I remember watching this live and the vibe in the crowd was like, "No way is he going to do the freestyle part. There's no way he can pull it off." Then he fucking did it and everybody lost their shit - the sound here doesn't do it justice! Insane performance.
This was around the time they were really pushing Stone Sour and promoting them as often as possible. Anytime Corey did anything professional like interviews or appearances, he was “Corey Taylor from Stone Sour.”
Anyone else notice Corey using his “old” screams during this, which was at a time period when he had major throat issues and also started doing the weird high pitch screams for Slipknot? Hearing this and making that connection just blew my mind.
I was 16 when I came to Download Festival 2006 for the first time in my life. I'd finally had a chance to see Korn for the first time in my life because I was a huge fan. When I heard the rest of the band members made a statement that Jonathan couldn't make it because he was ill and had been taken to a hospital in London, I thought "Oh no. That's a disappointment.". They made that statement before they started to perform but they've managed to get Corey Taylor and other lead singers from different bands to do vocals. Then I thought "Corey Taylor from Slipknot doing vocals for Korn? " That made my fucking day. Corey did it spot on.
@@iamtheblackwizard88 he did it better than anyone else can because let's face it, it takes courage and balls to pull off those vocals because it's either he pulls off the vocals or absolutely embarrasses himself because that's the part of the song that people know the best! Not to mention it's basically an acapella part so all the attention at that point in the song is on the vocalist!
I was at this download, what I would loved about Corey Taylors tracks with Korn, when he was filling in for the ill JD, he stayed true to himself when singing, you had other singers come on and try and imitate John, Corey didn't feel the need to change who his style for it, and I respected him for that.
How is it there's lyrical flubs in the first verse and chorus ("life's always gotta be messin' with me", "you and I were meant to me"), but he gets all the crazy gibberish in the bridge perfectly? LOL.
Me too! Johnathan Davies the lead singer was rushed to hospital hours before the performace so Corey had to step up. Was fantastic but not the same as Johnathan
Frickin amazing, nothing more can be said. Yea, JD is the man, yet Corey. . what an amazing talent!!!! To do this un rehearsed and yet sound like this . . .
You should all read up on your news archives. John was unable to perform on the band set at Download Festival, So to avoid disappointing the army of fans watching, they quickly gathered together some KoRn admiring vocalists, and had them singing instead of John. MAtt HEafy did Blind, Corey taylor did this, Benji webb sung adidas and so on. Look it up. IMO, this one was the best.
Funny story: I was there for this and I remember we were so busy, passing the time, staring at tits on the big screen that the WHOLE crowd hadn't noticed that KORN had walked on stage, looking a bit sheepish, about to explain that there had been a change of plan. KORN looked confused why no one was cheering, because they couldn't see the screens. Everyone around me laughed when they realised. What happened next was awesome, like a pro karaoke on the biggest stage possible.
Given the angle, I wonder if I was sat next to this person filming? There was a little hill were a few of us were sitting watching. Other bands did their karaoke slot, but Corey was the best
@narutonutcase I was at download fest 06.. Well, I live in donington But I acctually missed this performence because my mate said that John was ill and wouldn't be singing so we never went to watch it O.o when I later found out I was just all like wtf mate i just missed corey taylor covering for JD I was 16 and that was my first music fest =P and I loved it, despite missing probably the best bit about that year
he did the whole concert, this is when the korn vocalist couldnt sing a few shows so he asked corey to sing them for him so they didnt have to cancel the tour. lol so he had no choice,he had to song it. he sang that whole tour for korn i believe
iwas there it was fantastic only 2 things ruined the weekend wicked wisdom and guns n roses both were bloody awful, wicked wisdom played twice for some reason
Arturs Dāvids are you joking? 'Idiot'. you can here zero bass. Just listen to it. Ya can here the kick drum sure but that shouldn't be mistaken for the bass guitar
You can even empathy on what was the recording capabilities from crowds perspective in 2006? Or that even if you would get/sneak in half decent, giant camera trough non-press gates, the sound from LIVE stage PA is just way more than any device and its microphone can comprehend recording, let alone in 2006. Even in this LIVE clip you can often hear the sound clipping and can hear the audio compressing automatically, because the device is literally peaking out because of above reasons. Wtf, dude :D The kick drum can be audible, because it sure is with emphasis on more High-mids and Low mids, so it would cut more trough live PA mix. So happens, that the camera on avarage is in the same range, not very distinctive on lows and high, let alone get whole spectrum in proportion to record it properly. :D So that's why the clipping and compressing on the go. That's fucking common sense and basics if not. Anything else? :D :D
Lol, as if you could be arsed writing all that. I've got plenty of phone recordings from that time and bass sounds fine, especially in a band where the bassist plays with the treble. Think your a bit of a thicky aren't you, Berrrrr fucking thicky.
Fuck. Corey Talor sucks at doing the 'scat' portion. I KNOW I can do that better than him. Hell i've had several people tell me I do a damn good impression of JD when it comes to that.
2:59 oh my god. He fucking did it, and nailed it
Corey Taylor is the only one who could pull off the freak out as good as JD.
I remember watching this live and the vibe in the crowd was like, "No way is he going to do the freestyle part. There's no way he can pull it off." Then he fucking did it and everybody lost their shit - the sound here doesn't do it justice! Insane performance.
It's so fucking easy
I just told the same story to me new lady as we speak. 1100% everyone else was like naaa he aint doing it.

I must admit I'm a bit disturbed by the "corey taylor from stone sour"
He doenst have a mask, so this is the one from Stone Sour
And he was in Stone Sour before Slipknot.
This was around the time they were really pushing Stone Sour and promoting them as often as possible. Anytime Corey did anything professional like interviews or appearances, he was “Corey Taylor from Stone Sour.”
I'm a bit disturbed by how on point Corey Taylor sounds to the record version of this song, it's crazy.
No mask =stone sour
Anyone else notice Corey using his “old” screams during this, which was at a time period when he had major throat issues and also started doing the weird high pitch screams for Slipknot? Hearing this and making that connection just blew my mind.
Yeah I heard his screams of Iowa.. 2006 was actually corey's best year since 2002 because he was still able to do iowa screams

This was great all these guys filling in for JD on short notice.
Wow this vid is 15 yrs old !!
And Coreys stood in a plain white Tshirt singing a Korn song.
Damn I love it!

corey is so awesome...one of the greatest of all time. Korn is awesome too...love this song.
I was there :) one of korns band members were ill, so they replaced him and it was by far the best performance I've ever seen :)

Corey Taylor is amazing. This is just as good if not better than the original. My opinion.

Dude Corey Taylor goes absolutely the fuck off covering this for JD. Fucking nasty.
JD was in the hospitlel at this day._.
FUCK ITP
Ok,of course JD can sing those KoRn songs better, but Corey does a good job.
He was the only singer who actually gave a f*ck, and the only singer that day that you could tell was also a LEGIT KoRn fan.
Oddly enough, the one time I got to see Korn Joey Jordison was sitting in on drums.
