Was really excited to see this video. I saw Liams video a while ago where he said he was having a hard time getting a hold of you but was sending the axe any way. Can't wait to see you try it out.
Liam is a true craftsman. Of the highest order. As an FYI. He hardens the poll so that it can be used to hammer on steel. Tent pegs and such and won't mar and mushroom.
Yep, soon as saw the axe, knew a proper camping axe, as can chop and hammer in the tent stakes. Meaning, saves weight and don't have to go find a rock. ;p
Wranglerstar I say that id love to see all you youtube craftsmen form a "Guild", somewhat like the guilds of old, but moreso in name. Promoting each others work and cooperating. Would be great to start seeing tradeshows where all the great UA-cam craftsmen make appearances.
Alec I want you to know Jack and I love your videos. The amount of effort you have put into your video production is very much appreciated, thank you. P.S. Good job on the Samurai's chisel,
If we could get Cody, Jesse, Alec and Liam all in the same video, boy would that make my day, my week, or even my month!! How about a Quad Collaboration?
As a subscriber and avid follower of Cody, Liam, Alec Steele & Jesse the Samurai Carpenter, I gotta say - I love these crossovers!! This is how a community is built, by competent craftsmen recommending and giving support to each other's fine work. I love it!!
I have a Liam Hoffman Blacksmithing Axe.I know him and he truly is a great Guy.He makes all his handles and his Mom does the leather work.He has videos on him making his handles.Absolutely amazing!
My brother has two of Liam's axes and it blows me away a kid his age ( I believe he's in his early 20s) makes such and extremely high quality tool, being in the trades I worry about the today's generation knowing how to actually build and make stuff, hopefully there are more kids out there like Liam!!
Thanks for having such an appreciation for things of quality and making a big deal of it. this way of seeing the world just isn't in our way of thinking anymore. nice work Liam Hoffman
Truly a beautiful piece of functional artwork. I just read his bio and this is a young many who has only been doing this for 8 years and is only 21 years old! Amazing. Can't wait to see your videos where you are using this axe to hear how you like it after using it.
Cody, The sheath is tight because you are putting in on backwards. The snap goes on the axe on the same side as the Maker's Mark. It is just beautiful. Thanks for Liam's channel.
I have easily 150 axes and my Liam Hoffman is by far my favorite. I asked him to make me a fireman's hatchet well over a year ago and I was thrilled to see it became a production model. It is the highest quality tool I have ever owned!
great review. glad to see it next to the small forest axe for size comparison. being a larger man the small forest axe seems on the light side. Thanks Cody
Congratulations Liam, I've been waiting for this video once he announced he'd be sending one to Cody. I knew it would be a good review. The axe is hardened as well so you can use for pounding unlike other axes that require no contact to them.
Fantastic to witness Your channel Cody & Liam's progression on UA-cam over the last few years, all my favourite craftsmen are creating a wonderfully enjoyable community and cross over videos making things for each other it's just great to watch! Keep up the good work!
"Give me a moment here" at 2:00... After 22 seconds Cody came out of his trance... Loved it, a man who appreciates what it takes to "do the work"... (Tred Barta)
Thanks for sharing the work of Liam! He is a well rounded young man with an awesomely bright future. He does amazing work on his knives and axes. Absolutely amazing and an EAGLE SCOUT, too!
Sometimes I think people just cannot refrain from disliking a video. Sad little people! Cody, I love the vids, and the channel, I love the passion and genuine appreciation for tools that you express. God Bless you.
I think the sheath is that tight because it's on upside down. It looks like it has a non vertically reversible shape to it to properly fit the bit right side up. Truly another mark of exceptional craftsmanship.
Hello Wranglestar. I own a Gransford Bruks axe, gave it to my son. So was going to buy another. Will choose instead, Liam's. A titanic amount of skill to make something like this. I wish him all the success possible. Appreciate you comparing the two axes.
Came here from Liam's channel. I'm glad to see that you agree with what I noticed when first happening upon his channel. True love and passion for the craft. It makes all the difference in the world. = D
As usual you nailed it again. Your chanel has always been great and is only getting better. You are humble, hardworking and not in any way pretentious. its lovely to see someone who has respect for the achievements of others and does what they can to help the get on. Good man yourself. Thanks for all the reviews.
Your a lucky man Cody. Would be great to see a video of it in use! loving the timber framing, keep up the great work! Ps: Maybe time for another triple axe challeng, Hoffman, Autine, Gransfors? :)
Well Wranglerstar, you've made me want an axe from Liam, to hear you talk about that axe the way you are with the experience you have with axes. I think one of Liam's axes will be my next axe purchase.
So glad you finally got the axe from Liam. You didn't mention the walnut wedge. His craftsmanship is truly exceptional. I have a Hoffman blacksmith rounding hammer and it is just as fine as his axes. As soon as I got the hammer I ordered a hatchet from Liam. Can't wait to get it!
LIAM did a fine job as all American Tradesman can do . Proud of you LIAM ...enjoy it Cody and your son it will be around for years. A true Gift from the heart..God Bless
Gosh that handle is AMAZING.. a bit more curve and accentuation to it than you normally see and the dark grain on the side of it REALLY makes it even more dramatic looking
Wow what a lucky man you are to receive such an heirloom tool. Something to definitely hand down to the grandkids. Never heard of these until today and looks like the wait time is 12 months with 10 produced each week with a different design each week. This truly GAVE ME The FIZZZZZ. Very talented man to say the least!!!!!
It's very pretty mate. The problem here in Australia at least is all the woods are hardwood. My Granfors small forest chipped on first use. So a hardwood.grind is preferred like a Snedden Razorback.
Incredible talent! On his site, he says that he hardens the poll so that is can be safely used as a hammer on steel without damage to the axe. He also has a sharpening video that is amazing.
I just happened to stumble upon his work after watching his episode on forged in fire. I really want to add his camp ax and the Jager model fixed blade knife to my collection ( he uses 3V steel in the Jager, one of my all time favorite steels )
How close are you to putting up the video with regards to the axe performance Wranglerster? I'm keen to see the performance of the steel and how it compares to the faithful small forest axe.
If you haven't watched the back videos on his channel yet, Liam DOES do all the handling himself... much of the handle carving done with a draw knife, believe it or not. He did a video on handling a few months back. It's WELL worth watching!
Cody, you gave us all a jolt of fizzzzzz with Liam's axe! What a beauty! I want.... Will ad Liam to the list of craftsmen I follow. Ended with lovely music. Thank you.
i know that very few axes compare to your beautiful Liam Hoffman, but your beloved gransfors bruks small forest axe may have yet another challenger. Council tool has come out with a "WOOD-CRAFT pack axe". 2 pound head on an 18" handle. The head has a similar pattern to your Small Forest axe. maybe a challenge video
Another great feature of his axes is he hardens the poll so it can litterly b used as a hammer. Oh and the sheath goes on with the strap on the top of the blade.
You forgot about Council Tools premium axes. Made in America with American steel and hickory. Their regular line has been used by the forest severe and wild land firefighters for a century.
Yup Liam's are the first axes I've seen that actually made me drool. Every one is a treasure. Thanks for showcasing this one--it's quite the little bulldog by the looks of it.
I am looking forward to hearing your review after using your new axe. After watching Lam's videos the camp axe makes getting work done faster & easier. You use & appreciate a good tool. you may have a new favorite instead of your Swedish axe.
One of the marks of quality leather work is that they use solid brass or copper rivets with heads on both sides, which is much more durable and expensive than using a universal hollow style rivet. It is something I always look for.

