How to build a FAKE window in a basement!
So THAT's how to get to the Bat-Cave. Very Nice. Thanks for sharing. I enjoyed the entire process.
I'm glad you like it :) thank you!
I have a kitchen window that only gets afternoon sunlight. It's dark and gloomy from night through dawn and all day till that one beam of sunshine finds it for one hour. Since there is not much of a view outside, I wonder if I could set up a recessed area around the window and put LED lights in to do this round the clock lighting. Neat idea to use for a dark space!
I bet that would really help with the lighting :)
How long did this last?
Because I didn't put a proper hard floor underneath, it lasted about a year. But if you put a hard surface underneath like 1/4 plywood and duck tape it together making a floating subfloor it'll likely last much much longer
You are beauty with brain Shely
Thank you :)
This looks excellent! I just moved to a rental where the main door just opens in the living room and I’m looking for ways to make a divider. May I ask how did you secure it to the floor and ceiling?
I used mounting tape cause this is a rental, but you could screw it in if your landlord allows it
Thank you for sharing. Trying to figure out a cheap way as for rental property of grandchildren boy and girl to separate their room
Im so glad this helped you :)
Great ingenuity. Love rental ideas.
And it really helps break up such a huge space!
It's 2025 🎉 I hope @Shely uploads a new DIY video. I'm sure she already has something creative in her phone to show us 🙏🏾😍 #upload #upload #upload
Thank you! I do have a couple things I'm working on.. 🙂↕️
You have a beautiful voice
Thank you so much!
Agreed! Her face too
Great job! And inexpensive 🎉
Thank you! I actually came up with a better version recently but I wasn't able to record it
Maybe add a fake tree/plant behind the door to make it even better!
That would have been a cool idea, or maybe because of space, a landscape painting or print would be nice too! 😊
How did u paint it
I just painted it with a paint roller and latex interior paint ☺️
Can you tell me what are the brands you are using
I just purchased what I could find at my local home depot
Brilliant 🎉 I would have never thought of something like this and yes I will try this ❤
I hope it works great for you! This one is actually still up and has held quite well
Thinking about something like this for a corner office space will probably attach it to the wall and ceilings just for more stability
That would be perfect! I actually figured out a better way to make this wall too, but it's more labor intensive and I may post a video at some point showcasing it
Well we don't know
Bravo! Very interesting. Ps. Your cat is plotting.....
Yes both my cats love to get in the way 😂
Came here for help. Can’t hear shit cause the stupid ass whispering
Where can I buy
I purchased everything I needed at home depot or lowes :)
Great idea! I personally liked the whispering. Very soothing.
Thank you!
Nice. How does it stay up? Is it anchored to the the all or floor?
This stays up because of the L shape :)
How much did this cost
I cant remember for sure it was a long time ago, but less than 500
Personally I think it would look better without the extra walls as it looks choppy and makes the whole room look smaller. Dividing areas with furniture placement and rugs would be better. Just my opinion 😊
While you are completely entitled to your opinion. You clicked on a video about specifically using floating walls to split up the space. So i don't know what else to say.
‘Just my opinion’ it’s almost like the video is about making a wall to divide the room.. it can help to mentally divide the space not everyone wants to see their bed 24/7.
Because we don't like people talking too loud otherwise it gets annoying
Need hard substrate cannot just put Lino over carpet because carpet isn’t flat - ! I tried that and from experience can say that it doesn’t work - def need to put Lino on a hard floor to work also make sure edges are waterproof to prevent decay of floor underneath
I actually mentioned that before. I used eucaboard underneath but as I mentioned in other comments I'd recommend plywood instead. The this lino has lasted 2 years now and is still looking good :)
How much in total did this project cost?
I think I started it in a comment before but it's been a long time since I did this, bit I think I kept it under 400 dollars by far
I felt like I was listening to an erotic novel.. she sounds like she’s making love to us while giving us tips on building a wall. 😂…. Two mins in I couldn’t take it
And how much would it all cost?
Im so sorry but it's been a long time since ei posted this and I can't remember the exact prices. But I'm sure I wrote it in the comments in the past!
