My name is Matthew and I live in a van. I lost my job due to "cut backs" from the pandemic of 2020 and decided to seriously restructure my life. I am also a single dad who needed to find a solution that would allow me to remain in my daughter's life and plan for her future. After tons of research into #vanlife, I knew it was for me.
From March 2021 until October 2021 I spent my days building out my Chevrolet Express 2500, which came to be known as "Lucky" and as of October 18, 2021 I have been living in Lucky full time.
The build was done with almost no experience on my end and I used the one incredible tool I had at my disposal - the internet - to learn what I needed to build Lucky into a very comfortable tiny home.
I have always had a bit of a passion for being in front of the camera and really enjoy capturing the world around us. This really played into how I was feeling after almost a year of working from home when I "commuted" from the bedroom to the couch. I was starting to feel extremely unhealthy, unmotivated and despondent. I HATED that, and that's not a word I like to throw around. This new lifestyle gives me opportunities I just didn't have before and I am so excited to be able to share it all with you.
I truly believe we all have the capabilities to turn our lives around, should we choose to do so - and if I can inspire you to shoot for something better then I have done a decent job and that will keep me going.
There is more to life than the consume, consume, spend, spend lifestyle I feel we have all been conditioned to follow and I just want to do the best I can for myself first and foremost. Our time is limited and I do not want to waste another second on a lifestyle that doesn't bring me joy!

My kitty totally understands Penny’s irritation with her cookies not covering the bottom of her bowl. Bella yowls at me when she can see the bottom of her dish.

Little trick o learned about a "hole on the cat food bowl"..when she's not looking,shift the bowl enough to cover the hole,and she might think you added more food..
My goodness, you are VERY serious about your cereal! It's always enjoyable to watch you putter around your home, changing things out, etc. I'm glad Penny has a cooling bed for the summer. The awning, I suspect, will tell a tale. The Smittybilt did you proud! Hopefully you'll get another 7 years with the "new" awning.
I was in Calgary this past weekend and it was so very neat to see all the places you go to. In fact I thought maybe I saw you and waved just in case it was you lol. Either way it was lovely to see the places you go to and spend time at. Take care Matthew and Penny!

Awww...someone in the comments has a cat named bella...mom had one too..good memories....on the after comments from the live chat...I had blathering on about seeing jeeps with ducks in them ...after all those, we still saw 2 today....it's become a new retirement sport or hobby....casing store etc parking lots for jeeps with ducks...nothing like driving down the road, a jeep passes , and someone yells DUCK....lol

That awning has been through a lot to have made it this far in its life. So long awning! lol
With all of the signs that you keep getting soon you are going to have to put them on the ceiling
I have the same light remote in my box van. I lose it a lot. It has Velcro on the back and I have tiny Velcro pads everywhere so I can stick it up. (If I remember)
As I have imagined myself saying, “HOW can I lose something in 80 square feet?”😆
Why does Penny keep playing like she is laying down sleep every time Matthew opens the door… I think her response was so adorable.
You have to size your wire to your circuit breaker. So if you plan on installing a 100 amp circuit breaker, then you NEED to change the wire to 4 awg or 2 awg copper, or 2 AWG, 1 AWG, or 1/0 AWG for aluminum or copper-clad wiring. This from my husband

The wire that’s getting hot is getting resistance from inside the wire. It may have broken strands under the shielding and will need replacing..

As an industrial electrician the over heating wire was most likely caused by a loose or poor connection. On your old breaker you shouldn't terminate fine stranded wire with out "tinning" it with solder to make it more solid so it can be properly tightened. The cramped lugs should solve your problem and the new breaker of course.

Well. After 20 years of making camper vans. It's all about the quality of cable. There are 2 types IV come across. Copper covered aluminium, and pure copper. The advice I'd say is use 100% pure copper wire. And avoid aluminium as it cracks and then reduces the current the wire can carry and then heats up the wire. Hope this helps.

New wiring looks good. If you ever need to use a set screw like that again, you might also want to use a ferrule with stranded wire. Using the switch part shouldn’t affect the part, but each time those resettable fuses (yes even the new one) pop, it reduces the effectiveness. Usually it makes them slower to pop.
How has Craze been doing since the break-in?
I have those "fuse" things too. I believe they are meant to be one directional (mine has in/out displayed). Perhaps the first one was not oriented the right way and caused it to fail. Good to see it was an easy solve though. Unlike the awning.

Hi Mathew . my experience tells me the reason that old braker was heating up is the way the cables connected to it . its a poor design . you shalt not have any issues with the new one . Cheers !
Tie something to the end of some string and hang it above where you want the level. The string with whight on the end of it will always be level

What about putting one of those netting mesh things on the back of your driver's seat and put that stuff you have on the counter in there like some kind of thing like that that would hang on the back of the driver's

Get some binder clips to hold Penny's new bed in place. That slippery fabric will scooch around when she is getting into/out of the cat loft.

Yes, main water feeder pipe for the city broke and then they had to go further down the line and do some additional repair / replacement.

I thought you were going to down amps to 60 on the breaker, also, your new type of battery. Probably gets more of a trickle charge, should check out. And hope you have a cover, so it doesn't short out in future with lines.