Just got a Wranglestar shoutout - screamed like a little girl! Thank you Sir!
Alec I want you to know Jack and I love your videos. The amount of effort you have put into your video production is very much appreciated, thank you.
P.S. Good job on the Samurai's chisel,
Alec Steele so what will you be making Cody?
Alec Steele I got giddy about it too. congrats. you guys are inspiring this generation to get out and craft.
If we could get Cody, Jesse, Alec and Liam all in the same video, boy would that make my day, my week, or even my month!!
How about a Quad Collaboration?
yes but you deserves that shoutout
As a subscriber and avid follower of Cody, Liam, Alec Steele & Jesse the Samurai Carpenter, I gotta say - I love these crossovers!! This is how a community is built, by competent craftsmen recommending and giving support to each other's fine work. I love it!!

David Levin That is cool. Everything was so perfect. Axe, handle, sheath. Wow.
Wowww incredible fam🙏❤️⛏️
Liam does make his own handles. I watched the video of him finishing your ax.
Link?
The names of the video is A axe for the samurai, it's around 16 minutes in when he shows the axe.
Thanks!
My brother has two of Liam's axes and it blows me away a kid his age ( I believe he's in his early 20s) makes such and extremely high quality tool, being in the trades I worry about the today's generation knowing how to actually build and make stuff, hopefully there are more kids out there like Liam!!
"Properly hung"
"Nice cheeks down there"
"Look how much contact you have with the wood"
There's more, but it's time for me to act my age.
Ben Kreviazuk there is also "i like the size" one...
LOL :)
🤣
Finally found this video. I got to meet Liam at the Blade Show in Atlanta, Georgia a few years ago. Very humble talented guy.
Went to school with him all my life. Great guy and blacksmith.
Thanks for having such an appreciation for things of quality and making a big deal of it. this way of seeing the world just isn't in our way of thinking anymore.
nice work Liam Hoffman

Do you still feel the same after 6 years? WOuld you say it's better than Gränsfors or Hultafors or Norlund?
great review. glad to see it next to the small forest axe for size comparison. being a larger man the small forest axe seems on the light side.
Thanks Cody
Congratulations Liam, I've been waiting for this video once he announced he'd be sending one to Cody. I knew it would be a good review. The axe is hardened as well so you can use for pounding unlike other axes that require no contact to them.
I have viewed Liam Hoffman videos and He is a extremely talented blacksmith.
I’m still waiting on the update on how you like the axe after using it

