Julieanne is absolutely fantastic when it comes to teaching. I've taken several of her Photoshop courses and I've always been pleased. I'm familiar with Bridge, but new to Lightroom. I think her explanation as to which to use and for what and when, is excellent. Thank you Ms. Kost.

I’ve been using bridge for years it’s so underestimated but when you’re a professional you know what products you really need to use!

As I was viewing a tutorial on Bridge, I started to wonder why I needed to learn Bridge since I was already using LR and PS. This video has convinced my that I. as a hobbies photographer, probably don't need to waste my time right now learning Bridge. Just saved my a lot of time wasted going through a multi-course Bridge tutorial.

Excellent. Thanks for a comprehensive and well laid out overview Julienne! Just about everything I needed to know in considering moving from Bridge+PS to Lightroom+PS.

Really useful. I've been jumping back and forth between Bridge+ACR+PS and LR+PS and it is making me crazy, crazy. So I have decided, now that I've watched this, even though it dates back a few years (update maybe?), that LR workflow for a one-man operation is best. If you decide differently, I can recommend a Bridge tutorial on Lynda.com with the same host.

One question if I may. If I choose lightrooms database system, catalogues & collections etc, then decide I no longer want to subscribe to CC, basically I'm screwed ! Right ?
However if I choose Bridge with the browser format, then decide I no longer want CC, everything stays the same, OH & because Bridge is a FREE bit of software, I can continue to use it , even though I am no longer "subscribed" to CC ! You forgot to mention that !

I'm probably one of the few photographers who does not use Bridge or Lightroom. Worked out my own filing and archiving system, years ago, which works well for me in my one person business. For me, Bridge and Lightroom just add another layer to my workflow that I find unnecessary.

Might be time to update this video. Done 6 years ago and LR has changed drastically in that time frame.

Question. I prefer to reorganize files in Bridge. LR does not seem to pick up the reorganized files Am i missing something?

What about a bridge and lightroom workflow? Does it make sense. I don't want to spend on PS. I am not that serious/ frequent about it, although I have been a pretty good at SLR photographer for 30+ years now.

I recently bought Lightroom 5, but have been using Bridge or years. The one stumbling block I have with Lightroom is that I seemingly can't tab through the sliders in the develop module like I can with Bridge. Tabbing through and using shift tab to go back again is a MASSIVE time saver over using the mouse/tablet to select a slider to be adjusted. I then use the up and down arrows on the keyboard with the shift key to make adjustments. With Lightroom you can tab between sliders, but the sliders are broken up into sections which means I have to keep using the cursor to select a new section to adjust. This really slows down my workflow. Do you have a way around this as other than that I like Lightroom? Thanks.

This is obviously an old video, but it should have been more like "Lightroom vs. Bridge + Camera RAW" rather than "Photoshop" because you'd use PS in both workflows in some cases (or you don't have to) but you would use some form of the ACR engine in either workflow (either through LIghtroom or directly with ACR itself). But I guess since about 2020 Adobe made the ACR interface very similar to the Lightroom interface so there is no real advantage from a Develop standpoint between the two, at least overall.

Indeed, great presenter! Very hard topic. The only thing I didn't like that much were the presentation slides. To much written information, people don't read that much.

  • @normanparatore2698

Even more relevant, there is now 2 versions of LR - classic and CC. CC now is a totally different program the interface and intent is not the same as the old CC.

Why not add to light room the ability to use a real database like mysql as an alternative to sqlite so that multiple users could work in parallel?

This is a very useful comparison. Interestingly, Lightroom has become increasingly slow since this video was made, so many of the speed arguments have shifted in favor of Bridge.

I noticed that the pictures behind you appear to have some textures added. Do you have any tutorials that show how to create or add grunge like textures to your photographs?

IMHO: I feel you complicate and confuse users about the question rather than making it easier to understand. i've been using both workflows for over a decade and should do my own video to answer this because it is far easier to understand if you show people hands on rather than rattle on for 20 minutes.. i can do it in 5 minutes and it's really quite simple on how to use the 2 workflows and not be confused as to which one to use at a given time or project. I am a photographer, print, web & video designer and use clearcut workflows for whatever client project I'm working on. i also teach classes in adobe photoshop, indesign, illustrator, and pdf print workflows, and can explain this in a far simpler and shorter fashion. Yes as you might be saying.. "well please do so then!" i will be coming out with an adobe cc workflow video by March 2019 to "put my money where my mouth is." sincerely, robert p.

I'd love to see that. Are you planning to have it up by the beginning or end of March? I'm kinda desperately looking for a media asset management solution that doesn't cost an arm and a leg. If Bridge is free, I may go with that. But I do really love LightRoom and all the free or open source programs are kinda crappy. So, I'm about ready to bite the bullet and go with the Adobe Photography Bundle for $9.99 per month. I don't have a lot of money, but that is less than eating out one fewer times per month. I can do that.
