      @@beyourselfth I would sday its focus is not to be scary, no. Other tactic to scare wolves: if you don't have a torch/bengal, or a weapon like the revolver, use a rock as a last resort. A head-shot with a rock also scares them.

    • @simonnachreiner8380
      @simonnachreiner8380 2 місяці тому +2

      It's actually a lot more than a last resort. Using a rock is actually better than a revolver for self defense. Using a revolver on a charging wolf won't scare it so you need two shots to secure the kill. However a single rock hitting the wolf on the head (a fairly easy task mid charge) will always scare a wolf long enough to break the charge. It doesn't last long enough to break agro entirely but it's more than enough to break a struggle.

  • @Tomato_Dragonzord

    About sprinting at wolves. I wait a bit until they stop and start growling at me. And then I don't run at them all the way. All I need is a short movement. I sprint less than a meter forward and it has always worked so far if I'm not encumbered or with sprains. This also reduces a risk of getting into a struggle.

    • @Seriously_Unserious
      @Seriously_Unserious 2 роки тому +6

      Good point. You can also toss the lit torch or flare in front of the wolf, and it'll have much the same effect, with even less risk of getting charged and will also work on demoralizing timberwolves. Though with those your best bet is a marine flare as the normal flares have a very small AOE compared to marine flares and reduce their morale from the toss method then the marine flares do. If you are up against timberwolves, be aware that throwing the flare disarms yourself and other timberwolves may take advantage, also be aware that if you run or walk directly at a timberwolf and it does not get scared (ie by a lit flare/marine flare) then you can get into a full wolf struggle with a timberwolf. Those are tougher then a struggle with a normal wolf, but if you win, can knock down the pack's morale by as much as nearly half. But you may have taken bleeding wounds or sprains and lost a lot of your own cnd too, so may be left more vulnerable to the rest of the pack if their morale didn't break after that sruggle.

    • @leeharveyoslik
      @leeharveyoslik 2 роки тому +13

      Use any weapon (even a stone will do) to scare the wolves away. When you are holding a lit torch just approach a wolf then hit a weapon draw button. Your character will drop a torch on the ground and draw a weapon. Aiming weapon at wolf while having a lit torch on the ground will scare wolf away. No chance of getting into fight.

    • @Seriously_Unserious
      @Seriously_Unserious 2 роки тому +6

      @@leeharveyoslik The same also works for lit flares, marine flares and campfires. Just be careful of aurora wolves, they can sometimes ignore fear and attack anyways. I've had them charge when you'd never expect it normally.

    • @Tomato_Dragonzord
      @Tomato_Dragonzord 2 роки тому +1

      Sprinting method is a bit faster (doesn't make much difference, but it's perfect if you have low patience). And on top of that, it's really satisfying to intimidate a wolf like that.
      By the way. Yesterday I tried this without realizing I'm encumbered. Obviously it didn't work but because I only did a very short sprint, it didn't get me into a struggle either.

      I'm still fairly new at this game, but on Stalker I've always just waited for the wolf to stop because of the torch, then walked (not sprinted) towards it until it yelps. So far the wolf has never failed to turn and run away. Every other tip has always resulted in the wolf picking a random direction to flee, which has got me mauled a few times when it came towards me!

It took a lot of wood but i have managed to lvl.5 at day 5. Works best at the HydroDamm Another Tip .. if you are at lvl.5 cooking you can eat everything except raw meat. That jerry can tip is genius. The stamina depleting when looting is pretty weird. They should definitely patch that.

    • @Seriously_Unserious
      @Seriously_Unserious 2 роки тому +41

      You actually don't need a jerry can to get lamp oil from cooking fish, that happens no matter what (assuming you don't burn the fish to a crisp that is). If you don't have a jerry can, the game will just spawn a small lamp oil bottle (the kind that hold up to 0.5 kilos and have the "ever-flame" label.

