Sam, you contribute to the popularity of Trump. By focusing on Trump as a cause as much as you do Sam you set aside the background issue which caused him in the first place and end up with a rather single minded analysis. The Trumpian model of what is right or wrong with America touches on issues which on paper you are allowed to have any opinion about but in practise the penalty for saying the "wrong" thing is so high that freedom of speech is effectively lost in those areas of opinion space. So how can it be a surprise that a person as unhinged as Trump ends up as a popular representative in an act of antithetical revenge on this politcal climate that preceeded him and is still at large ? Anyone however who have lived in a somewhat politcally correct space of opinios on the issues pertaining to Trump might naturally be completely bewildered at how this can occur but that is not a testimony to the strangeness of Trump or his followers but to how people with "acceptable" opinions have not discovered that they are not allowed to deviate from the opinions they hold. It is more than freedom of speech. It is the problem that occurs when large populations and institutions settle on what is the right thing to value and do so with complete conviction that their set of valuations are the right ones, not as a matter of opinion but as if it was a matter of fact and any but some alterations outside a narrow domain of tolerance must be forcefully rejected AND they have the means to enforce such rejections at multiple levels in society. I know I am speaking in the abstract here and will keep it that way due to the platform limitations caused by what I just alluded to. Make no misstake Sam, you are a powerful voice and your failure to recognize the core issue that torments the people of the Trump movement makes you a contributer to it - like it or not.

Just a note on the purported need for Democrats to nominate a candidate who can "speak fluidly on the issues". Americans elected George W. Bush over a fairly brilliant Al Gore and a decent John Kerry. Americans also elected a babbling and nonsensical Donald Trump over Hillary Clinton. There is little evidence to suggest that speaking fluidly on the issues is actually relevant at all to American voters.
As a counter point, Dubya is a deceptively effective communicator. He’s had his fair share of moments when he stumbled on his words, but his points very often come across clearly to the average American.

I love the honesty here, and yet I sense that believing this race to be unwinnable, however unescapable that perception may be, could become a self-fulfilling prophesy. We are in unknown political territory where even our most astute political observers can’t see through the fog. And so it seems that our democracy may depend on summoning the same kind of optimism that guides athletes when the odds are against them to give the challenge ahead everything they’ve got, even with Biden at the top of the ticket. When Trump said the election was stolen we reached a low point in social discourse. If Trump would have conceded in grace and dignity we would not be at this dangerous point in American political history.

By focusing on Trump as a cause as much as you do Sam you set aside the background issue which caused him in the first place and end up with a rather single minded analysis.
The Trumpian model of what is right or wrong with America touches on issues which on paper you are allowed to have any opinion about but in practise the penalty for saying the "wrong" thing is so high that freedom of speech is effectively lost in those areas of opinion space. So how can it be a surprise that a person as unhinged as Trump ends up as a popular representative in an act of antithetical revenge on this politcal climate that preceeded him and is still at large ?
Anyone however who have lived in a somewhat politcally correct space of opinios on the issues pertaining to Trump might naturally be completely bewildered at how this can occur but that is not a testimony to the strangeness of Trump or his followers but to how people with "acceptable" opinions have not discovered that they are not allowed to deviate from the opinions they hold.
It is more than freedom of speech. It is the problem that occurs when large populations and institutions settle on what is the right thing to value and do so with complete conviction that their set of valuations are the right ones, not as a matter of opinion but as if it was a matter of fact and any but some alterations outside a narrow domain of tolerance must be forcefully rejected AND they have the means to enforce such rejections at multiple levels in society.
I know I am speaking in the abstract here and will keep it that way due to the platform limitations caused by what I just alluded to.
Make no misstake Sam, you are a powerful voice and your failure to recognize the core issue that torments the people of the Trump movement makes you a contributer to it - like it or not.

I love the honesty here, and yet I sense that believing this race to be unwinnable, however unescapable that perception may be, could become a self-fulfilling prophesy. We are in unknown political territory where even our most astute political observers can’t see through the fog. And so it seems that our democracy may depend on summoning the same kind of optimism that guides athletes when the odds are against them to give the challenge ahead everything they’ve got, even with Biden at the top of the ticket. Because this could be the election that seals our political fate far beyond the four years in question.

So many people believe Donald Trump is a terrible leader because of his flamboyant rudeness. I just don't see how "bringing out the worst in everyone" is an accurate description of his political career. You have ignored his many accomplishments: prison reforms, hostage releases, economic growth, and trade reforms. Surely these are not examples of bringing out the worse.
Sam doesn't have the slightest concern for or first clue about policy. He's unaffected by economic policies because he's extremely wealthy and insulated from the consequences of Democrat policies. This is all fashion for someone like him. And therefore it's all about personality. Sam thinks the president should reflect his own ideals regarding his own inflated sense of intelligence and sees Trump as the ultimate bully that threatens the world that sam lives in - a world where smart elites like him get to run the country because they know what's best for everyone because they're so smart. Trump and his voters basically just want a strong economy so we can live better and protect our future. But Sam doesn't understand that because he doesn't understand poverty and that's why he views you as scum for voting for Trump

Well, in a sense, it was stolen. The media industrial complex which, until Elon's acquisition of Twitter, has been ruled by Democrats, censored information that would have been detrimental to the Biden campaign, and amplified info that was harmful to Trump. Therefore, given the critical role the flow of information plays in the political theater, it's understandable that Trump would contest the fairness of the entire process.

Rather ironic that evangelical Christian’s looking for Jesus eventual return (and their disappointment he hasn’t come back) seem to have abandoned Christianity in favor of Trumpism.
