I'm also on a Tascam and dbx gas rampage. However, I scored a pair of Valley People 440 for less than 400, and now I'm really relaxed about the dbx thing.
ahh valley people. those look dope
Never seen a hammer used to open boxes before, innovative!
this is not a box opener?
@@travisraab it is! The best tool man invented so far!
lol much fun to have dude, i'm enjoying the chaos.
I know you're pretty well settled into your dbx usage by now, but in defense of your minimalism goals with this, the classic dbx stuff is pretty dang minimalist as compressors go, and the "character they impart" seems very much your kinda sound, too. Glad at least one of them(?) stuck around lol
The warm tube preamp looks so sweet
I agree mark!
RCA doesn’t shape the tone like that it’s straight up just a noisier cable
yeah!!! need more sounds from those gears tho
DBX is good stuff. So are tube preamps. Let us know when you are ready to sell all this stuff! 🙂
it somehow feels wrong to sell to those with the same illness lolzzz
@@travisraab I going into this eyes wide open! LOL. About a month ago I sold a ton of stuff, got rid of my Tascam Model 12 mixer/interface, sold a ton of guitars, an amp, pedals, etc. Now, I'm ready to go shopping! LOL
@@rocknreplayim taking offers!
Wow Bro... Recovering "GAS" Alum here for sure. Those vintage DBX's have been taunting me for about 2 years. Definitely the same goals with them. For the most part, I've been good the last couple years. But only due to buying a piece that I make payments on. But in the end, as long as we're happy and creative... Cheaper than having "couch" sessions right??? Keep em coming. Peace Net...
hey man i appreciate ! good to hear from you
Cool stuff man, always enjoy ur vids I get hype every time👏🗿
I appreciate it Harry!
Hey Travis, I found your channel recenty while researching tape recorders. I want to get started using one and im considering buying a tascam 34b 4 channel tape deck. Is 4 channels enough to make basic band recordings? Thank you very much!
Aleks, welcome and thanks for being here. how many people are in your band? you need a minimum of 17, and only prime numbers
@@travisraab oh, you mean also a channel for every drum and cymbal? Because i saw your 3 and 4 mic drum recording setups and they seemed very good to me. Cant i get away with fewer channels by overdubbing the rest of the instruments? Btw there are 4 people in my band. Thank you!
Lots of new toys, fun!!
Whooooooo!
As long as the RCA connections are not too long I think you'll be fine with noise. Just avoid running them on top of a power supply to another box. Lots of cool pieces here.
Thanks for the tips!
Did I see cooling vents on the top of the new warm audio preamp? And you covered them?
No those slots are where you pour the water for cooling
@@travisraab 😂😂😁
The 118 and 128 are awesome units. They have the same vcas as the 160’s. You should look into the 3bx-ds, pretty amazing with that impact recovery
ill check it out thanks
The RCA side of the force is the pathway to many things some would consider to be unnatural. You need an RCA patchbay young Padawan.
You are convincing me!
What can tell us about that sweet little GK amp you got there? Just asking for a friend.
I can tell you it doesn't work and i haven't tried to fix it. Anybody know if it's any good?
@@travisraab What is it (not) doing? I believe its an GK 800RB, and yes, its a good amp. GK has a well established brand.
1:25 in and I'm pissing myself lol
oh the timing of this video couldn't be better (worse) I want an analog rack so bad
you can do it
Travis, a passive DI in reverse might do the trick to get unbalanced gear talking to the more modern stuff.
Thanks for the tip
are you just drilling holes into that peice of wood to mount them?
No this is a handcrafted artisanal piece of woodwork fairtrade organic
G.A.S. It’s pandemic! 😮
Btw, what do you think about the dbx128?
this one is kinda effed up. otherwise I like it. Some weird stuff happening in the lows that I gotta figure out. It looks cool !
@@travisraab
I believe that it’s made more for hifi-setups than being used for instrument signal line. I don’t know exactly how you use it but maybe using it as an effect send - from Tascam 388 to the 128 and then back again into the console? Or you suspect it’s the unit itself that mess signal up?
Btw, I have two of them..😉
i do enjoy the sound of both the 128 and 118. something was weird about the 128. none of the others were as noisy. i'm eager to try the 118 with my 388 right in a channel send (not global effect send)
But but but, after finish the episode I guess don’t look into it haha. I think what you might need is some musical socializing. I find myself obsessing over hear when I’m not particularly inspired, but a lot of the time, that’s because I get tired of writing and recording g by myself all the time. Others help me appreciate what I already have
there isn;t any music made on this channel. just bumbling with gear
I feel like you flip flop so hard one video is like 'possessions are poisoning our mind' and then the next you're stoked to have new shit to play with
Correct
