This was a huge help. We realized our conversion tracking was broken over the past month in GTM due to thank you page url change. We were capturing GCLID as hidden field on our forms and we were able to go back and upload these conversions.
I could watch you talk about this stuff all day. I watch tons of your videos. Out of everyone I watch this is the first real in depth view of store visits and tacking data. Appreciate it.
Is it OK to remove the Instructions and Template rows (e.g., lines 1 through 6) if adding the timezone to the Conversion Time column for each entry? We're using Zapier to add new rows when an external conversion happens, but it doesn't recognize the columns, since they aren't at the start of the sheet (row 1). So I'd like to remove rows 1 through 6 from the template. EDIT: the answer is yes, I can remove those, since Google is ignoring rows/cells with the # character anyway. :) P.S., it's also weird that after all these years, Google still hasn't fixed that merged cell.
I literally watched this video _at least_ 5 times this week. But finally just minutes ago I uploaded and applied my first offline conversion! So excited! Wish I'd known about this months ago (November/December is my busiest of the yr). I couldn't make my CRM grab the GCLID, but after a lot of digging I found an even more reliable GCLID catcher which doesn't use the CRM or contact form so I'm using that. So as of Jan 25, 9am EST, I've been getting GCLIDs. Had other basic questions like "For conversion time, do I put the time the lead first converted in Google Ads? Or the time they actually booked a show?" I'm pretty sure it's the time they booked and paid, since that's what this conversion is all about. And "Do I put in my time zone or the client's time zone?" But I'm pretty sure I sd put in my own (G Ads) time zone since you put your own without thinking twice about it.
WIth the uploads. Do you only need to upload the leads that convert? Or isit beneficial to give $0 value to the leads that didn't too? Also, when uploading the Google sheet, do you need to remove the leads on there before you upload again with new data? Will Google spot the duplicate or double count the conversion?
Thanks for your question! We will add it to our list and run it by our strategists. In the meantime, keep an eye on our UA-cam channel, and the answer may be featured in a future video.
I’m wondering about forms vs an email button on my landing page for an animation service business , email buttons give me no conversion tracking at all is that right? But I’ve been advised to always have an email button is that good advice? Thinking only a form would allow proper offline conversion tracking without loosing half of the data to emails?
Hi there! I have been trying to setup offline conversion tracking however I am not able to find the value for my qualified leads and converted lead. Can you help me with this.
Hi Kasim: Have two quick questions (perpetual traffic listener as well). If I have a user that lands on a client site from Google ads and they they dial the number on the site, but dial randomly, not click to dial through the site and convert. How do I track this? Is this the method.....they don't have GCLID. How would I establish that connection.
I am working with a client to link Google Ads and Salesforce. I still had to add the GCLID to their salesforce form etc.... I guess my question is can you expand on when you said that Salesforce connects to Google Ads automatically? Because I do not find that to be the case.
Hi Man thanks could you please advise if you faced it. we configured api conversion transfer but there is a problem - we see those conversions in the UI all conversions and all conversion values but we have difference in total value - how we can check every conversion separately and it's conversion values to make a reconciliation in the ads?
Hi, Kasim, got a simple question: when you input the value for a particular purchase, do you put in the life time value or just the purchase amount for that transaction? Thanks.
1. How often should you upload offline data? 2. Does that Google sheets connection persist? Can you schedule it to process the upload automatically? If we could dynamically update the sheet via the CRM that would be interesting.
Hi Adrian, how often you upload offline conversion data depends on the volume of leads to import. Weekly is great but monthly is fine too. Yes, you can schedule to import automatically using a Google Sheet.
Great video: how often would you pass offline data to google? We are running a lead gen program four our sell you car online business. We have not done offline conversions for this brand before?
One important factor that can help determine the frequency of uploads is "sales velocity." Ideally, you should be doing it every week, but once a month is also fine. However, if the upload is months away after the ad was clicked, then Google can't attribute it to the ad/campaign sometimes. In conclusion, if you are closing leads every week, then you should be uploading conversions every week.
We are def looking into this. Now for us we do B2B with long times of lead nurturing. We are talking 6 months to close a lead. Kasim, would you recommend these approach for that typo of client or perhaps just uploading opp values to help google optimize.
Great guide. Quick question for you. Let's say I have a conversion action that's being pulled in from a CRM automatically and I decide to manually upload some conversions with the same conversion action name from that same CRM. Is it safe to assume that Google deletes any duplicates due to overlapping GCLIDs?
