If you use a rating system it makes a lot of sense. The compression itself is vastly superior to JPEG.

So with a DNG when I do edits they get save to that DNG, so basically I could copy that file and move it from my laptop to my desktop's Lightroom. To keep working on it.

great to know. now how do i turn off the lossless compression that i didn't know was pre-activated.

Why keep 4000 images at all if you know you're never ever ever going to want those at all? Why save them with lossy compression if you're never going to use them? Waste of space in my opinion

Yeah, sure, so if some propietary raw file maker goes out of business no software will be able to load these old raw files anymore, huh? What kind of argument is that??
