Nice video as always. Interesting take on this new launch. I’m curious to hit this club agains the other mini drivers launching with Titleist, Callaway and TM just to compare and put them all against my current 3W Ai Smoke which for me has been an easy to hit off the deck cannon. If this or any mini driver for that matter is giving me significant more distance, tighter dispersion I’m all in. This time of year is madness with all the new product launching
I had and enjoyed using the TM BRNR off the tee & the deck. It was stolen from my bag after one of my rounds late last year and I held off replacing it, knowing that there would be some new offerings from other OEMs . I saw this beauty on the conforming club database and noticed the adjustability improvements over the BRNR and Callaway mini driver. Just ordered the Secret Weapon a couple hours ago.
Done the video pal, launches extremely high due how G5 was weighted, off centre strikes are far different to centre strikes and spin is way too high, come back with some facts to back up these throw away comments 👍

Thanks for the video review Andy and the in-depth look. I enjoy my 0311 Gen5 and its adjustability. This looks even better. I’d suggest one more option and that would be a quicker way to swap weights, particularly from front to back. I’d like the CG forward off the tee and on the back end off the deck. Maybe PXG could develop something like a tongue depressor with a 5g weight on one end and a 15g weight on the other. After you rip your drive down the fairway with the 15g forward, you rotate or flip the weight stick so the 5g is forward and the 15g is back to help launch off the deck on your second shot. That would be sweet!
Like the review Andy. I love my BRNR but agree with launch characteristics being low/inconsistent for somebody like me who basically has the same speed as you. I have an autoflex coming for my brnr mini to hopefully increase launch/distance/swing speed and all of the other fun data parameters. Closest pxg to me is in Philadelphia, PA. Cold as hell in New Jersey 😞
This does look really interesting. I currently play a strong 3 as a driver replacement and I know I could use the adjustability in this head as well as the forgiveness of the extra CCs. The big downside is that it's even more expensive than the TM or Callaway options!
Enjoyed the review, and looks like a great club. My game just doesn't deserve that much $$ for a non-driver/putter club . . . but maybe I'll pick one up one day on the used market. No biggie, but I clicked on your merch link and the site didn't work for me. Looking forward to improved weather to see more travel videos. Keep on keepin' on!
Great video and grade club! I have the burner mini right now and I like it, although it is not really much use off the deck. This would be a great replacement which I would definitely give consideration if I can ever figure out a way to get it for a reasonable price.that’s going to be the inhibitive factor for many people
You’re definitely on to something here. The four adjustable weights means a custom fitter can adjust this club to precisely match your swing and really make it work for you both on and off the tee. Could replace driver and 3W, making the price less of an issue. I never played PXG, but kudos to them on this one.
You certainly hit it well off that mat, and you also got great results from the Taylormade Qi 35 3 Woods. It will be very interesting to see how it performs off the variable fairways lies and stances we get in the UK. I have the Callaway AI Smoke Mini Driver and haven’t hit a great one off the deck in 5 attempts so far 😂. The flatter profile of the PXG would give me more confidence.
Looks good and different to other current mini drivers. Updated tech aside it has some similarities in terms of head size to the 2014 Ping Rapture 13 degree 3 wood which had a RRP of £395 in 2014. It would make a good back to back test to see what 10 years of development has achieved. Shame Ping didn’t keep developing the Rapture.
exactly what I said above its alright being sponsored by PXG and receiving their products for free but I cannot afford to change my clubs every time a new suppose game improver hits the shelves, as soon as we hit January we are flooded with these new drivers new irons new wedges I only bought my new game improver irons last March. according to what I'm hearing there already outdated and under performing,
The worst driver I ever bought was a PXG gen 4 . The club I was given during the fitting was great , the club I ended up with was totally different in feel and had a clacky sound at impact . My 917 3 wood went basically the same distance. Ebayed it twice as both buyers returned it as it was also crap for them , in the end traded it to GCFC at a £200 loss . Great review. Just too pricey I’m afraid, certainly would look to replace my 3 wood for the secret weapon. Off the fairway would be epic.! Well done Andy
I am intrigued with this and will, in the near term, go to my PXG store to test it out. My thought is to replace the Driver and 3-Wood with the Secret Weapon and add another Hybrid. I am curious if you toyed with moving the weights around and the effect they have?
