America's New AC-130J Ghostrider Gunship is a Beast
Вставка

- The AC-130J Ghostrider's primary missions are close air support, air interdiction and armed reconnaissance. Close air support missions include troops in contact, convoy escort and point air defense. Air interdiction missions are conducted against pre-planned targets or targets of opportunity and include strike coordination and reconnaissance and overwatch mission sets.
The AC-130J provides ground forces an expeditionary, direct-fire platform that is persistent, ideally suited for urban operations, and delivers precision low-yield munitions against ground targets.

My great uncle was a Bofors gunner in WWII in the Navy. Bummed to see that the Bofors is no longer in service. Crazy to think they were searching the world for parts... that's what we have machinists for.
As someone who worked on the bofors cannon on the U model, the 30mm is a hell lot accurate. Also finding parts for the bofors was a huge issue. I was able to snag a flash hider for one before they took them out of service.
I assume you're American, as a Swede I was more surprised to even see the Bofors 40mm on the AC-130J today! First of all those paint jobs on these planes are kick-ass, and I flew on a C-130 for enlistment check-up, don't know what you call it in America but hopefully you understand. So I love those big ass planes! Also find it weird you (americans) have to scour the world for spare parts, Sweden/Bofors should just do as back in wwii and let US companies produce the cannon once again. Otherwise it would be so much easier if diplomacy could be done over youtube comments between nations hehe, me as a Swede could sign up on offering to produce more Bofors 40mm for you Americans, if you as an American can make sure we/Sweden could get some discount and buy a bunch of AC-130J.

I'm not working in the aerospace sector, but I am an engineer, and as an engineer, I love designs like the AC-130's. Those are designs that may be not be flashy and may not have the latest and greatest tech. But they are reliable, stable, sturdy, flexible, reusable, and so successful that they are used for decades even though their overall tech may be outdated. Similarly, I prefer cars that may not be a looker, but are reliable, easy to maintain, handle adverse weather conditions, and just keep on working and working. Or, when we look at old cellphones, the counterpart would be the indestructible Nokia 3310.
Toyota and Honda
Legend says that the only AC-130 Spooky ever shot down, was with a Nokia 3310.
🔰
And thats why i want another 1990's toyota corolla.
I think the avionics and weapons systems are advanced of their kind.
I remember military personnel that served in Viet Nam that talk about "Puff the magic dragon (Puff)" and the sounds of the different weapons as they fired. What amazed me was the fact that the men operating those weapons compensated for drift without computers.
Stories of green berets calling in fire from “spooky” to as close as 5 meters in front of them, and they hit the target exactly. It’s incredible how quickly USAF mastered this weapon so quickly.
Its just like playing a video game, you get used to it very quickly and can do without thinking about it
you get used to the drift very quickly and know where to shoot
Puff was a version of the this mission and the pioneer of what we have today. But again, the DoD thought the concept was unnecessary.
Thank you GE!
I see they really put the time into reducing the shockwave/recoil into the guns. I heard the older main gun would shake the plane lol oh n this new gunship looks amazing. A true angel of death.

The AC-130 is the Air Force's version of your uncle's chevy lowrider. Every year that plane is a more dated but your uncle keeps putting the most current gatling gun and tank cannon.
The C-130J isn't just an upgrade package; They're "new" builds as far as I know. The cannons are anything but the latest either. Now if they could've tacked a Bushmaster IV and a Rheinmetall Rh-130 cannon on her? That'd be NASTY!

Juggernaut will be for the mech suits
Jaegermeister would be better...
There is nothing unstoppable about this plane. It only works for killing 70 year old taliban fighters with rusty ak47s. The moment there is a chance of a surface to air missile available to the enemy, this airplane gets grounded for the mission.
There's nothing more American than putting a howitzer on a prop plane
It looks like the operators are loading bananas in the ammo belt! Those rounds are so huge!😂. Could you imagine being on the wrong side of those guns?!😅
All it needs is ghost rider him self to enchant the plane and add some flames.
Or just some massive speakers that plays "Ghost Riders In The Sky" in repeat
This guy’s voice is like a knife on the ears.
I found myself turning it down to less than half of max volume.
Sounds like a hockey announcer.
Too many long titles, numbers, letters, statistics, fluffy words. All true I’m sure. Couldn’t get past half way and then only because I turned the sound down.
Boomer nasal voice.
To me, the voice sounded more millennial c*ck-in-throat.
:40 To me the term “armed reconnaissance” means you report on what you just blew the shit out of. Kind of a contradiction but I love it.
1:34 it almost looks like there's ammunition just hanging into the cockpit on the right when you first notice it in your periphery lol
I see a wide variety of flying death machines training where I live. They may not be the sexiest beast. But seeing the AC130 sneaking up the river is always kind of a special treat. You always see them way up there on tv, but they do nap of the earth quite well.
They sure do. It’s a real bitch trying to stand in a full jump rig with a 240 while the pilots are getting wild on the way in.
I'd like to see them add the GAU-19 to this platform
"The ghostrider has saved lives." Tell that to the doctors at the Kunduz hospital.
As long as the enemy does not have ant aircraft missiles, anti aircraft cannons, or fighter and intercept aircraft because the AC130 is a lumbering beast.
It doesn't fly alone
It has flares for the anti air missiles
I'm glad they kept the 105mm howitzer!
“HOT DAMN!”
“I see a lot of little pieces down there.”
“SHOT OUT!”
The angle of death is doing it's job, those soldiers better have a good day once they get back to base
Okay now give those boys some oxygen masks. I’ve heard a story about how some gunners had high levels of lead poisoning from these gunships.
Yeah youre right. Its not a pressurized cabin but some of those flight missions take a long time. Im a 19k armor crewman but hell you can smell the lead after a couple rounds. Good thing we run our missions in and out and can also undo our hatches and get fresh air. But these guys are fucked.
