Sairam.. If you are in meditation mode than the longer one is more suitable, since it prepares you for Meditation. For regular Japa, the shorter/popular vision is ideal.
Namaste... Thank you for your comment. I'm not aware of a book that deals with this subject in depth. The best way to understand Gayatri is to experience it's energy first hand - by chanting it regularly. Nothing comes close to the understanding that arises through first hand experience 🙏