    • @dominikkuzila
      @dominikkuzila 2 роки тому +27

      @@Seriously_Unserious Yeah you're right. But I mean the weight efficiency. With the same amount of oil the jerry can weighs less than the lamp oil container. I never thought of utilizing that when fishing :D

    • @Seriously_Unserious
      @Seriously_Unserious 2 роки тому +12

      @@dominikkuzila The main issue I find with the jerry cans is they hold so much (up to 4 liters) that the weight adds up to too much for many situations. Yeah, 4 liters in a single jerry can may weigh less then 4 liters spread across 8 little cans, but the differnce maker is with the jerry can, you're forced to carry all 4 liters all at once, or nothing. With the 8 small cans, you can carry only as much as you really need, and in most cases, 1 or 2 little cans is sufficient to keep your lamp going. The jerry cans I tend to stow away at a base and carry them if transporting the oil to a new region (where I'll store it at that region's base) or that's the only container of oil I have and I don't need to worry about being put over weight.
      This becomes an issue especially when you're travelling to a region only accessible by rope climb, or within a region where major portions of the region are only accessible via rope climb. EG, you can only reach the upper portions of Timberwolf Mountain by rope climb.

    I usually watch these tip videos mostly to giggle to myself when I happen to know them all, but this was surprisingly insightful. From the 10 of these I really knew about 2 and kind of guestimated maybe 3 more. Funnily enough the torch charge I figured by a complete accident when I got once fed up with being assaulted by about 6 of them in the muskeg, so I just charged them while yelling IRL in my seat like a madman. and upon attempting to science it has a chance of working even against a bear! Though out of 40 or so attempts it worked 3 times, so I would never recommend doing it on purpose, more like desperate ditch effort when you are about to die.

    Speaking of jerrycans donno why is it really useful cos cooking fish gives you new pack of fuel for lanterns anyways soooo why someone even need the cans ?
    And about quartering actually is it not makes your tool lose more % while stop-start-stop-start ? Even if so it could be useful anyways but I should test it tho now

    • @Zaknafein
      @Zaknafein  2 роки тому +1

      Thank you! Jerry Cans weigh less than the packs you get, but have little purpose beyond it. On my long runs I refill them just to make refilling lanterns easier upon returning to the base. Quartering may result in more %tool use, but can also result in more leveling up up the harvesting skill. It can be useful when the kill happened in the open, so you can move the stuff elsewhere.

    I think they should fix some of these tricks. For example, you shouldn't be able to to use the placement ability to keep a torch lit through a waterfall. Nor should you be able to keep your gear dry unless you have a waterproof hide or the add some kind of waterproof dry bag. Same issue with despawning jerry cans (it shouldn't), using clothes to pass time, etc.
    It's clever to find these tricks but they really are things that should be fixed when discovered.

Just to answer a future question some might have I drop the full ones prior to filling the lanterns because if you don't they will pull the oil from ANY bottle so you could end up having even more partial bottles than you started with lol.

    Wow, I've been playing TLD for years and every single one of these was new to me. My longest running world is a 430+ day Interloper world and some of these might help me get to the big 5-0-0!

      Dang, I had already found out about most of these insights on my own and only two of these tips were new to me - but the longest I survived was for sixty-one days. Kinda ironic

      I've got a 220 day(+) Pilgrim save I load just for the relaxation of wandering about without needing torch / weapon-aiming strats for wolfie-bois, and having an absolutely ridiculous pile of candy bars, beef jerky, ketchup chips and Salty Crackers on the counter of Mystery Lake's Camp Office. ☻

    My dad played kingdom come and when playing the archery mini game it removes your crosshair while aiming, so he taped a mimic crosshair made of paper to the origin of the tv and it worked every time.

    When I first started playing TLD I went a long time using an awful mouse in which I could not right click or scroll -- left click only! Imagine the pain! Yet I still fell in love with the game.
    Except trying to shoot a stupid gun. Because I couldn't aim with the revolver I would have to just spam from the hip and hope I hit something. Really wish I knew this trick then!
    Now I have a super nice gaming mouse =) Possibly one of the nicest things I own! So many buttons!

      The hot keys are fixed in the game. For an emergency, the only two that matters is 1 (light source) and 2 (weapon) on the keyboard.

    1000 hours into the game, enjoyed this video as hell, even though some of the tips seem pretty useless ^^ For instance cabin fever will get worse if you continue passing time indoors, so it's only postponing the issue

    Keep it up with these kinds of videos. I really like that they range from just pure logical things like the clothes and the waterfall to more cheesy stuff like the "aim assist". I for one really find these kinds of tips. Both interesting and helpful!
