@Andy Salter The neck pickup sounds warmer/darker, the sound on the neck pickup usually has more bottom end (or low mids?). Also, many neck pickups have a different attack: still very snappy, but with a slight...wobble to the notes (not being muddy in any way, it's weird to explain). I'm pretty sure it's recognizable to most people.
I always use the riff at 1:05 as a hand synchronization exercise, really good for getting your alternate picking tight. Also that guitar is sexy as hell.
Came here after watching Tobi Morelli's play through of "The Lucid Collective Somnambulation". It amazes me that there are even two people that can play Archspire songs on guitar ha
True Musicians don’t “Give up” when they see someone play like this Gentleman. A True Musician is inspired by it and is driven to surpass it. Dean, you and all the members in Archspire are a great inspiration. Please never stop kicking ass!!!
Very incredible cover of an amazing song, you definitely sounded sick! also seemed like you hit every single note flawlessly. I liked it thanks for the share
I didn't buy their albums for a long time because I didn't like the vocal style and how it matches up with the beat and shit, it seemed like it lacked fluidity. However I ended up buying them both recently and I really like the band. Turns out the vocalist is really fucking good, at many vocals, he just does the whole lining it up thing here and there (the second album has more range which makes it better to me). The second album I like the best. Really good album, should've bought it earlier. Anyway, non sequitur aside, sick video and actually playing it, in one take, is always great to watch.
There are certain parts of our songs that I NEED to be on a certain pickup, and I find myself constantly checking to make sure. I also do switch pickups a lot (not so much in this song however,) so I just always double check. Weird habit.
I see why you would ask that,Kiesel are custom guitars, if you wanted it to have a profile of another instrument ,they would accommodate you ,I'm sure Dean isn't thinking about Ibanez, I think Ibanez has improved ,mostly because of competition from builder's like Kiesel .
Yeah I always check my pickup selection, it's become a habit. We play with in-ears live, so the difference is so glaringly obvious to me, I have become pretty particular about it. It's not a vader, it's a K-series 8 string :)
Those are Kiesel's own pickups right? They're so god damn tight and punchy jesus christ. Definitely need to check them out. Thanks for the playthrough of my favorite song by you guys.
But Dean plays an 8, and this is Dean's channel. He mentioned it in that same video, but I'm drawing a blank. He either had it as standard or the 8th was dropped.
This song is in f# standard tuning, I tune down to drop E for "Rapid Elemental Dissolve," and three songs on the album we just recorded but haven't released.
+Sean Chan I use it more on the newest material for sure. it's a tough instrument, to get the clarity of the lowest string is sometimes tough. but the Kiesel guitars I'm playing are so good that I've started using it more lately.
Is 4/4 technical death a fair description of this kind of tech death... ? asking for a friend... I know they have not 4/4 sections... but the greatest sections are 4/4
How can a simple human come up with so much riffs idea for one song? I should practice more but every single time i pick my guitar to jam some random riffs .. it ends up being the same over and over again xD
Learn a tonne of songs, most in the style you'd like to write, and some in completely different styles you enjoy. You'll eventually have a solid understanding of what combinations result in what styles/sounds, and writing will become almost effortless (though coming up with real good stuff can take a while). It also helps to have an understanding of keys and never discard anything that sounds good, and find a way to catalogue riffs/licks by keys (guitar pro files, recordings etc), and eventually enough will mesh to write a song.
@@DeanLamb They're absolutely wrong, i watch solely your playthroughs daily and its improved my playing dramatically so on behalf of anyone else that's learned from you and that beautiful fucking bald head: THANK YOU ♥
For some reason it's always wayyyy more satisfying to watch play throughs than to just straight listen to the track in techdeath
Yeah just makes you appreciate it more
For some reason you are right
because you play guitar mabye????!?
@@neonblack211 yes lol
@@neonblack211 I don't but I kinda agree
Drinking Game: every time Dean touches his pickup selector switch... drink.

What you got
Also the volume knob! =)

If I have one word to describe this band it's
*EUGH!*
2:23 Wow. So simple yet so beautiful.
I always use the riff at 1:05 as a hand synchronization exercise, really good for getting your alternate picking tight.
Also that guitar is sexy as hell.
James Moran same here dude lol
That riff looks like it would fuck my fingers up.. I should probably practice that too
thanks found a great exercise cause of this currently 97 bpm only 46 to go to tempo
Necrophagist worship. Love it
I struggle with my pinky lmao. I thought my pinky was solid, until I started playing archspire riffs. The alternate picking part isn’t bad though.
It gave me anxiety the amount of times Dean made sure his pick up selector was in the right place. I wish I was this good. Amazing playing.
2:20 Death solo omfg
Came here after watching Tobi Morelli's play through of "The Lucid Collective Somnambulation". It amazes me that there are even two people that can play Archspire songs on guitar ha
Hahahahah yeah Tobi killed that playthrough.
1:51 Even powerchords sounds cool and stylish as fuck when it being played by Dean.
For those guitarists interested, I've started uploading lesson packages to my bandcamp site ( Deanlamb.Bandcamp.com )
Go check them out!
Thanks!
Dean Lamb could someone go from a total noobs into a guitar god from these instructions?
It dosent matter what the instructions are, if you can´t play it you can´t. And the other way around.
It´s about percistanse and the WILL to learn

