    I've been trying to figuer out a super cheep way to build a makeshift room in my grandmother's garage for my daughter. I essentially have 0 income because of health complications. (No worries getting heart surgery soon, and can get back to work) but my garage is too hot for her to sleep in and too many bugs find there way in as well. I was thinking of using blankets and Velcro and somehow making walls like that....
    Anyways this video really helped me figuer out what to do. I'm not gonna build the exact thing you did but you gave me the best idea so far. So thank you. My daughter is super important to me, she's 13 and deserves some kind of privacy and I'm glad I found a video that can help me give her that.

    I LOVE your voice! It’s extremely calm and soothing. Just be your authentic, amazing, creative, talented, and beautiful self. I am trying to do this project for quite some time now as I fell in love with how amazing it is! I don’t usually build things but I’m really determined. Having hard time finding the correct supplies! I know you have listed them several times in the comments but still unsure of exactly what I need. I am looking for foam insulation like you used 4x8 but thicker as you recommended. 2 inches or maybe more….but I’ve looked everywhere and can’t find. They are pink or gray colored. Many say Polystyrene on it. I tried reading about it but not sure that’s the same thing. There was a lot of really flimsy white styrofoam insulation too. Like the stuff that falls apart when you pull the packing out of box from purchased item. And none of them have this protective film on it. I am running into a ton of smooshed up and dirty looking insulation sheets. Everyone I ask at Lowe’s/menards/hardware store all are clueless and look at me like I’m insane when I tell them what I’m looking for and trying to build. I saw your suggestion about doing it with plywood. If you would be willing to chat with me and maybe share some guidance I really would be so very thankful! I was just wondering what screws would be the best as they would have to be pretty long. Did you use flat paint or latex? Does it matter? What did you cut it with? What are you using to protect your floor in the video while cutting? Did your cat shred it to pieces? Did it hold up? Are you using wood filler to fill the holes? Did you use just a hack saw for cutting wood pieces or need an electric saw? Would you be willing to make a Chinese screen for me like yours? I will pay you for your help!!!

      Hi! I used sheets of Styrofoam insulation, and furring strips. I also used a couple 1 by 3s and of course screws and paint. I think that if I did this project again I'd spend a bit more and use hard board instead of Styrofoam as it would be more sturdy.

      @@ShelyHomeDesign thank you so much!! I was looking at costs of each piece and estimate one 4 foot wall panel would be about $40 with the foam plus wood. I need 2 walls that are 8 feet wide (4ftx2)… so total number of panels would be 4… total project cost estimate is about $250. • @ShelyHomeDesign
      @ShelyHomeDesign  2 роки тому +4

      I actually would suggest going with a thicker Styrofoam from the start, maybe 1.5 inch thick, it would make it easier to put together, and it would be much more sturdy. You could try contact paper but I feel it would be too much of a hassle to apply as it's a large surface, and thinner Styrofoam is too flimsy.

    • @abbylynn8872
      @abbylynn8872 2 роки тому +3

I also used furring strips (1x2) for the top and sides to sandwich it together, and 1 by 3s for the bottoms. Also lots of screws and paint, it was a relatively simple build but it's difficult to do alone. Furring strips: I used 1x3x8 on the bottom and 1x2x8 for everything else. The foam board I used was 1 inch thick but I recommend using 2 or 3 inch or even eucaboard instead. If you use thicker foam board you may not need as much wood support, but you'll need much longer screws

    1:50 The idea is great, but the layout is depressing. No natural light in the bedroom, TV facing the window. Desks facing the wall.
    I wonder what Cliff Tan will make of it.

    • @ShelyHomeDesign
      @ShelyHomeDesign  5 місяців тому +1

      Everyone has there own way of things. I purposely did this because I don't like natural light where I sleep lol plus there was an annoying sky light that ended up making the sun go right to my face every morning anyway 😅 good thing I moved from this room to a different one later on

      Yes, this is in California so the rain isn't a huge issue here, but yeah you could put this wall division anywhere! I just liked the placement but if you make this you can put it anywhere you'd like to separate

      Hi! I actually replied to the comment before you for this same question, I used sheets of Styrofoam insulation, and furring strips. I also used a couple 1 by 3s and of course screws and paint. I think that if I did this project again I'd spend a bit more and use hard board instead of Styrofoam as it would be more sturdy.

    liked your idea.. thankyou for it. but, knowingly or unknowingly you also divided the painting in the wall. that's not beautiful thing to do actually.. either you keep it undivided or you can just get rid of it.

      I actually disliked the painting, it was originally a projector screen and a tenant before me ruined it by painting over it. I removed the whole painting a few months later.

    Personally I think it would look better without the extra walls as it looks choppy and makes the whole room look smaller. Dividing areas with furniture placement and rugs would be better. Just my opinion 😊
