- [NOTE: This video is only the first 11 minutes of the full lesson, please visit my website to purchase complete version] This lesson consists of providing you with a Self-Tutorial on what is algebra, what are variables, constants, coefficients, terms, and expressions. The tutor explains the use of proper notation, how to combine like terms, find the negation of an algebraic expression, how to evaluate an expression (by hand and by using your calculator), and finally, there is a VERY detailed section on how to translate English phrases into algebraic expressions.
Audio is in Mono, not stereo. Old Mic. Sorry. You will need to adjust your PCs audio to hear. New videos will be in Stereo.
You don't look or speak like the typical "drone" algebra teachers I have seen in the past! Without the monotonous voice you make it easier to understand a dry subject! Congratulations on catching my attention and teaching me something!
One of the best Algebra online classes. The instructor is actually interesting.
Sorry for the mono sound. At time of recording, I did not have a stereo mic. New videos will use a studio quality stereo mic. Not sure what you mean by "You have no idea what you are talking about." As a pro math tutor, I can assure you I most definitely know what I am talking about when it comes to Algebra (better than most other tutors and teachers out there). I am not an expert on audio or video recording. Self-taught.
I am in the sixth grade and you such a good tutor that I can actually understand a lot about what your talking about :)
Thank you so much for your videos! I know they are a few years old, but I am just starting algebra in college. I was always afraid of math and dreaded it in college (bad experiences in Jr high).
I'm using your tutorials in conjunction with a tutor and for the first time in my 49 years......I understand Algebra and am no longer afraid of math!
I've gone through many tutorials here on UA-cam and you are the first one I understand!
Thanks to your videos.....I know I will do fine in Algebra :)
@videomathtutor I'd call Algebra 2 and advanced version of Algebra. In school they taught us the basics and then we moved onto Algebra 2. That's really the term they use in school. I want to say that this is awesome and I appreciate the fact that you teach this for free rather than charging money. Math isn't quite clicking with me, but this is helping me just a little bit better.
Oh thank you so much math tutor man!
I am an older *student* returning back to college after many moons of being out...and I don't remember a thing! This has helped me gain an edge and got me back into learning mode again!
I'll be using you a lot more, I've got to get through probability and statistics, and nasty dosage calculation.
thank you luis you helped to pass my pre algebra test to get into math 1
Well, you are taking care of the coefficients (the numbers) but not the variables (the letters). Both need to be done. Watch this lesson (entire lesson, not just this sample) to get a good introduction to algebra. I will cover more about multiplications in algebra in future lessons (subscribe to my channel to be informed of new lessons).
I will be doing videos in those areas, but they will probably not be free. Sorry.
If you don't understand the video, start off with the "Basic Math" videos I offer for FREE here. Be aware they are designed for 7th grade through college. I will be making videos for younger students, but not for awhile.
This is amazing, I want to tell you that you should not apologize for the jokes, it is your way to make the class attractive and fun... even sometimes is necessary to relax and this is great, thank you so much
geez, im lucky to knowing alot of maths and so many other kinds, by uploading this exactly on my birthday, thanx for the gift from 2 years ago :D
I'm going to have to give in and pay for your algebra lessons. Thanks to you I learned Math. I tried the free Khan academy algebra but his delivery is far less professional. You get what you pay for and I look forward to getting some algebra skills!
Wow, now that I've watched your videos, I can officially pass Algebra with flying colors! Thanks!!! :)
well today i'm a highschool now
....and tomorrow we will have
our long test
your magnificent video helped
me in a short period of TIME!!!!
THANKS A LOT!!!
You may need to watch the Basic Math videos first. Another option is to watch the ENTIRE video, not just this sample. Finally, you may need some private tutoring. Please visit my website for more info on that.
Guys, stop hating on him, he spent a lot of time putting this video together and all he wants to do is help people :D
Thank you for your tutorials. They are very helpful when you have been out of school for a while and having to refresh for the GRE.
I wish i could of had you as my teacher for math. I am having a hard time with algebra because i can't get my lazy ass to study but you make math seem fun and not depressing
this is awesome..I just registered at college and I need to take remedial algebra. This will help greatly
I will eventually do a video about them in detail. I do talk a little bit in Basic Math, Lesson 6.
i have to admit that these are a lot more understandable than the textbooks my teachers used to give to me whenever i said i didn't get algebra
Im trying desperately to learn Algebra from zero all over again for a GED, and this has given me light in the subject like no other material has, the only part I had difficulty understanding was the listing of the negative terms, and exactly why they had to be listed as negative terms...
Well, the answer is 2x^2 (two x squared). To better see this, replace x with a value, like 3.
I will cover more of this in another lecture.
dude, yhis is alot of help specialy if you taking the asvab test for the military... THANK YOU
wow he is a nice teacher he teaches well that's why i understand algebra now WOW thanks.......
