Thank you for your wonderful video great video Elvis in Louisville, Kentucky. Then and Now: Elvis Back on Tour look forword more cool video Elvis on tour
I was there, 13 years old . I remember the songs Elvis sang, the introductions he made and the moment he asked they bring the house lights up that feeling of being in the same room with Elvis Presley. He passed the next year my heart broke. Thank you for this content
My home town and have been to many events there over the years. Unfortunately I was born 2 years after Elvis died so I never got to see him but my mom amd dad were going to go to his concert there in May of 77 but he couldn't get off work. They thought they'd just go when he was coming back in September but we all know what happened on Aug 16th and the tour that never happened. So unfortunately my mom and dad never got to see Elvis live either.
I used to go to see the Kentucky Colonels basketball games at Freedom Hall, and my second Yes Concert was at Freedom Hall in 1977. I also saw the Harlem Globetrotters at Freedom Hall as well. And I do remember April 3, 1974, when the tornado hit the top of Freedom Hall and then crossed over I-65 and done serious damage in the Louisville area. Thanks for sharing this timeless history of Elvis Presley playing at Freedom Hall in Louisville, Kentucky.
Great video!! It's always interesting to hear the back story of all these concert venues that Elvis performed in. Glad to see it's still being put to good use, rather than being torn down! Thanks for sharing with us!!!
Saw Elvis twice in this venue, July 76 and May 77. Had to camp out overnight in the parking lot across the street in order to be first in line to buy tickets.
The building looks nothing like it did when Elvis performed there. Been there too many times to count. Back then, it was one continuous layer of seats with support beams(sat behind one) giving obscured views. They were all seats, no bleachers, and I can't remember if they were cushioned like today or hard plastic. I was there for 1983 NCAA 1st round right before remodel. They added a 2nd level and luxury boxes, and I think cushioned seating. The best arena to see a basketball game I've ever been in of that size. They don't get concerts there anymore, except for the State Fair. They are booked in the YUM Center downtown with the upper level, so steep if you fell, you would fall forever.
Elvis’ grandfather (Jesse) and step grandmother also lived in Louisville. They are buried in the same cemetery as my grandparents/step grandparent (Louisville Memorial Gardens West) in a southwest suburb city of Shively #funfacts
Can’t count how many concerts I saw there. Especially in the late seventies. Bad Company, Led Zeppelin, Pink Floyd, Alice Cooper, ZZ Top, Aerosmith, Ted Nugent, Foghat, and on, and on. Great times.
Hey guys...Cool channel. I was only four years of age when my parents took me with them to see Elvis at The Omni in Atlanta, Ga, 1976. It would be Elvis' last concert in Georgia. The only memory I can recall is my dad holding me on his shoulders to see. That's it unfortunately, because at four you're not quite as cognizant as you will become within the next year and beyond. But, at least I can say I shared air space with Elvis Fn Presley. haaha Have you been to Atlanta to see this location? Because the Omni was demolished in July of 1997. I have great memories there from childhood to adulthood. I even got to say hello to Robert Plant there in 1995.
It definitely looked different when Elvis sang there. It went from the floor seats all the way up to the top with just a mid-way, walk-way aisle, between the lower and upper stations. There was no overlapping of seating tiers. I always thought it looked bigger in the old design. I was born and raised in Louisville, and every year in HS, in the early/mid 70s, all the schools in Louisville gathered every year for a choral performance at Freedom Hall. The only song I remember, that left such an impression on me, was we always sang, every year, "The Battle Hymn of the Republic". I especially loved the part where the guys sang, "in the beauty of the lillies, Christ was born across the sea, with a glory in his bosom that transfigures you and me. As he died to make men holy, let us die to make men free. While God is marching on!" They started singing it tender and soft, and then were belting it out by the time they got to "while God is marching on! At the end of the song, we sang "amen" several times and the notes got higher and higher. Being a soprano, it took everything you had to hit that last high note! I wish we had a recording of it. It was so fun to sing with such a large group and the acoustics in that building sounded spectacular! Also, every year, they had what was called "Toys for Tots". This is where multiply performing bands would play a concert for hours on end. I remember seeing the Buckingham's, the group that sang "Judy in Deguise", and many more! To gain entrance to the concert, you had to bring a new toy for a child. The toys were given to needy children in the community at Christmas time. I will always have such fond memories of Freedom Hall. ❤ PS: Never got to see Elvis. Tickets were sold out in a matter of hours! If you didn't stand in line, camping out all night, you couldn't get a ticket. I remember the news always showing the long lines as people waited. I've been to Graceland, just went last year, and it is a must see! I miss Elvis!
Looks somewhat small and doesn't show 18000+ seats as a single tier (no upper balcony) venue. But maybe the pitch is bigger so the building has larger overall dimensions? (Read in one article the venue held 13K)
