The beach sequence is my favorite part of the series. The "i dont want to be the main character anymore" look on his face gets me everytime 😢

I do love the meta joke about "the beach episode". Like in almost every anime the beach episode in an excuse for goofy jokes, light fun, and fan service tiddies.
Then there's AOT where they show their ankles and talk about how depressing the future will be

The sad symbolism of Armin holding a sea shell literally on his hand but Eren is not even looking at it. The sea shell is like a depiction of innocent small things to enjoy. Armin still had hopes, dreams, innocence but Eren lost it all.
imo i feel that its more of showing the different dreams, armin dreamt of the sea which is why hes holding the sea shell something that you can only get from the sea, whereas eren is looking beyond the sea towards what his dream was, freedom, now ruined. armin thought they both shared the same dream but he was wrong which is why eren doesnt even look at the shell. but well thats just my opinion you might still be right

@@TheCacYeah i think both of you are correct in a way. Erens main goal is freedom, while armins dream is to explore the beauty and wonders of the world. Both of the dreams were symbolised by the sea.
We see in this episode before thee ceremony eren thinks about the sea and quickly remembers the sea can no longer symbolise freedom, as beyond the sea ,theres war and suffering is waiting them.
The sea turns from a symbol of freedom to a reminder that they aren’t free at all and their end may be near to come.
I believe that’s why eren is no longer interested in the small beauties of world as now he has seen the world for what it truly is and knows what future has in store for everyone.
About the thing he touch the titan and knew he was a patriot it wasn’t because he touch him, it was because all titans there is patriot 😂, so doesn’t matter which titan was, all titan was send to paradise
But you can also be a child that goes outside of the walls without the armband and be sent to paradise, as said by the owl. Not every titan is a patriot.
@@NimVimCorrect, but think about this from Eren’s perspective. To him, anyone that defies Marleyan oppression could be considered a patriot. He’s speaking as an outsider to the conflict.
Edit: they also don’t know if it’s a child, patriot, or some bystander. It’s a very human thing to assume that person was sent their for actively fighting against Marley.

I hate when people say that , I disagree a lot with that , S4 is just a sequel and it wasn't even that good especially Part 2 of S4 was a mess in evrey aspects (I enjoyed the part 1 a lot tho)

I really like the feelings you described while watching this episode. Pretty sure it is what the writers intended. This anime describes a lot of old sayings such as "ignorance is bliss".

But it wasn't bliss. Remember the island king did all this trying to create "paradise" but even when you cut off information and erase people's memories, people still suffered within the walls. "Ignorance is bliss" is what the King hoped was true as he ran from his own responsibilities.
@@sliceoflife7423Yeah that’s one of many beauties of the show. There is never one clear answer, each path has its it benefits and cons .
We’ve seen that theme of world being cruel yet beautiful from the beginning and is present until the end.
It’s also nice that by the end of the story you can see and understand every perspective of the major factions we see. Like after it’s all said and done King Fritz’s solution of making “ paradise” inside the walls for as possible, which ended the war of titans. Was a pretty reasonable solution now that we see what erens solution was.
7:45 all titans are "fellow patriots". Eren is saying that the titan they saw there, like all the others, is just another Eldian trapped in this hell. He's touching it out of affection and pity.
The world is cruel , but so beautiful.
I really think the end credit scenes in this episode are so underrated. Showing parallels what is happening in the outside world while showing scenes from the people of paradise just hits different.
Notice Floch doesn’t have the guts to say that to Levi who was the one who actually made the decision. and Levi didn’t do it out of sentimentality for Armin or Eren or Mikasa for that matter. It was actually Floch’s words about Erwin that convinced Levi to make the decision he made (although to be fair he couldn’t have foreseen that).
Doesn't change the fact of him being right , armin was the most useless titan during the whole s4

Erwin isn't a superhuman who can magically solve all the world's problems.
Erwin would have done things similarly to Armin since it has been established that they both function on the same wave length.

You can tell how Eren has changed just by looking at his eyes throughout the Seasons. They tell what he has been through.
Eren not even caring about the sea anymore, and is only focused on the enemies beyond really marks the significant change of his character. I also adore the silence as they witness the sea for the first time.
Anyways, prepare for the endgame.

I yeah he care about the sea, but i think he cared more about what it meant. The sea symbolised to him being free from the walls.
After he is enlightened by all the memories, he realised the sea was just another wall between him and the new enemies. That is why he asks if we cross the sea, like the did the wall and defeat their enemies, will they finally be free.
It’s pretty sad how sea became confirmation to him that the memories were all correct and he now knows what he must do to finally be free.