Acoustic Panels made a huge difference. the alignments. Nice axe too!
bam! just like that you are going to have him back ordered
Jeffrey Wilke and I will have no problem waiting lol
I waited almost a year for mine and I have had it for almost 6 months.
Jeffrey Wilke lol trust me he already was. He's been on history channels forged in fire.
Yeah right! What is the model? Is it the Camp Axe? I'll order as soon as I can confirm that ;-)
2.25 lb Camp axe, 19" hickory handle with the round cheeks not pointed. Also just FYI it is Amazing!
Sometimes I think people just cannot refrain from disliking a video. Sad little people! Cody, I love the vids, and the channel, I love the passion and genuine appreciation for tools that you express. God Bless you.
That is one of the most beautiful axes I've ever seen. Liam and Alec are two young guns to be reckoned with.
I LOVE the black wedge that was used on the handle! It looks SO stunning!
I'm gonna guess that's black walnut. Juglans Nigra if my Forestry edumucation is still valid.
I love seeing your smile when being surprised by gorgeous craftsmanship.
Incredible work. So glad we still have someone producing this level of craftsmanship!
I think the sheath is that tight because it's on upside down. It looks like it has a non vertically reversible shape to it to properly fit the bit right side up. Truly another mark of exceptional craftsmanship.
I love the handle on the axe, tri-tone. light on one side and darker on the other with even darker striations.....Nice!
Hello Wranglestar. I own a Gransford Bruks axe, gave it to my son. So was going to buy another. Will choose instead, Liam's. A titanic amount of skill to make something like this. I wish him all the success possible. Appreciate you comparing the two axes.
Putting the sheath on the wrong way to how you got it out of the box. Maybe that's why you're struggling to close it
Gets 'the fizz' over just about everything nowadays too haha
RIGHT I WAS SCREAMING AT THE SCREEN "TURN IT OVER"
I did too I wanted to make sure I wasn't the only one
lol
I was saying the same when I just watched it.
I'm glad I'm not the only one that saw that!
I am so impressed by that kind of craftsmanship. And to do the leather and wood work as well! That is talent.
Came here from Liam's channel. I'm glad to see that you agree with what I noticed when first happening upon his channel. True love and passion for the craft. It makes all the difference in the world. = D

Your a lucky man Cody. Would be great to see a video of it in use! loving the timber framing, keep up the great work!

Going order one of these on the next couple weeks for sure. Outstanding craftsmanship for sure. Thank you for sharing. -Stephen, Ohio
LIAM did a fine job as all American Tradesman can do . Proud of you LIAM ...enjoy it Cody and your son it will be around for years. A true Gift from the heart..God Bless
The second you pulled it from the peanuts I realized that I no longer need to send to Sweden to find an heirloom axe. That is wonderful!
Craftsmen of this caliber are precisely what this country needs. Thank you for sharing this with us Cody.
I'm glad you were able to get the axe! it's a thing of beauty!
Great ax. The leather work is very nice too.
Thought I would come back a couple years later and ask your thoughts on the performance of this axe. Really considering buying one.
Amazing work on the axe, thoroughly enjoying watching you go all gooey inside over it.
Gosh that handle is AMAZING.. a bit more curve and accentuation to it than you normally see and the dark grain on the side of it REALLY makes it even more dramatic looking
What a beautiful work of art!! Thanks for sharing.
Every time you say it gives me the fizz it makes me smile.
Nothing better than a hand made tool from a craftsman/artist! & Its made in the great USA... Love these axes!
Real nice craftsmanship love the axe I would have the fizz
You can tell from Hoffman's makers mark alone that it's quality - it's a proud makers mark !
Wow what a lucky man you are to receive such an heirloom tool. Something to definitely hand down to the grandkids. That axe is absolutely beautiful! Quality oozes out of every contour! Thanks for showing this gem to us!

You know it's done right when you have to order at least a year in advance. Nice work, very beautiful.
Jen M Or even up to 15 months. Worth the wait.
Any updates on your Liam Hoffman axe? How are its qualities after testing it in some projects and tests?
What a thoughtful and wonderful gift!! Liam, you produce some amazing axes. God bless you and yours!
That looks like an exceptional axe. Well done Liam and team

Beautiful axe! Nice work Liam.
Great Job Liam. Making NC proud!
Can't wait to see it in action!
I really want a follow up video after some forestry work. I think the extra weight is going outshine the grans fors.
Beautiful looking axe, and way to go with pointing out Alac and Liam in your video 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻
Yup Liam's are the first axes I've seen that actually made me drool. Every one is a treasure. Thanks for showcasing this one--it's quite the little bulldog by the looks of it.

It’s so cool to see somebody you went to High School with make such high quality blades!
What did you think of the Prandi axe never herd any more.