Thanks for watching Momentine! I haven't encountered this personally but I believe you'd risk counting duplicate conversions. You can have multiple conversion actions tethered to the same GCLID (since a user can take multiple actions) and, depending on how your conversion action is setup, you can count a conversion multiple times. At a minimum, I would make sure your conversion count setting isn't set to "count every". However, even in that case I don't know if Google would default to the most recent or (my guess) to the first one. That's something to test!
Pretty confused here. Where am I getting the GCLID data from? I looked extensively online and couldn't find an answer. I looked everywhere on Hubspot and cant find anything related to GCLID data. Help?
Thanks for the amazing video. I am a little bit confused when seeing "If any of the conversions you import are within one day of the click, Google Ads may not be able to record them yet. As a best practice, upload an extra day's worth of data with each import. " What does this mean? If a click happens on March 1st, do I need to upload the conversion file on March 2nd?
Hey, thanks for the video. It was indeed a great help...:) One question - Some of my google ads leads are not showing in google ads hence want to manually import those leads in the existing conversion action. Is that possible? If yes, can you please guifde me a way for the same?
Hey guys, I am loving all the offline conversion import content you have posted. it has been a great help in diving into this exciting topic! I have a quick question for you. Is it a recent google update for automatic GLID tracking if auto-tagging is turned on? I was under the impression that we need to do some code install on the website and I spoke to the\ google tag team to help me instal the codes but they seemed a bit confused by my question as it apparently automatically does it. I have been testing this a bit and every ad I click does show glid tracking evidence in the URL, so does this mean we do not need to do any colder install for gclid tracking to get started with offline conversion imports? Thanks so much!!
Hi Joey, yes, so, if auto-tagging is enabled, then Google will automatically add the Gclid to every ad click. So, there is nothing else needed to start capturing Gclid on the site. If you're not seeing the Gclid inside the contact record still, then the next step is to ask the CRM's support reps where to find it in their platform. Thanks for watching!
Hi Kasim, Thanks for your great video I have a question about google analytics. I have the google pixel in my website since one year but i have never created a google analytics account yet. I want to create a google analytics now for my website. It's possible to retrieve the data from my google pixel to have my website analytics from the past or it's too late ? Thanks a lot 🙂
Hi Kasim. I am able to capture gclid using an additional code in Shopify analytics tracking. Then associate it with a Custom Parameter. Now gclid comes in to User Explorer dashboard along with other user specific data. If i send this over to Google Ads, will it look back within conversion period and add the offline conversion when the Conversion Events happen? Meaning do i send all sessions that have gclid to filtered by conversion events?
Hi there! Okay, so the way offline conversions work is you need to upload GClids and associate it with a conversion action within Google. To do this, Google only needs two things: First, what was the Gclid, and second, what was the conversion action you want to show in Google Ads coming from that Gclid? Google has a 90-day look back window in order to track conversions so if the click happened 91+ days ago, Google will show an error saying the click is too old.
Hi Kasim - Question if I have 3 separate landing pages for 3 separate campaigns would I have to create and label 3 different conversion actions and add them in 3 different google sheets for each specific campaign as well? or can I put them all in one google sheet with the gclids. How would it know which campaign to attribute a conversion to in one sheet? ..../ Zappier only lets you connect to one conversion action at a time
Hi Michael, the gclids will match up with the user's click, so Google Ads will show you which campaign the click was associated with. You can view this information by going to the main campaigns dashboard and clicking "Segment" and then "By Conversion Action" which will show how many conversions came through each campaign. So, I think it's safe to put them all into one Google Sheet and just import them into one conversion action.
one more offline conversion import question :) Do you know if it is possible to backfill offline conversions from before the setup was in place to show the gclid data on the lead form? So, to essentially find the gclid data from the conversion on google ads, then matching it with the corresponding lead by the date and inputting that data? So essentially my question is, is there any way to see the gclid data from a lead within the google ads platform? That could help with backfilling the offline conversions. Would love to hear your thoughts, thanks again!!
What software do you use for tracking conversions across the entire funnel? E.g., to make sure you are attributing value to top of funnel traffic? I've heard you mention it on a UA-cam video or two. I couldn't hear the name of that software product clearly enough to write it down.
So GCLId data is manually taken from crm and uploaded on sheet or can we just download the data sheet in cvs formate from crm and click on uplod on ads?
Download the data from your crm and then you need to use the template that is found in the Conversion section of Google Ads and assemble the right info into the right columns.
