Billy ive been surfing 35 of my 44 yrs on this earth and this documentary epitomizes the impact and importance that a wave has on our souls. Not just the gnarliest or biggest but any wave. If you didnt go back, you wouldve started dieing a slow death and wouldve lost everything because you wouldve lost yourself. Much love to you and your family. The surf community is proud of you and wishes you and your family the best!
Tahiti has the coolest name, what a beautiful woman, what a beautiful family, what a beautiful story! This is the first time I've been excited for a new episode of something to drop in a long time. So refreshing from the garbage you see on TV nowadays!

This is what families used to look like. Before social media, before epidemic levels of narcissism and ego, before women were always constantly on the lookout for the "next best thing", ready to drop whatever decent men they had on their ass with zero remorse or empathy and no responsibility for their actions. It's no surprise that they're Hawaiian based, where love, respect, values and morals, and enjoying the simpler things in life like surfing and nature are common place.
Most women nowadays could never love anything more than they love themselves.

When he caught that first wave at the ranch I got goosebumps....seeing the people that helped him through this whole thing from his doctors to Laird to Kelly is so awesome. He has the most awesome family and friends ever. There is nothing you can't get through with a support system like that

If you’re not moved by Billy Kemper’s story, you don’t have a soul. This is the story that the younger generation should be watching. Not the crazy stuff some of the other guys post.
I love it when people get all preachy-preachy and holier than thou and think they know what everyone should be doing!
@@mtm00 Sorry. My intent was not to offend everyone. It was my gut reaction to the story. I watch many of the other guys channels and enjoy them. My concern was that some of the things one of the other guys post is very dangerous. I worry about kids getting hurt....not trying to preach.

I learned about Billy from a magazine I picked up at my local health food store. Not expecting much I read the article and immediately looked for the WSL videos on YT. The surf shots are breath taking, the video quality is outstanding. The music is amazing. Then there is the amazing inspirational story about catastrophic adversity, determination, perseverance, family, faith, friendship and ultimate triumph. I cried and I cheered. Billy showed us all what life is all about. I wish him and his family all good things. I am truly moved to live and think differently. Thank you.
That first wave at the surf ranch was incredible and got me a bit teared up. Seeing Billy's phenomenal progress and his family and friends there to see him on his first wave back was nothing short of heroic. The love and support that the professional surfing community share is incredible and inspiring. From Laird opening up his Malibu home to help Billy through the physical and mental recovery to Kelly opening up the ranch for Billy to get back on his board, I think we can all learn something from the love and support shared by the surf community and helping one another.
Not to mention he makes it look so easy. Him carefully cruising on a wave after a shattered pelvis is more beautiful and effortless than most of us, trying our very best (and failing) to shred. They're just next level, in tune with the wave and water.

Koa i hope you're proud of your efforts in bringing Billy home, you're obviously more than a friend and being there in his time of need is what everyone needs in there life, great support and people who'll always be there and this really goes for everyone involved in Billy's recovery from Morocco to Hawaii it's one huuuge journey.
I normally don't get sucked into videos, but this story is legit. Billy seems like a super humble, good guy. He risks his life for his family, like a solider, ironworker, cop. Talk about getting knocked down and not feeling sorry for yourself and getting back up on the horse...this is it. Kudos to you and WSL did the right thing stepping up and getting him back to U.S., clearly that saved his life.
This series so thoroughly portrayed Billy that I felt like I could hear him saying encouraging thoughts in his head as he took on those gorgeous Jaws challenges.
Watching Billy surf along with his family brought happy tears to this man. God Bless ya brother Billy and your family.
So many people get stuck with life trauma from accidents, life experiences, etc.
Billy just overcame all fears, and trauma becoming the best version of himself.

Here I was watching a docu on Nazare waves, and I saw thing about a surfer being hurt docu on my timeline and I just watched part after part in one row.
I'm 54 now, when I was 16 I wasn't even able to stand on a surfboard for 10 seconds, I'm able to swim and float and that's about it. And the thing is I love water, I mean I LOVE water and the oceans!!! I am indeed a Thalassophile!!

I've had a hard life, had to do everything on my own, I'm not able to do anything specific but I did do everything, yet I know I don't have any perseverence!!
This guy is such an example to people, and it also shows how bloody important it is to have loving people around you, supporting you and be there, really be there, but also that in the end you have to DO it yourself.
That moment on the surfranch, that first wave I was crying out of joy for him! Like WOW he did it!

Been injured for 3 solid months now and this series really helped me get through my foot injury while being landlocked. Getting through it physically is a cakewalk but the mental weight that i had during this injury was insane from sharing the same feeling in the beginning “will I ever walk again let alone surf?”. My first day back in the water is today after making a full recovery with a gnarly scar.
Best piece of advice watch out for your fins
Exceptional directing, editing, & just the raw emotion captured in every episode.
I myself have had ruthless injuries and been rehabbing for years, but Billy’s story is just special in every way.
What an amazing group of family/friends, doctors, & physical therapists to join together to save this man’s life & passion.

literal tears and goosebumps... I didn't know who Billy Kemper was, nor did I know anything about surfing, but I believe I learnt a life lesson from this documentary... The amount of things Billy went through, his brother overdosing, his mother dying after being diagnosed with cancer, then this injury and all it brought with it from mental turmoil and physical pain, and he still pushed through, he had moments of darkness and feeling like "what am I even doing?" but he came out on the other side and did everything to just experience this joy of life again, and what he truly loves, and the legacy his brother left behind, surfing. A true inspiration. Thank you for this masterpiece of a documentary.

Loved watching this series a few years later. Billy has come so far since this all happened. I love how much he loves his family.......legend! Also, Tahiti is an amazing wife, mother and partner. To have her love, support and encouragement behind him, pushed him forward.

I am not a surfer but for some reason stumbled upon this documentary. I have, though, watched the giant waves on the North Shore. I have gone through rehab with a total knee replacement.
