  • In this video I take my 300 WBY and a 300 PRC to the range. I'm shooting the 200 gr Terminal Ascent in 300 WBY. I'm shooting the 220 gr ELD-X and 230 gr Berger OTM in 300 PRC. Hope you enjoy the video!

My view is the TA is a hunting bullet not a target bullet if your getting under 1 MOA your doing great anything after that is a waste of time and hard to find components. I’ve waited almost 4 years to get my hands on Federal’s 180gr Trophy Copper bullets for my favourite go to hunting rifle. If I’m getting under 1” I’m done, I’m not wasting hard to find components on poking holes in paper and a dirt bank, I’m not trying to shoot the ticks off an elks ass, I’m just shooting the elk. Perspective check and elks eyeballs is about a 1 MOA target, if you can hit that your doing fine. I’d be more worried about what those groups look like when shooting off hand and not on a bench on sand bags in perfect conditions. When the day comes and your out of breath from hiking, tracking or chasing him down, the adrenaline is pumping, your heart is pound out of your chest and you have no rest for your rifle, your rifle will out shoot you every time and is not the reason you missed.

Why do people need 1/2 MOA now out of medium or big game hunting rifles? I’m ecstatic if my hunting rifles are 1 MOA.

Some people thrive pushing for excellence. I'm happy with 1 inch or so. If you are spending the time and money to reload and Taylor a load for a gun why not try for the best

@@kylecasetta4091 to each their own I guess. I’d rather take that time and money on practicing with my hunting rifle in different shooting positions, then to try to squeeze out another 1/2 inch out of my group size. I just get the impression allot content creators on UA-cam are giving people the impression that 1/2 groups are the new norm or standard.

My dad has an old rifle, Enfield 303 British, best groups at 100 yards is around 4 inches with its favorite load, has taken more than one antelope, deer, elk, out past 300 yards, on more than one occasion

    • @Snailz5

1/2 MOA is 1/4 the size of a dispersion cone of 1 MOA so it is a lot greater degree of precision for what it’s worth. However, I think people get too hung up on specific numbers and lie to themselves because of it. One 3 shot group is 1/2 MOA so they claim it’s that and refuse to test it further. It doesn’t matter that it takes them 10 shots chasing their tail to get a zero. That load is 1/2 moa all day as long as I do my part!

In my experience with carbon fiber barrels. Have not seen razzle dazzle groups. 3 shots, always,I mean always have one flyer. 5 shots = 2 flyers. However the first shot is always spot on. I consider carbon fiber barrels are for reduced weight, not for target shooting. So, I'm ok with it.😊

OMG you can get 3100 fps with a 200g projectile with your 300 Roy??? Wow. I am not crazy about the belt on the case, but that would REALLY make me think twice about spending the $$ for a 300 PRC if I already owned the the 300 Roy. That kind of performance would take any kind of game in North America including the large costal Brown Bears in AK. Very impressed. Sometimes I catch myself wishing I had purchased the Roy instead of the 300 Win Mag (but my 300 Win does shoot really good).

I’d try Retumbo in the PRC. I have a 30 Sherman, 300 PRC improved, and it will run those 230 Berger Hybrids into a 6/10” group at 200yds while cruising at 3046fps. Some 300 PRC’s do not do well with H1000 I’ve seen.

  • @hickoryridgefarmer

    300 weatherby likes Retumbo
300 prc likes Vihtavuori. It will do ok with h1000 but will show pressure before you can get enough speed.

Question to hunters , after shooting an Elk twice how often do you need a 3rd shot ?…… So why do we need a 3 shot group when the first 2 are 1/2 inch apart Just asking ?…. These are ( Not ) target rifles they are hunting rifles !……….

I only recall one elk out of many that I have shot, that required more than two rounds, my longest shot has been 100 yards, only happened once, all the rest have been under 50 yards, I hunt thick timber here in wyoming, speaking for myself, I dont need or require half inch or smaller groups to take game cleanly, my dad has an old Enfield 303 British that shoots 4 inch groups with its favorite load at 100 yards, it's taken more than one antelope, deer, elk out past 300 yards on a few occasions

The way to win readership and eliminate competitors is to make a target of 5 groups and average the results.
Single good groups, anyone can get, so nothing informative is provided.

First off Hornady proves again they are number one over all The other cartridges (sarcasm) Second of all does a compressed load cause issues because some of the chunks break therefore changes how the powder burns or ignite or does it increase pressure which causes other issues or what is the main problem of a compressed load just so I can learn I personally never compress any loads

@michaelclark1645 It's either the brass not fitting or you loaded the bullet too long. If it's the brass your shoulder has expanded too much and you need to resize it back

    • @michaelclark1645
      @michaelclark1645 4 дні тому

@ReloadingWeatherby definitely the brass, after sizing it goes in,then the bolt goes to the point where it should close and won't. I run a single stage rcbs press, can the shoulder be taken back with a regular sizing die?