Of course on the other hand it’s because all the memories he has from the past and future don’t allow him to enjoy the present, like beauty of the world that’s right in front of him but that’s why it’s a matter of perspective.

Eren is simply showing empathy towards the titan by touching it gently, he didn't realize it was a "fellow patriot" when he made a contact with it, he realized the titans were patriots months ago when he opened up his fathers memories.
If there was a memory connection with the titan, like with Historia earlier in the episode, then there would have been sparks of lighting appearing when he touched it.
The fact that there is the most important scene of all AOT in this episode 🤯🤯

Poor Eren, couldn't even enjoy the moment and didn't look down at the sea he's longed for, or the shell, or his friends, still a bird in a cage only looking at the sky and oppressors beyond. He's not full emo yet, but the last bit of the story with his man bun, I think he looks pretty darn cool.

Attack on Titan beach episode!
We thought when Eren, Armin and Mikasa find the sea, it would be a joyous occasion where they finally defeated all the Titans and finally got Freedom. However, we realize that there are more enemies, ones even worse than the titans they faced and finding the sea never felt more ominous and depressing.
At that moment it was an ennemy they have defeated once.
So it wasn't that depressing for me.

Regarding Eren's "emo phase" it's also connected to having seen so much through the different memories, like the more you know the more depressed you can become

It's like he's living every moment in time simultaneously, that'd take a toll on anyone.
At the end of this season, Eren let the Titans go because he knew that the pure Titans were the Eldian race that was thrown away and changed by the Marleyans. Eren's point of view towards Titans in seasons 1 to 3, considered Titans to be enemies but now everything has changed

He knew the titan was a fellow patriot because every eldian can turn into a titan. Which is sad. Knowing that this whole time they were just trying to kill each other/kill fellow patriots that was tuened into titans.

Agreed. Season 3 part 2 was masterful, but I would argue Season 4's plot elevates AOT above any other anime I've watched.

@@krystofkassa5753 Same, that's why I'm so excited that WIT is working on the new One Piece adaptation!! Though I don't know how I'd feel about potentially losing the original voice actors...
Also, controversial take: I hate most of the stylistic changes to JJK Season 2. I don't blame the animators because they're terribly over-worked and I think they deserve all the sympathy in the world, not to mention non=abusive working conditions. But I hate the shift in art direction and shot composition.

Eren just knew the titan was a fellow patriot not by any memories or special thing but just by the fact...every titan we've looked at with hate was once a restorations fighting for the freedom of their ppl...and yeah like you said...eren can't smile...he's not excited by the sea cos to him it's not in books anymore..at this point he fully remembers his dad's whole life...life outside the walls doesn't have freedom it's just more enemies and the sea isn't a place of joy it's basically the last thing eldians saw before they became titans...so yeah...hence his apparent depression.
Now on to season 4...the main AOT show begins

I think all of the "congrats on finishing the prologue" comments do nothing but try to diminish how the first 3 seasons actually define everything that is loved about this show. You can call it a prologue if it makes you feel cool, but it won't change the fact it is much more than a prologue. It is literally were most of the development occurs, and had it been any shorter we would all complain.
For me season 1 to 3 is the main show while season 4 is the bad ending epilogue.

ThanksAT was beyond words with at the sea scene.
My favourite thing about AOT is how well is does thematic reversals. It's like a spiral tennis match; first we find out a titan is a human (Eren's reveal), then we find out that humans are titans (Eren's first on-screen transformation), then we realize that this means our enemy is human, then we find out ALL titans are humans, then we finally realize that WE must all be titans.
It's chilling to put it all together and realize the hated enemy we fought for the first three seasons is US! And the world will fight us as hard and as justified as we fought our fellow Titans.

Ah I also felt quite depressed at this point of the show… kind of from the battle at Shiganshina in season 3 part 2 onwards it made me feel amazingly depressed. And really I’m impressed with the show for making me feel like that, yet still wanting to continue watch it 🥲🥹

The thing is, Eren, but also everybody in Scouts, they were chasing freedom and unknown behind walls. Eren especially with memories knowing what's behind there, knowing the seriousness of everything what's coming, can be nothing but depressed. The sole enemy - titans, happend to be actually his fellow kin, many of them actually were 'killed' by trying to chase freedom for other Eldians as well, outside that, the only positive thing - the sea, and everything behind it also turned to be a nightmare, instead of freedom, he has world wanting his/their death, despite reaching their goal, they are further from freedom than they ever were.
Really SnK has one of the best story in whole media ever (and you have soo much yet to see)
