Dude I thought it was going to be like the 335i where u can cut off the air box grommet and slide the alternator off without having to all this but then I realized I couldn’t and now I found this video and it has sealed my doom.

There should be no need to hit the alternator with a mallet lol. Should slide right in. Also, I had the intake manifold loose and if I slid it almost all the way off the mounting bolts (about 2 in off the engine block) I could slide the alternator out under it by sliding it out towards the firewall instead of towards the radiator without removing the oil filter housing. I did have all wiring disconnected from the manifold and charge pipe and throttle body removed. This was with a 2011 335i. Hope that helps!

This is helpful! One thing, when I did my oil filter housing gasket was to tape the exposed open ports so no debris falls down the oil passages and clogs something causing oil starvation to a crank or rod bearing or cam. where did you get the alternator from?

Did mine by taking off the ac compressor. 100% easier

went to a shop thinking my pulleys or my belt were bad, and he told me it was my alternator what was making a weird clicking noise. do you think its an easy diy ? thinking as well of doing my OFGH and Oil cooler gasket at the same time since im already in there. But thank you for this video literally no one has one up.

nicocracks its really not a hard diy , more or less just time consuming. If you have some experience working on your car I would say go for it! Yes absolutely take care if the ofhg and ocg , you will be pulling them out anyway. Also if you are doing your belt and pulleys, make sure to inspect the power steering pump pulley bracket bolts. I had one of mine back out and the other 2 wiggle loose. It was causing me to shred belts and I couldn’t figure out why. Just look out for that as well

Should be able to remove the skid plate, remove the banjo bolt holding the power steering line, then you can remove the 3 AC compressor bolts, and then you can remove the bracket that holds the alternator. that way you don't have to worry about draining the oil and coolant and removing the intake manifold
