  • Footage from around my neighbourhood in Hong Kong.
1Dc still a great camera at 12 years old.

I always tell people.. If I had to live somewhere other than the US, it would either be London, Copenhagen, or Hong Kong. Loved my time there, especially while doing photography. It reminded me a little of New York, but mixed with some San Francisco, and Asia obviously. Anyway, nice video man.. Footage looked good !

Thank you! Hong Kong is a great place for photography and film making - so much contrast in terms of old and modern and cultural diversity. Looking forward to visiting New York sometime.

Lovely! I like the handheld shots, shows the 1DC + 24-105L combo can produce some brilliant results in good hands. Also, thanks again for bringing me back to a neighbourhood with a lot of memories. Would usually go to Dong Kee on the 2nd floor of Sheung Wan food centre to have a beer and HK dai pai dong style food for dinner/supper after walking around the area

Thanks Lippy! These images are from a few years ago & finally got around to editing & grading. The old 1Dc is still one of my favourite cameras - not as sharp and clean as the newer cameras but has something unique nonetheless. Some of the shops and restaurants have changed in Sheung Wan since this footage was taken but the neighbourhood has not lost it's charm. I sometimes visit the food centre for a meal also :)

Always impressed to see your work. I‘m about to upgrade from a 5D III with magic lantern. Would you recommend a 1DC or EOS R5?

Thanks for watching and appreciate your comment. In regard to the 1DC or R5, I think it comes down to preference of how the image looks, how you like to work and how much you want to spend. I still love the image from the 1Dc but it lacks a lot of features that the newer cameras have.

Nice! How do you like Hong Kong? It's always fascinated me as a place to live, but seems expensive vs the UK. Re: the 1DC... I think for it's current ebay price, it still has the most filmic 4K 24p we can get! (in that price range)

Thanks for watching. I've lived Hong Kong for 14 years and still enjoy it here. Rent is expensive but other living expenses are not too bad. The 1Dc can't compete with newer cameras for things like focus and exposure aids etc but I still love the colour and look of the image it produces. I find particularly there's a lot of depth and density with the colour which is impressive considering it's only an 8bit 422 codec. It's not very sharp but ironic that some film makers go to a lot trouble choosing vintage lenses and and mist filters etc to have a less digital and sterile look with newer cameras - the 1Dc has an organic and filmic image straight out of the camera.

@@csound55 Interesting, thanks for the info on HK. From what I've seen, we'd pay a lot in rent to live in a tiny apartment, right?
Totally agree on the 1DC. Sucks for the lack of modern features. You need to add a monitor just for the basic exposure tools! Totally agree regarding the cinematic image and the 8-bit codec. It seems to do WAY better than most cameras in this (current ebay) price range for cinematic BACKLIGHTING, too. Just the way it handles shadows etc. Really hard to describe.

@@FrankCastleTIG Indeed the rent you'd pay for a 3 bedroom apartment in many countries would only get you a shoe box in Hong Kong.
