- In 1991 the BBC produced and broadcasted a series on the worldwide influence of Irish Music. The Everly Brothers participated by playing wonderful renditions of the songs Rose Connolly (aka Down In The Willow Garden) and Don't Let Our Love Die.
I loved the Everlys in 1961, though it never occurred to me they might be more than superficial teenage heart-throbs. Then the Beatles arrived and like a fool, I dismissed Don and Phil as out of date. Never heard from them again until 2020, when by chance, I saw a UA-cam video of them from 1969. What a shock - they’d grown by then into smokin’ hot, fabulously handsome young men (especially Don) with immense talent. From then on, I played their YT videos and audios every day - still do - and read everything I can find about their lives. They’re fascinating…wonderfully creative musical legends and I’m absolutely crazy about them.
But I feel robbed. I missed the opportunity to see them live, and to appreciate them through the 1960s, 70s and beyond…. and I’m so sad, regretful and ashamed to have been one of the millions who deserted them when the ‘Brit invasion’ happened.
So for me, they’re still here with us, living on in UA-cam videos and through their records. Long live Don and Phil’s magical, unparalleled music. Love you both - but especially Don!
Strange that the English invasion by the Beatles, etc, halted the Everlys USA careers and, it was Britain and the rest of the world that held on to them as musical gods. Hence the choice of the Royal Albert Hall in London for their reunion concerts. For as Don said to the audience on the first night 'We knew you be here' 💕
My parents saw them in 1965 and I saw them 7 times throughout the 80s and 90s, even met them. There will never be another Everlys

Rest in Peace Don and Phil....
Liam O' Flynn blended in with the Uilleann pipes and you can see the appreciation from both brothers... the Irish roots show through lots of generations.
Two really down to earth guys none better so sad they are no longer with us RIP

I read the Everly had Irish ancestry and their name was originally O’Everly