Great initial review and commentary. One frustration I do have with PXG though is they just changed up their shaft selection. I just got fitted for fairways (Nov and Dec) and was fitted into the Evenflow CB 60 shaft (Reg Flex). That shaft is not longer available and I don't really see a CB option now available. My guess is the Fujikara Motore X is the replacement (haven't seen that prior), but it now includes $100 (US) uncharge, which would put mini-driver back into driver price category. Maybe later in the year when I look at either replacing my old driver they will have a CB option. I really like the feel of the Evenflow and even replaced my current old driver with it to match all the shafts (old driver, new 4 and 7 Black Ops Fairway woods). I can see going with just the Mini-Driver as driver replacement since I don't hit driver that far (mid 80 to high 80 driver speed). My only other comment is I do not like the head cover and PXG's usage of the Skull. Maybe they can offer alternative skull-less head cover also (not an option on their putters since the skull is on the club itself -- I probably would lean to Oddessey Square to Square anyway if I replaced my current Oddessey putter).
@@TheAverageGolfer The Project X Hazardous is not offered for Regular Flex (it is present in Stiff Flex). The Motere X is in the spot on the list where the Evenflow was there just a week ago (on other clubs -- they updated their list of shafts on drivers and fairways with the addition of the Secret Weapon). I am somewhat used to upcharges, since with the irons (Gen 7 P's) that I was fitted for, the best shaft ended up being the Accra i7. It does however make me wonder if I need to go separately for a Taylor Made Qi35 and Callaway Elyte driver fitting also to since their price will be same as Black Ops Driver and possibly less (if Black Ops Driver + shaft uncharge if talking Driver vs Mini-Driver). I kind of like the idea of the mini driver and really like the adjustability that PXG offers. Both you, James Robinson and Chris D in your reviews of the Secret Weapon, all highlight the dual functionality. Being a short hitter, the mini-driver may be what is best to top out the bag and would fit with the 4 and 7 wood I have. I can then fill in between 7 wood and irons depending on if there is a gap there (currently carry my old 4 Hybrid which is similar distance to 7 wood but lower flight and still deciding on 5i vs my old 5 hybrid).
Again, like you said, it depends on what you're looking for. I feel the Callaway Mini driver fills the role of Mini driver best- 340cc head, deeper face, shorter shaft, an alternative tee shot club. Many average golfers shouldn't be considering 3 wood , as you have mentioned, let alone a stronger 3 wood. Looks interesting though
Andy, £500-£700 on a driver or a putter is outrageous (especially considering what they cost a few years ago). These may well be great clubs but they are well beyond the means of many 'average' golfers. It would be great to see you, or any of the other leading content creators start to call out the big manufacturers and lobby on our behalf for a better deal.
My understanding of business would be that a brand will charge what it feels a consumer is willing to pay, this price bracket has been around for the last 4-5 years and there doesn’t seem to be any indication of change. I think the job of the content creator is give a fair assessment of product and highlight the minuscule gains, if any, and consumers use some common sense and understand expectations of new v old product 👍
I love the adjustability of this club and many of the pxg woods and hybrids in general, but only if I used a mini as my one and only driver/wood would I be tempted. I'd need to get comfortable hitting this off the deck regularly to be useful..otherwise I'd just prefer a shorter shafted 460 head and a 5 wood. But I am already lamenting the growing expenses of golf and shrinking of my discretionary income, so it's just my humble opinion. If I got free stuff to test from manufacturers, admittedly I know I would have a mini and a custom LAB putter and a new driver and irons every year. 😂 I am a shameless gear head and DIY tinkerer, so my love of golf (and long winters with access to online shopping) can feel more like a dangerous addiction. lol
Hey PXG. Make a 460 cc driver with a 42 inch shaft. Adjustable from 14-10 degrees. Take the 18 grams needed to bring the swingweight up and make your 10k driver into a 12k driver
I definitely wouldn't consider it to replace my driver as I really love my driver but I think as a second club in the bag on tight powers I don't carry a three wood. I go driver then 17 hybrid. hmmmmm
I'm not certain I understand how this is different than a 3 wood. Loft and length are similar. Theoretical carry is similar. Help me out here! Love your channel!
I do think it is only separated by data such as launch far lower (different ball flight) from the tee, more like a driver and ball speeds more equal to driver than 3 wood and then the profile is about personal choice I suppose, the way I see it the more options open to the consumer the better.
The real question is whether this is merely a modern interpretation of an old fashioned 2 wood or a new club. I am not against the 2w, I played an old hand me down 2w in my teens (a few decades have passed since then!). Loft wise, this is the same as a 2w. Shaft length is about the same, certainly within 0.5". My memory is probably failing but the mini-driver looks a bigger head than the old style 2 woods. The face is definitely shallower than I remember for a 2w. Off the deck was a revelation, I would never have attempted that with an old style 2w. I do not care what you call it, this is a very good club that more club golfers should try.
