    Hopper fishing is my favorite time of the year . Unfortunately the water is so warm in NH right now catch in release is more like catch and kill. I haven’t fished in 2 weeks, hopefully we get some rain and cold nights soon. Thanks for the video it relieved the fix a little.

      Aw man, seriously good decision on that. We were teetering around here until we had a massive change to much, much cooler weather. Think 90s to 40s. Here's hoping yours turns around soon so you can get in on a great fall season. 🍻

    Love it..finally got to great piece of water due to lower (maybe) water. All of a sudden, risers due to the wind, risers in a 'non place' got me 8 on hook, none into the net.

    Great video and fun to fish those hoppers and beetles. Dave, when you are mending in the faster water are you also trying to give the hopper or beetle a bit of action or are you trying to maintain a dead drift. BTW, Kudos to Amelia for the intro footage, simply beautiful!

    • @jensenflyfishing
      @jensenflyfishing  2 роки тому +1

      Glad you enjoyed it all. Those blue beetles - hadn't seen those ones before so it was neat to stumble upon them 😊 And truth be told I'm always doing something deliberate with the line or planning ahead to the hook set, etc... so yes when it's drifting I try to mend at a rhythm to meet the space of twitching. When the inevitable cross river bowing occurs I use the drag to pulse twitch the last of the drift.

      That's just a pattern of our own, with no particular name. Nothing special but definitely worth putting some poly into the wing in under the deer hair to help with keeping it floating for longer if you look to tying your own. We're in Alberta.

    When you are “resting” the fish before casting again, how long do you guys typically wait? Thanks in advance! Love the videos

    • @jensenflyfishing
      @jensenflyfishing  2 роки тому

      Likely a minimum of 5 minutes even if it rises straight away.... 5 minutes after it starts feeding action or loosens up again (where you can see the fish).

    Love your videos, your photography challenges the best out there in the fly fishing scene. in the warmer weather it appears the you rarely use chest waders. Are you using a wader pant or wet wading with a quick dry pant material? Thanks in advance. Man I'm learning lots, just started FF a year ago at age 65.

    • @jensenflyfishing
      @jensenflyfishing  2 роки тому

      Hi & thank you for that. Best is that you enjoy our shares, that's great to hear. Simple stuff but if it puts you out there on the water with us, mission accomplished! :) We wear waders spring and fall or in cold weather. The past couple years around SW Alberta have been anything but cold nor wet. I use the Orvis Pro Lt Field Hunting Pant. Best quick dry pants I've come across. Light, durable, tough in the brambles. :) 65 is a perfect time to get into fly fishing. Have fun with it. Keep it adventurous and fun. Zone in where you want to but otherwise keep it light and prospecting the first while and just have fun with it :)

    Another beautifully filmed and educational video. If I may a non-fishing question. At the beginning there is a beautiful yellow-bodied black winged bird taking bugs I think. I have never seen that bird before; do you know what it is?

    • @jensenflyfishing
      @jensenflyfishing  2 роки тому

      Thanks all round to that - pretty sure that's an American Goldfinch. They flutter about the willows, alders & saskatoons. They never let you get too close but a beautiful bird for sure :)

      All round? I'd have to say the Blackout. You can beef it up, over dress it and just pause & lean into it a little more. Dry fly or short distance-centric? H3F. But all around the nod to the blackout. 🍻🎯

      Great to hear you enjoy 'em. We're always within an inch on the eyeball, but truth is size means absolutely nothing to us, really, given the sheer # of fish we've enjoyed through the decades - it's only ever really relevant to the water you fish and thing like coloration or location fished or the visuals on the take are so much more valuable to us 😍😍🍻👍