Great job. I used to have the OCD of selector switch/volume pot fondling as well. haha
I think I found my problem; I don't check the pickup selector nearly enough!
LOL
Cannot now be unseen!!!
Lmao
Damn. What were you thinking. 😂
I'm so glad you did a play through for this Dean! This is one of my favourite tracks from you guys, now I can easier tab it out.
Amazing man! 8 strings is everything
God damn, that guitar is beautiful. Also, badass playthrough!
Literally my favourite Archspire song.
This is amazing
God, this is mixed well 👀🔥
Yeah. I offically do NOT know how to play guitar anymore. Lol
me too! 😂🤣
Their second album - my favorite! 🎉
Génial!!! Fantastique!!!
Amazing job!
I’ve been playing guitar for 16 years and I’m not even close to being this good. Excellent job dude 🤟🏼
@Коля Пивоваров lol
Good Lord this shreds! Also your K8 is a thing of beauty
Thanks!
Feel a lot of spheres of madness inspiration. And I fucking love it
Fine, man. Dope riffs and solos.
shit man 1 take no editing. so clean. amazing.
Man that guitar is one of the sexiest pieces of wood I've ever seen... awesome song too, great vid all around
Amazing
Sick shit my brother, excited to see you in London!
Excellent! we need more that thuff :)

How to be this clean? I'm amazed ...

What did I win?

nice! what is the top wood that is on your Kiesel?
yeah I didn't even see him changing his pick up selector until about half way through. holy shit
BESTIAL
Amazing performance.
Btw, what string gauges you use here? At first I'd assume EB 2624 (09-80), but bends and vibrato look pretty effortless for you.
This is a super cool play through! See ya on discord again sometime!
Great song. hearing death -sepultura riffs between 2.20 - 2.26 \m/
Man I want to make volume and tone pots that never stop spinning and call them the dean lamb edition
Fuck yeah 🤘

Hell yeah. You can actually hear the instrument unlike a lot of people. haha love this song. does Tobi play the solo that you didn't?
He sure does :)
I've been using my left arm for muff grabbing exercises from the wife. Trying to get that solid forearm endurance. She's very understanding.
AAAAAAAaaaaa I love you
It's funny how at 0:12 and 3:57 you're reaching for the pickup selector switch.
There are certain parts of our songs that I NEED to be on a certain pickup, and I find myself constantly checking to make sure. I also do switch pickups a lot (not so much in this song however,) so I just always double check. Weird habit.
How do you like the kiesel necks compared to the ibbys?
I see why you would ask that,Kiesel are custom guitars, if you wanted it to have a profile of another instrument ,they would accommodate you ,I'm sure Dean isn't thinking about Ibanez, I think Ibanez has improved ,mostly because of competition from builder's like Kiesel .
What's the significance of picking so high on the neck at that one trem picked part?
It looks like he is tapping with his pick there.
Imagine writing this I’d be so proud of myself
I only wrote some of it, it was a group effort :)
You like to make sure that the bridge pick up is selected, I just noticed you touch the selector every time there's a brake. Is that a Vader btw?
Yeah I always check my pickup selection, it's become a habit. We play with in-ears live, so the difference is so glaringly obvious to me, I have become pretty particular about it.
It's not a vader, it's a K-series 8 string :)
0:39 Human murmuration bridge riff
It seems like they like using that kinda riff i hear it in a lot of their songs. It's badass though
Riff at 1:09 reminds me of spawn of possession song
what kiesel guitar model is this?
what the tune this guitar?
Those are Kiesel's own pickups right? They're so god damn tight and punchy jesus christ. Definitely need to check them out. Thanks for the playthrough of my favorite song by you guys.
Yeah they're the Kiesel Lithium pickups, they sound great!
I would learn how to play this song but i don't play guitar, but maybe on trombone
#STAYTECH..!!
I follow you on instagram and I love you're short clips, but this just made me wanna play more ❤ -Itzmatthewzz
U change the selector with every pair of strings? :-) Nice job anyway, respect!
This song I have developed a ridiculous habit for checking and changing pickups. Don't ask why. ;)
Have to touch the pickup switch after the end of every bar
@deanlamb I like this song
Me too!
@@DeanLamb Hi Dean!
1:48 is that tapping with pick or tremolo picking.
Booooottttthhhhhh ;)
He basically tremolos with his pick against the fretboard so the string is pressed down by the pick before he fully strums it
1:40 is that really fast trem on the neck or crazy fast tapping?
RenTec looks like pick tapping to me
@@joshuahb536 thank you!! I've been trying to figure out the name so I can learn more about it
Tobi (The other archspire guitarist) came up with that technique as far as I know. We call it "hyper-picking"
👌👍🍕
what guitar he is playing in this video?
its a K series but you can get a very similar model in the DCM8
Whens the next album??!!
Would love to listen to the instrumentals!
Yeah I hate Oli as well!
Dean Lamb for reals bro. We need them instrumentals. of all your albums. Anyways good shit man!
I just have feelings that Dean's brains are programmed and each riff rest is copied from one before that had an automatization for a pickup switch.
What the actual fuck 🤘
Is that a good reaction or a bad reaction? Lol
Can anyone tell me what tuning he is using?? I can't find it online or anything
B standard, Tobi mentions it in an interview
But Dean plays an 8, and this is Dean's channel. He mentioned it in that same video, but I'm drawing a blank. He either had it as standard or the 8th was dropped.
This song is in f# standard tuning, I tune down to drop E for "Rapid Elemental Dissolve," and three songs on the album we just recorded but haven't released.
+Dean Lamb you don't seem to use your 8th string extensively on Archspire songs do you? Or maybe it's just too subtle I can't pick it out :p
+Sean Chan I use it more on the newest material for sure. it's a tough instrument, to get the clarity of the lowest string is sometimes tough. but the Kiesel guitars I'm playing are so good that I've started using it more lately.
