- Better Ways to End Your Baseboards (How To Cut Baseboard Returns) Not sure how your baseboards should finish? We'll show you a couple of easy ways to cap or return your baseboards so that they look more professional!
Terminating trim mid-wall can be a real head scratcher (especially if you're new to the whole 'finish carpentry' thing). Most of the time, baseboards end up in a corner. Thats easy! But what are you supposed to do when you need them to stop in the middle of a wall- or anywhere there ISN'T a place to hide the edge?
Short answer? You've got a couple of choices (some better than others). In this video, we're going over the basic options: the back bevel (most basic), the 90º return (more ornate) and the end-cap (most complicated).
With any luck, this video will not only help you decide how to end your baseboard, but also give you the confidence to do it yourself!

I enjoyed what you had to say, how you explained it, and your choice to go with the return end. I do have one honest question, what did you guys go with the return ending at a 90 and not an ending at the same angle as the wall so that you filled in the remaining empty wall space?

That is a great question. Our main intention was to NOT draw attention to the angle of the wall, and we found that doing this (as opposed to what you suggested) did that more effectively 👍
Never done the back bevel...looks lazy to me. Love the look of the "self terminating"(Never tried that one). The "end cap" is what I usually do...but the trick of using the glue to hold it together is the best(and potentially will save me the frustration and probably some cussing). Thank you for sharing!
We think so too- but we see it in almost every home (even the really expensive ones). We use the end cap most, but the 90° return is a great look if it fits the aesthetic of the home. The glue has been a game changer for us 😉

I tried to cun an end cap about 10 times and every time it was wrong. I am running out of ways to cut.

I have a closed stairs that Im installing a skirt up one wall, but it terminates at the bottom of the stairs to the floor & feels like it should wrap around the end of the adjacent wall. Im using 1x3 squared base, nothing fancy. Any suggestions would be appreciated. Wish I could include photo. Thank you!

He’s a master at trimming his way out of incredibly difficult scenarios, and he’s likely got a video (or videos) that will help you 👍