@@justinstephenson9360 there are without doubt a lot of similarities but the main difference is the ability to launch from the tight lie, not had on course yet so interesting to see if same performance
@@TheAverageGolfer I had a PXG Gen5 2-wood that I was fitted for by PXG. My swing has been slowing down just a bit over the last several years to the point that I could not get consistent results with my 2-wood. The 2-wood no longer has a space in my bag. Maybe this new PXG Mini-Driver is better?
How to you begin to understand the mindset of ‘most people’? I understand if you don’t want to buy a PXG club due to reselling it, but surely you can’t be aware of ‘most peoples’ thought process, if you are then you are extremely talented 👏👏
Great review. However, I disagree with your assessment of previous mini drivers. I have the Callaway 340 Ti and the TM Burner and I hit them both off the tee and the deck - no problem. Absolute weapons.
I must confess that although have been able to achieve with both I had very inconsistent results with ability to launch the ball, but you are right they are weapons
I can launch that Callaway off the fairway. I play driver, mini driver, and 16.5 fairway. The mini driver is my second serve club off the tee and go-to club off the fairway on par 5s. A great addition to the bag. My favorite stick in the bag.
@TheAverageGolfer as you may know, I am a big pxg fan. I have their gen-6 driver but wouldn't mind upgrading in another year or so. I also play their 0211 irons and absolutely love them. I received two dozen pxg balls for christmas, so can't wait to get out and test those as well
I’m confused. Your other videos say don’t play the 3 wood because it’s difficult to get up in the air from the fairway. A three wood is 15 degrees and yet this mini driver is 13 degrees and has a longer shaft.
Well if you apply some common sense you may not be as confused my friend 👍 let me try and simplify, all clubs are not for all people, different content is for different people with differing abilities surely you can work that out?
I use a mini driver on and off if I’m not hitting the ball well, or playing a tighter course. AVERAGE - It’s not much shorter than my actual driver, but it’s so much more controlled. Definitely not as easy to hit from the deck as a fairway, but seriously worth the trial for inconsistent ball strikers.
$900 aud. Ridiculous. I trialled one. I got 25 metres more than my 2 hybrid. The minister for war and finance would have my balls hanging from the fence as a trophy.
this club is £429.00 retail, golf is getting more innovated with new idea's and yet at the same time more expensive, excuse the punt but can the average golfer keep up with these ever changing game changers? it seems as soon as one new product is produced it's quickly succeeded by a newer one which is the new game improver and must have club, mini drivers have been introduced in the past but do the pros have these in their bags, I for one refuse to be drawn into this or to believe the hype for people like yourself its a no brainer where as you received clubs from PXG but without your sponsorship could you really afford to change clubs every time a new set come out.

Just wait till titleist bring theirs out !!
What is the difference between this and a brassie(2 wood)
looking forward to get mini next Thursday flying in from malta for my fitting
Good for you pal, hope it goes well, enjoy the trip
@@TheAverageGolfer thank you Andy the boys at PXG London is doing a great job we should get you for a weekend to malta
@@carlzachhau8516 sounds good, never visited and looks a lovely country
Hey PXG.
Make a 460 cc driver with a 42 inch shaft. Adjustable from 14-10 degrees.
Take the 18 grams needed to bring the swingweight up and make your 10k driver into a 12k driver
Don't give them any ideas. 😂
I definitely wouldn't consider it to replace my driver as I really love my driver but I think as a second club in the bag on tight powers I don't carry a three wood. I go driver then 17 hybrid. hmmmmm
What shaft was you using?
Didn't you get the same numbers with the latest TM 3 wood this week ?
What shaft were you using in that PXG Secret Weapon? Flex?
Hi can I ask what shaft weight, and flex you had .
Does PXG make these in left hand ?
I'm not certain I understand how this is different than a 3 wood. Loft and length are similar. Theoretical carry is similar. Help me out here! Love your channel!
I do think it is only separated by data such as launch far lower (different ball flight) from the tee, more like a driver and ball speeds more equal to driver than 3 wood and then the profile is about personal choice I suppose, the way I see it the more options open to the consumer the better.
Would a Senior golfer ( low swing speed) benefit with this ?
@@AwlDeigh I don’t see why not but the correct shaft would be important
Hard to tell but it seems like you didn’t have to tilt much off the tee?