These videos are awesome -- I'm taking my Accuplacer tomorrow and I can't describe how much these have helped refresh my memory. =D Thanks!!
Please make the video easier for children to understand like me I am in a primary school but your video is very good! Thumbs up!
Just thought I'd say in studying maths for computer graphic and find you classes really useful; keep coming!
@kateandizzy It is not really age specific. It is for anyone first learning algebra (hence the title "Introduction to Algebra"). It is designed mainly for students from 7th grade through college.
@dizzytrizzy07 Yeah. I know. It was recorded in mono, not stereo. Sorry. This has been fixed for future videos.
He is talking about coefficients in that part of the video. He is asking - what is the number (or constant) in front of the variable?
The coefficient of 2x is 2 because that expression really means 2 times x.
So in the case of -y, the coefficient is -1, because -1 times y equals -y
I show you how to solve those types of problems in my lesson: "Algebra: Solving Linear Equations - Part 1." You can see the first 18 minutes of this lesson for free here on UA-cam, and buy the complete lesson on my website (DVD or VOD). I do recommend you also watch this lesson first, to get the basics. Also go over all my free "Basic Math" lessons. They are designed to help students prepare for algebra.
Baby steps. Do as I recommended, and I am confident you will succeed. I will do more videos at a nice slow pace in the future, so look out for those. I am doing SAT/ACT videos first, then more algebra, then the slower paced videos.
@iN3M3Z1Z Sorry about that. I just got a new stereo mic, so this won't be a problem in the future.
u r knd of a very jolly teacher
vey nicce i really like ur videos
@bigmommaloveskk You can rent the videos here on UA-cam, or purchase the Video On Demand on the lulu website. The Notes can be purchased separately from me at my videomathtutor site. You can get notes free if you buy DVDs from me (this takes longer, since I have to mail them, but they are of a higher quality than other videos.)
thats ok. i really like the way you teach you're so much better than my teacher.thanks for uploading a videos like this it helps a lot . :)
Video is designed for 7th grade through college. If you have a hard time understanding this video, you may want to watch the "Basic Math" videos first.
I pray I learn everything I need to know... before I take my Math Compass Test.... I'm trying to graduate... :-)
@l3annanaMan You are most welcome. More lessons will be posted soon...
@bratzkidscloe Good to know. Try watching my other algebra videos too! More are on the way!
Start off with watching the Basic Math videos, since they give you a very good review of what you need to know to do well in Algebra, then continue with the algebra lessons. Buy the DVDs to get the complete Algebra videos. Reading the Printable PDF Notes will help too!
what ever you do , you have to feel the desire and enthusiasm to enjoy it, it doesn't matter how old are you, but like professor AST says organize your self, and sacrifice your boredom, and then stick to your plan.
but again, the most important thing in life for what ever you do is your enthusiasm. often i find people saying "uh! i hate pull ups, they shouldn't do it, because they are not enjoying they are forcing themselves to do it, even more, they could have a heart attack because stress
There should be a link for you to follow to rent full lesson. It is only available in certain countries. If you cannot, you would need to either buy DVD or the Video-On-Demand. Both available at my website.
Sound is mono, not stereo. Adjust your sound. I will be fixing this in future videos.
subbed.. got a lot of work to do for my GED.. thanks for putting these up
The sound is not in stereo, but I hear it on both my speakers. I'm sorry if you are having problems.
@videomathtutor I see what you're saying now. I'm paying for the entertainment portion of the video. Not the math lessons themselves. Granted part of the money is paid for math lessons, but the majority if you look at it correctly is paid for entertainment itself.
I was looking strictly for information without sifting through the search engines and so I used youtube and saw this video. I would like to thank you for taking the time to explain everything in this detail. I honestly liked the video
Visit my website to get notes.
Wow !!! when i learn for this video i think i'm already ready for doing algebra !! :)))
Thank you for posting this video!! i really enjoy it sooo much!! :)))
@jtjjbannie What does video production have to do with math? Sounds works fine with me and my MacBook. It is in mono, not stereo. Please adjust your PC's audio settings to hear. I have corrected this for future videos.
I would recommend you watch all my "Basic Math" videos FIRST, since they are designed to help students review the math you need to know before taking algebra. Free math notes are also available on my videomathtutor[.]com website! If you still struggle, you can get webcam tutoring from me, but I do charge for this (details on website).
Well, I just gave it a "Thumb's Up," so that should help. I don't think it is racism, but rather ignorance. People forget we owe a huge debt to the Arab culture for many things in our lives. They instead just think of the negative. I hope teachers do more on their part to spread the POSITIVE influence the Arab world (and other non-western cultures) has done for us. Only then can hatred be abolished.
@teststudyskills You are welcome. You may embed my FREE videos on your website, if you like.
Very good video! I'm so confused in understanding Algebra.
I'll be back for more :)
@roger767 Well, you have my videos and math notes now! So I hope you don't fail a second time. More videos are on the way!
thanks dude i am studying for my midterms this really helped!
