  • As an Aviation Ordnanceman, you are the fire behind the firepower, in charge of all aircraft ammunition. Whether you’re stationed on a ship or with a flight squadron, you’ll pack everything from guns and ammo to missiles and bombs onto helos and fighter jets.     I was an AO1 in the navy did a tour on the Enterprise (CVN66) two tours at NAS Fallon NV. There's a bombing ranges there. Great job. Proud of being a BB stacker lol

      @@chrismorrison52 you'll probably at an air station or carrier maybe a bombing range like NAS Fallon. Long hours especially on a carrier cuz you'll have night ops as well as day ops it depends where you're assigned. You could wind up in a cag, carrier air wing working with the jets loading ordnance on them

    I was just at the VA for back pain. They asked me what I did. AO. Just watched this video for motivation. IYAOYAS. I just wish the dr’s could see what we really did. Just they ask me if there was an incident that hurt my back but I hurt my back everyday and they kinda just laughed at me.

    A Salute to the B-B Stackers - though back in the old HSL Days - we only had 2 AOs at the squadron and NONE at sea - AO duties on the frigates/destroyers fell to the Aircrewmen and the ships Gunners

      I was in A school when it got changed. Some retired officer was on base w his family and complained about yelling IYAOYAS in front of children. That’s when the military began going woke 2010. Oh yeah and don’t smoke spice.

      @@waterhead001 hours depend on your ship and the situation I pre commissioned a ship so there were days I would get off work at 10 AM and days I’d get off at 7 PM I haven’t been on a squadron but I hear it’s a lot of work but it’s great and you hardly deploy to ships which is also great

      got out as an AO3 back in 2005, loved the memories and i don't think there will be a bigger bond in any other dept, like the one the Weapons dept will give you. Advancement rate was great back then, i'm sure it still is. I was in G3 of the Weps dept. LOVED it. #IYAOYAS! Just know if you get out, your choices are very limited out here.

      I’m an AO currently. It requires strength,quick thinking and being a team player. AOs are extremely close but like I said it’s not for the weak.

    How is the advancement for an AO?

      It's been pretty good the past couple cycles. This past one was around 40% for E-3, 25% for E-4, and 11% for E-6.

      AO advancement seems to be getting a little better then, I also got offered QM to ship early for which I might go for actually given how good advancement is. Currently MM Surface and shipping November 29th

      Guamtonkid Gaming seems like QM is a really wanted rate, is it really that good of a rate and how so? A lot of people at my recruiting station want it and I’m not sure what the big fuss about it is outside of the incredible advancement

      AOA school now located at NAS Pensacola , I went to Nattc Millington tenn in 1984 , Loved being an ordie in my f-18 squadron !

      So, you had to be in one of the first Hornet squadrons to deploy right? When I got to the Connie, we deployed with 113 and 25, they were the first to do it on the West coast.
      On my second cruise, the 113 guys invited Chief Finn on the Tiger Cruise back from Pearl. And he did it! I was running the fight-deck shop night shift by then. He came up to the bomb-farm every morning. We got to talk to him alot. How freaking cool is that?

      @@stanstenson8168 We sure did pass one another Stan , I left AOA went straight to Lemoore for PRP training with VFA-125 for 3 months then back to NAS Cecil Field for rag training VFA-106 for 16 months and then to my first real f-18 squadron same base VFA-131 Wildcats we were in CAG 13 aboard the USS Coral sea and 1st hornets at sea on the east coast , Our squadron received its 1st f-18's in 1984 , That is a way cool story as well holy smokes , I ran night shift as well for most of the 87/88 med-cruise and loved it all , We were young but had one heck of a responsibility .
