a combination of pseudoscience and not-so-cold cold reading to me. My employer is SO sold on it, but I get the impression that actual psychologists would laugh it out of a building.
@@jasonq8144 I'm not very familiar with it, but I also don't specialize in vocational career assessment (this is a whole subfield in psychology!). I noticed the website includes a published meta-analysis (which is usually a high-quality form of research); however, it's a report disseminated by the publishing company. I did a quick search on my university library and found some studies that used it (e.g., one to predict success in a pharmacy doctoral program). Sometimes what makes a test "good" or not is more about how it's being used than the test itself (though sometimes the test can be the problem). Also, you probably wouldn't want to use this assessment (or any assessment) to make a serious decision in isolation of other types of information about a person. For example, your boss probably shouldn't use this test to decide who gets hired and who doesn't, or who gets promoted and who doesn't, etc. But, perhaps knowing something about your strengths might help decide which tasks/projects you might be interested in.
I agree completely with this: "I worry viewers will generalize this information, leading to public misconception and mistrust in more valid and reliable testing practices (the MBTI is not well-accepted among the professional psychology community)." But, honestly, people have done, and will do, this exact thing, just as they have done with countless other things so far. I think it's going to happen one way or another, unfortunately. Once narratives are pushed by "trusted" sources, then a very specific partition of the population will do the same.
@@ashleybatastini9408 You look literally 26! You're no Grad professor. 😕
coming up next time...... "which kardashian are you? Take the test and find out"
HBO already covered this in Westworld Season 3.
Next week on HBO: 'Horoscope' a billion dollar business classifying humans and segregating people with no sign of slowing down.
LOL! Right!
Shhh, the blue haired, upper class girl (she/they) won't like that opinion
MB assessments have the same scientific credibility as a horoscope. They're strictly for entertainment value.
Lie Rology is also not science, faith based woo woo.
Probably a CEO took one of these tests and it told him that he was narcissist. He financed this b.s. to sooth his ego.
LMAO
Yep. Corporate Psychopath’s!!
Persona and Joker are both on HBO Max... This is confusing.
I literally just got into the mbti community, and now you're telling me it's dangerous enough to warrant an HBO horror documentary on it?
The test itself it's not dangerous, it's the way this types of personality tests are being used by companies to exclude some people
Hbo Max doesn’t want you to drink the Kool Aid 😆 should be a great film all the same
Please stay away from the MBTI "community". If you are genuinely interested in personality science, read up on the Big Five model of personality. There isn't much of a social community surrounding it, but it is scientific consensus that the MBTI is a garbage personality measure, lacking both reliability and validity and offering no more insight than astrology. The Big Five, on the other hand, is the most psychometrically valid measure of personality and has been the scientific gold standard of personality measurement for decades. The MBTI is just "fun". But it's not useful. The Big Five can actually help you understand the individual characteristics that define you as a person as well as acknowledge your strengths and address your weaknesses. Contrary to popular sentiment, there is such a thing as a bad personality. If you are extremely high in neuroticism, you are almost definitely going to suffer from chronic anxiety and depression. If you are extremely low in conscientiousness, you are going to find it incredibly difficult to hold a steady job and get your work done. If you are extremely low in agreeableness, you are statistically more likely than those higher in agreeableness to be a serial killer. If you are extremely low in openness to experience, you are very likely to be a religious fundamentalist. Again, the MBTI is "fun", but the Big Five can provide you with actual insight about your character that is backed by the scientific literature.
Also, I just saw your reanimated GrubHub ad and that was so good!!!!! Well done!!!
@@fuducker2 Thanks for your input! You're right, the Big Five is much more straight forward in terms of understanding personality. The MBTI I mostly just peak into for fun, it's not very consistent. There are some in MBTI who go in depth about cognitive functions, but it's a concept I haven't quite wrapped my head around (pun not intended).
Lol, thanks for watching!

This seems like a serious distortion of the science of personality tests. Personality test, when used according to uniform guidelines, have virtually no discrimination based on race or gender.
Plus, they focus on the test that was not built for hiring.

I saw it and highly recommend it. I think it's a must-see. I especially enjoyed learning about the history behind the creation of the tests. I also loved how they delved into the future. Scary stuff for sure.
Just my personal opinion I've always felt the reason personality tests popular and people love them is because they offer a feeling of understanding and the control that brings. It's not unlike horoscopes. If something offers to explain the unknowable it makes you feel comfortable that you can handle it better. I think this why it's popular with people with self-esteem issues.
I love how one of the people interviewed likens it to phrenology. It's pseudoscience used for things that have far too many consequences.

Big data is like one big personality test that serves as a record for a human being. After someone dies this becomes a digital ghost. This ghost is the closest manifestation of a human being that could exist after someone dies. The only question is if their assessment of your personality is actually in line with your assessment of yourself.

Agreed, this is absolute nonsense. Although, the MBTI is absolute hogwash, that much we know.
Kid was bipolar manic depressive and his mother's father committed suicide with same diagnosis
When used for hiring? When used as grounds for discrimination in hiring it is fundamentally biased, that's the basis of hiring. It was developed for white men to classify their working potential. It isn't reflective of neurodiversity at all, I would expect more reflection from a psychologist.
@@hannahcooper1865 nope, actual validated personality assessments have have been demonstrated to significantly predict important workplace outcomes such as performance, job satisfaction, and turnover intention, without unfair discrimination. Neurodiversity ≠ variation in personality. Additionally, it is extremely rare that a single assessment is used as the sole source for hiring decision, contrary to the film’s depiction of the phenomenon. I knew I was not CRAZY THANK YOU FOR THIS FR
It's very simple actually:
✦ If a Personality Type test ― shows your ammm... Personality! ― it does its job.
✦ The idea of using a Personality Type test - to screen for jobs ― is not different than testing someone for Football ― by checking whether the person can control a Ball with their Feet well. It relates to Job ― doesn't relate to Personality.
So when people say that The Big 5 - is Scientifically Valid ― that's what it actually means. Since the Human Mind doesn't think Logically ― even the people who say that ― don't know what they are saying, and it needs to be explained.