It is not that they may be having trouble with this. I just want to teach this in the PROPER way, so that students can BETTER understand this. It provides a good foundation so that more difficult algebra will seem easier.
@abovecrazykid Glad I could help! More videos are on the way!
@OfficialJuke Your SPECIFIC question is answered in my "Algebra: Solving Linear Inequalities" lesson, but you should watch other algebra lessons first, to better understand all the material.
You may want to watch the entire lesson to better understand the concept of variables.
wow,,i have been looking for something like this,,like forever!!
thanks
Freaking awesome. I had a good algebra teacher so I can't see I wish you were my teacher, but this makes it clearer even for someone who's been through way higher level algebra.
i just watched a video if you just pay attention in class you'll get the concept i'm a 12 year old girl and i'm going into middle school i'll give you some tips
Watching the FULL lessons will help you.
@kassieGX Algebra 1. By the way, since there is no clear definition to what "Algebra 2" is, I won't be using this term in future videos.
@biggee316 The Basic Math videos are all free. You can save money by renting those that I charge for here. Buying the PDF files from my website is another way to save money.
@bigmommaloveskk Downloading and going over the free math notes on my videomathtutor website will also help you review your math. More videos are on the way!
I couldn't go to sleep but them i watched this. Thanks
i hope these video help me to do good on my math placement compass test! great video!!!!!
Jocelyn Heredia-Garcia I hope so too!
Dude! You are freaken awesome!! You are immensely helping me to kick ass in my math exam tomorrow. :D
@carolcitty You can get free SAMPLE notes on my VIdeoMathTutor website. Full notes are for sale there. Look for the "PDF Printshop link at top of homepage.
It's really quite simple to cheat. Here's what you need to do... take a bunch of time to go over all the notes from class. Then take some time to go over all the assigned homework problems. Finally, memorize any formulas. This way, you will be able to get away with answering the test questions! Your teacher won't suspect a thing! I hope this helps.
@ConejoDosTrece213 I'm sorry you are having difficulty with this video. You may want to start off with my "basic Math" video series FIRST. It is designed as a review of the math you will need for algebra.
@OhByGolly1 Try watching this and my other videos. You may want to start off with the Basic Math ones first.
History is just as important as math! I actually enjoy reading about the History of Mathematics!
@11gdh12 I will talk more about pi when I do my geometry lessons. I really can't go into much depth here. Pi is a constant, since it never changes value (hence a CONSTANT). The value of a variable VARIES depending on how it is being used.
Thank you so much!! Now I understand algebra a lot better and can you please make a video about polynomials. I have a very hard time understanding addition/subtraction/multiplication/division polynomials, and square of polynomials/binomials/trinomials.
@JoelOnYouVideos GLad to know I can help! More videos are on the way!
I like the intro music
Great video helped me rasie my Grade in math
Thanks. New videos are on the way!
@SportsEuro Also, be aware that most of my videos here ARE free (and more are on the way). I use most of my money to get more "math toys" so that my videos are not as boring as others I have seen here.
@OhByGolly1 Trust me, it is very resourceful. You will use it throughout school and in many jobs. It also is so extensive that it can be used in so many different things that you cant put your mind around everything that algebra can be used with. For an instance, it can be used if you are trying to mix certain things in a lab to be a certain acidity %. All it is, is putting this into an equation: What number times 4 plus 22 equals 33? 4(x)+22=33 4x=11 x=11/4 11/4 time 4 plus 22 equals 33
I would not know. I think most people can learn math given a good teacher or tutor and a desire to learn.
It help me alot!!!!!!!!!! =) Thank you SIR. you're better than our professor. :)
Thanks a lot! :D
You should get much more views! Your videos are awsome and you really learn math from them :D
(Sorry if my english is bad, Im from sweden)
Try using the "Video-on-Demand" service on my videomathtutor[.]com website (or buy DVDs). Sorry about the non-rentals here. I have no control over that, google does.
@mLupitaRamirez1 Glad to know I was able to help. More videos on the way in September.
found this!!! Thanks so much! I love the way you teach, and your jokes are funny, it breaks the monotony of learning lol.
Sound is in mono, not stereo. Please adjust your speakers accordingly.
This is great...btw, just curious...What is the highest or most difficult branch of mathematics to learn?
@biggee316 Not sure what you mean by "listing negative terms." Be sure to go over all my "Basic Math" videos too!
There are several sources credited for algebra. You may want to do some research in a library, for more detailed info.
Video is in mono, not stereo. Adjust your audio output.
Thanks for the input. Let's also not forget EVERY video game made is pretty much one really big application of mathematics!
@blacklotus808 When there is no coefficient visible, it is implied that a 1 is there. Keep watching my videos... you will get it. Don't give up too soon.
It is in mono, not stereo. Adjust your sound output.