Things i like on this channel
1. The reviews
2. The presentation
3. The way idiots are dealt with by Andy in the comments section
Much appreciated 🙏
Seems a nice club ,but most people dont want to take a chance on pxg ,reselling them is tough
How to you begin to understand the mindset of ‘most people’? I understand if you don’t want to buy a PXG club due to reselling it, but surely you can’t be aware of ‘most peoples’ thought process, if you are then you are extremely talented 👏👏
As one that struggles with a regular driver, I wouldn’t be able to hit a 43.75” 3 wood either.
That is beautiful
@ impressive stuff tbf 👏
Love this mini driver offering from PXG. Just wish it wasn't nearly $500.
Yep all clubs see to be at a premium right now
PXG kills it again!
@@deanmacko6926 this is impressive and the Black Ops line up is 🔥
@TheAverageGolfer as you may know, I am a big pxg fan. I have their gen-6 driver but wouldn't mind upgrading in another year or so. I also play their 0211 irons and absolutely love them. I received two dozen pxg balls for christmas, so can't wait to get out and test those as well
@ I’d love to get out and test anything right now!! Snow everywhere
@@TheAverageGolfer There was me thinking your target audience is the average golfer.
@ Next week I review Mizuno JPX Tour irons……as we always have done…..and for the record the channel isn’t ‘the average handicap golfer’ is it?
@@TheAverageGolfer Now I’m really confused.
Nice PXG golf hat they gave you…
He wears a hat that matches the club he is reviewing
I got rid of my driver and got a mini driver and man let me tell you, I hit that thing futher and straighter .
@@garethlloyd9828 same as my own findings bud
Comparable to Cleveland Hy-Wood
I agree, it's the price of these clubs,it's getting ridiculous
Has the £500 driver not been a thing for the past 3 years?? Or maybe more?
But this is technically a 3 wood,
@ oh right ok get ya, so you are saying this is an expensive 3 wood 👍
How much????
Lol still on the fairway 😂 it's st Andrews 1/18 😂
Taylormade mini or the secret weapon?
PXG is sure proud of it. Like 500?
You can get it for 349.00
$900 aud. Ridiculous. I trialled one. I got 25 metres more than my 2 hybrid. The minister for war and finance would have my balls hanging from the fence as a trophy.
Funny how today's mini drivers are the same size as the drivers of 20 years ago.
Yes I agree and probably why I like them 😂
I PREFER the deep 34CCs of the
A. I. Mini Smoke Callaway
Only issue is the name
£429 for a strong 3 wood, give me a break!!!! buy a good used driver for £200 and get some lessons
this club is £429.00 retail, golf is getting more innovated with new idea's and yet at the same time more expensive, excuse the punt but can the average golfer keep up with these ever changing game changers? it seems as soon as one new product is produced it's quickly succeeded by a newer one which is the new game improver and must have club, mini drivers have been introduced in the past but do the pros have these in their bags, I for one refuse to be drawn into this or to believe the hype for people like yourself its a no brainer where as you received clubs from PXG but without your sponsorship could you really afford to change clubs every time a new set come out.
I perhaps think tune in more often because nobody is suggesting you buy anything Gary, I couldn’t care less if you use hickory clubs it really makes no difference to me, the idea of any review video is to analyse a products performance and report findings the rest is up to you, so please refrain from referring to hype from people like me 👍
@@TheAverageGolfer I think you completely lost what I was saying £429.00 for a club, where are the cheaper alternative's which in some cases are just as good? more affordable to the average golfer, this club will never improve a 28 handicapper like any £500 driver would your review did hype this club up with its impressive figures but as for the hickory's I'll that review when PXG decide to make em.as for me I missed them as I wasn't old enough
@ this comment is now completely different point to your first? 🤷♂️
And as for this ‘hype’ I read out figures that were impressive, that’s a fact not hype 👍
@@TheAverageGolfer no it was headlined the price? the majority of golfers simply cannot keep up with these changes and ever increasing cost I read a lot of the review's and there were so many that were concerned about the price, this club next year will be replaced by a newer model and the need to upgrade will be felt, where on earth does this all stop.
Way to expensive and the TM out performs it, if you cant hit the brnr off the deck you cant hit anything.
Hi Andy didnt the TM Tour 3 wood that you loved performed slightly better distance wise , i think you termed it as a monster or similar
Biggest waste of space in a golf bag - mini drivers!
Too much $
£430 Because it has a few adjustable weights? I'd rather just spend a week at the range and learn to hit my clubs properly. Their's a reason manufacturers moved away from so much adjustability in woods.
Amongst all the nonsense on this comment I love the fact you can learn to hit clubs properly in a week 😂😂👏👏 quality
These are just ads for PXG. So much for unbiased reviews.
