As an INFP, the test really helped me on my self-actualization journey, but there’s this stereotype that we’re incompatible with predominantly SJ workspaces (or the world at large) so it’s hard not to be disappointed in its application. And let’s not even begin with the whole “Sensors and Feelers are stupid” arguments...

      The Myers-Briggs Type Indicator is no more valuable than a horoscope.
      Every individual at some point falls in all 16 "unique" categories which is why everyone feels the assessment results are accurate.
      It's like a horoscope. It seems accurate because the participant is clouded by confirmation bias.

      that is if we assume that employers are God..
      if we work on the premise that we already know that big business works against the public good and needs to be made redundant - then the details of how they choose their employees is not that scary.. maybe they are just weeding out all of the non-compliant people - which are hopefully the same people best equipped to set up their own businesses and more effectively compete with them.. all part of a greater evolution..

    As someone with a personality disorder and several neurodivergent conditions, I can confirm that personality tests literally lower the chances of me getting hired, and contribute to me getting treated badly. They are shallow, further marginalize “weird” groups, and neurotypical society’s obsession with them is extremely harmful

    I see a few fellow psychologists have already commented. As a licensed psychologist myself, and one who happens to teach a graduate-level course on personality testing, I would likewise caution that this doc is about a specific type of test for a specific purpose. It is not about the larger field of personality testing research or administration. While the issues brought up in this film are alarming and need to be addressed, I worry viewers will generalize this information, leading to public misconception and mistrust in more valid and reliable testing practices (the MBTI is not well-accepted among the professional psychology community). As someone below already mentioned, many personality tests are psychometrically sound and show (on the whole) very little bias when used properly (according to numerous research studies). I encourage anyone watching to do so with the understanding that the term "personality test" is used rather narrowly.

    • @ashleybatastini9408
      @ashleybatastini9408 3 роки тому +5

      @@vittoriobollo3408 To reiterate, I agree that the uses of the particular tests highlighted in this documentary are wrong and inappropriate. And again, most psychologists do not consider the Myers-Briggs to be a true assessment of personality functioning, nor would they rely on one test to make any concrete determinations about an individual. The rest of your commentary is simply incorrect and uninformed.

    • @ashleybatastini9408
      @ashleybatastini9408 3 роки тому +1

      @@jasonq8144 I'm not very familiar with it, but I also don't specialize in vocational career assessment (this is a whole subfield in psychology!). I noticed the website includes a published meta-analysis (which is usually a high-quality form of research); however, it's a report disseminated by the publishing company. I did a quick search on my university library and found some studies that used it (e.g., one to predict success in a pharmacy doctoral program). Sometimes what makes a test "good" or not is more about how it's being used than the test itself (though sometimes the test can be the problem). Also, you probably wouldn't want to use this assessment (or any assessment) to make a serious decision in isolation of other types of information about a person. For example, your boss probably shouldn't use this test to decide who gets hired and who doesn't, or who gets promoted and who doesn't, etc. But, perhaps knowing something about your strengths might help decide which tasks/projects you might be interested in.

    • @joevaghn457

      I agree completely with this: "I worry viewers will generalize this information, leading to public misconception and mistrust in more valid and reliable testing practices (the MBTI is not well-accepted among the professional psychology community)." But, honestly, people have done, and will do, this exact thing, just as they have done with countless other things so far. I think it's going to happen one way or another, unfortunately. Once narratives are pushed by "trusted" sources, then a very specific partition of the population will do the same.

      Please stay away from the MBTI "community". If you are genuinely interested in personality science, read up on the Big Five model of personality. There isn't much of a social community surrounding it, but it is scientific consensus that the MBTI is a garbage personality measure, lacking both reliability and validity and offering no more insight than astrology. The Big Five, on the other hand, is the most psychometrically valid measure of personality and has been the scientific gold standard of personality measurement for decades. The MBTI is just "fun". But it's not useful. The Big Five can actually help you understand the individual characteristics that define you as a person as well as acknowledge your strengths and address your weaknesses. Contrary to popular sentiment, there is such a thing as a bad personality. If you are extremely high in neuroticism, you are almost definitely going to suffer from chronic anxiety and depression. If you are extremely low in conscientiousness, you are going to find it incredibly difficult to hold a steady job and get your work done. If you are extremely low in agreeableness, you are statistically more likely than those higher in agreeableness to be a serial killer. If you are extremely low in openness to experience, you are very likely to be a religious fundamentalist. Again, the MBTI is "fun", but the Big Five can provide you with actual insight about your character that is backed by the scientific literature.

It's not unlike horoscopes. If something offers to explain the unknowable it makes you feel comfortable that you can handle it better. I think this why it's popular with people with self-esteem issues.

    Welp, nowadays. with home-based jobs, there's always a personality test being done. when I was still applying, most of them had those, and I just took it, thinking, it was for research purposes, they needed to know how to handle such applicants or employees thru these tests. Never thought of it to be as deep as this shit. I might watch this when it comes out

Neurodiversity ≠ variation in personality. It's very simple actually:
    ✦ If a Personality Type test ― shows your ammm... Personality! ― it does its job.
    ✦ The idea of using a Personality Type test - to screen for jobs ― is not different than testing someone for Football ― by checking whether the person can control a Ball with their Feet well. It relates to Job ― doesn't relate to Personality.
    So when people say that The Big 5 - is Scientifically Valid ― that's what it actually means. Since the Human Mind doesn't think Logically ― even the people who say that ― don't know what they are saying, and it needs to be explained.