@@ShelyHomeDesign thx
how did you get it secured to the wall? wanting to build something similar
I hung them from the top part which is made of wood, and used fishing line to hang it at the level I like kind of like how in the victorian times they would hang pictures from the picture moulding near the ceiling 😊
Oh wow I must have been half asleep reading your comment when I first replied, I thought you asked how I hung the pictures. This wall is free floating so it's not connected to the walls in my room, it's in the shape of an L and doesn't need support
1:50 The idea is great, but the layout is depressing. No natural light in the bedroom, TV facing the window. Desks facing the wall. I wonder what Cliff Tan will make of it.
Everyone has there own way of things. I purposely did this because I don't like natural light where I sleep lol plus there was an annoying sky light that ended up making the sun go right to my face every morning anyway 😅 good thing I moved from this room to a different one later on
@@ShelyHomeDesign I guess you live in the US, so you don't rely on windows for air-conditioning and ventilation. With all the rain here in the Netherlands a skylight in the bedroom would be a nightmare😁😁
Yes, this is in California so the rain isn't a huge issue here, but yeah you could put this wall division anywhere! I just liked the placement but if you make this you can put it anywhere you'd like to separate
@@ShelyHomeDesign I was looking for easy inspiration to cut off a storage space in the living room. You know, a wall to hide the clutter. 😁😁
I totally understand that! I have done that too, this is really good for that application
The ornate inlays -are they also handmade or were they purchased and what type of wood. Also what type of wood did you build the frame out of?
I purchased a couple of different ones, then I copied them using silicone moulds and then used resin to cast them
Where did you get the roll from?
I purchased the flooring from home depot
I love your whisper!!!!!!
Thank you 🥰
How did you stick the plywood board and shhet together?
In this project, I simply dick taped the hard board pieces together and then added the linoleum on top only taping the edged down leaving it mostly floating
I think it’s cute that you said “consider liking it if you like it” which sounds a bit confusing…but i think you meant “please consider clicking the like button if you like this video” Clever video!
Thanks for the tip, speaking isn't necessarily my strong suit 😅
So smart and creative I love it!!
Thank you!
Thank You for Letting Us Know the Errors So No One Can Sell Me on the idea of Anything But Plywood... Appreciatively, LH from Kentucky 🤗...
Oh yeah I wanted to make sure that my mistakes wouldn't be passed on, I hope your flooring project works beautifully ❤️
You have such a soothing voice
Thank you ☺️
liked your idea.. thankyou for it. but, knowingly or unknowingly you also divided the painting in the wall. that's not beautiful thing to do actually.. either you keep it undivided or you can just get rid of it.
I actually disliked the painting, it was originally a projector screen and a tenant before me ruined it by painting over it. I removed the whole painting a few months later.
Great job. I love the final result. Where did you find the appli ks? Sorry not familiar with the term or spelling? Thanks in advance.
Appliques are like little moldings, I bought some out of wood online and then made silicone moulds of them amdade more with resin
The sound is popping and clipping. Had to mute. Otherwise i love the instruction and i'm definitely going to try this out.
Sorry about the sound, I will be more careful with future videos
Couldn't even watch. That whispery voice is like nails on a chalk board.
Ok!
What happened to the bumps?
What bumps?
Put a painting on it or get wall sticker art
How thick is the carpet? I want to try something similar, but my carpet is super thick. Wonder if this will still work
This carpet was quite plush, so it didn't age the best, but if you make a floating subfloor with plywood and tape the plywood together floating on the carpet it'll give you a smooth hard surface for the linoleum
What material of board is that?
For this project I used Styrofoam insulation, but in the future, i would use euca board if I did this again
You are a LIFE SAVER!!!! I'm autistic and I can't stand the carpeting these cheap landlords be using to cover up the damaged floors. And because of that I tend to just stay on my bed or a chair as of the carpet was hot lava. Just by sharing your experience, you've shot rocketed my mental health and physical health. Thank you thank you
I'm so glad I could help! Please consider using 1/4 inch plywood under the linoleum flooring to make it more stable I didn't do that in this video so the carpet underneath made the floor squishy so it broke after awhile but if you place the plywood on top of the carpet and duck tap it together making a sort of floating sub floor the linoleum on top will have more more stability and last longer :)
You MUST SPEAK LOUDER, please !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!1
Let the haters hate lol I love hearing the soothing whispers! Keep going !!
Thank you :)
Do you have a video of how it looked when u switched to the plywood
