Don't question the quality of these axes! I ordered 1 and wish i would've ordered more, 25 for shipping to southern Minnesota. I ordered to support his channel. I don't even split wood!! I will order again when money allows
@@eastcoastlumberjack I agree we do sometime soon hopefully we love you guys and also we seen you guys at Ben’s party so now we will have to wait a couple more weeks
The Hetherington is such a nice design I’m not surprised it’s your top seller. I’m interested in trying out the French curve but gotta find the right head first !
Basque pattern in my experience is a slip fit design as a tomahawk is. Boys axes are also 3/4 axe. Love the American felling axe example you have, I am going to have to steal that tulip shaped knob. Glad you addressed the heartwood vs fat wood, No difference in strength even at the transition , or so the study says and it was extensive.
Yes - the stats are in heartwood's favour. Did you see Buckin's test where he busted up a few handles with sapwood and heartwood? He says heartwood is more brittle and sapwood is more stringy, and his test showed that too.
I did not. I did once briefly read the U. S. Ag. study I believe specifically about this and the results were they are the same with immeasurable difference, even at the transition. This was done as I recall to make use of the heartwood as early belief was that it was inferior. Wasted Hickory wood in the heyday of the axe was a problem . Had to often harvest the trees with an axe and processed laboriously. Bigger fan of the videos every day. Great work. @@eastcoastlumberjack
Great overview and much appreciated. Good to know there are shipping savings on multiple orders. Best I hit those antique shops hard for vintage axe heads then. Cheers from the Ottawa Valley:)
Thanks Mark. Will squeeze that little fella in somewhere in the next week. When you say small swell.....do you mean small fawns foot, or just a gradual thickening of the straight handle? I'm assuming a small flare.
Thanks for the overview Rod.

Good stuff! I'd be interested in learning how to install a peavey handle.

"Cruiser", is a boys axe size double bit, 2 1/2 pounds generally. 2 1/4 eye. Larger doubles are just called," Double bit".
Good to know. I used to call all them DB's, but guys call just about any DB a "cruiser" in my experience when they order.
My understanding of a cruiser double bit is 2.5lb and the top of the eye is 2 1/4”.

"Sunnylodge Mark" ?
Just a small flare or thickening would be great Rod. Thanks!
How much thicker is the Hetherington vs the vintage moore ?
Typically, just a 1/4 inch or a wee bit more. However, I can make the Hetherington as thin as you want it....or vice versa.
