My name is Matthew and I live in a van. I lost my job due to "cut backs" from the pandemic of 2020 and decided to seriously restructure my life. I am also a single dad who needed to find a solution that would allow me to remain in my daughter's life and plan for her future. After tons of research into #vanlife, I knew it was for me.
From March 2021 until October 2021 I spent my days building out my Chevrolet Express 2500, which came to be known as "Lucky" and as of October 18, 2021 I have been living in Lucky full time.
The build was done with almost no experience on my end and I used the one incredible tool I had at my disposal - the internet - to learn what I needed to build Lucky into a very comfortable tiny home.
I have always had a bit of a passion for being in front of the camera and really enjoy capturing the world around us. This really played into how I was feeling after almost a year of working from home when I "commuted" from the bedroom to the couch. I was starting to feel extremely unhealthy, unmotivated and despondent. I HATED that, and that's not a word I like to throw around. This new lifestyle gives me opportunities I just didn't have before and I am so excited to be able to share it all with you.
I truly believe we all have the capabilities to turn our lives around, should we choose to do so - and if I can inspire you to shoot for something better then I have done a decent job and that will keep me going.
There is more to life than the consume, consume, spend, spend lifestyle I feel we have all been conditioned to follow and I just want to do the best I can for myself first and foremost. Our time is limited and I do not want to waste another second on a lifestyle that doesn't bring me joy!
Be Happy, Be Creative, Be Yourself and BE POSITIVE!

When the sun hits glass, it heats the inside, like a green house effect. If you put the cardboard on the outside of the windsheild, shading the glass, it makes a big difference, kinda ghetto, I know.

You are looking much more comfortable this morning. Cardboard in the window is great idea, hopefully it doesn’t bend under the weight or condensation from the hoses. Duct tape will be your friend. Loved the dumpster diving, nothing like getting the cardboard for free. Fingers crossed for your 3d coupler part, then you’ll be able to enjoy your eco flow ac and be real comfortable inside Lucky. Hope your folks will be alright in BC, but also that you have a good time on your trip. It will be nice and fun to have a summer vacation in Montana. ❤😊😺

I am in the process of problem solving the same "heat" and A/C install process in my Ford Transit high roof van.
(I live in the So. California area)
Fabricate a "adapter panel/hose connector" that would fit into your "ceiling fan" opening to exhaust the "heat" side of your A/C.
Pull the already cooled "intake" air side from inside the van as you are currently doing.
Construction: 1/8" plywood, attach the panel to the fan with neodymium bar magnets, and a hose flange would create a easy low cost DIY project.
And when not in use, the panel will require a smaller space to store than what you are currently using...
Not to mention the increase "security" instead of leaving the side window lowered for venting.
Since heat rises, it is more efficient moving the exhaust heat "upwards" than sideways...
    Tech Tip...
Shorter hose runs and/or less bends makes exhausting the A/C more efficient, (creates less back pressure), and will increase its efficiency, thus keep your van interior space cooler.
So as a bonus, running the ceiling fan on "low" will also assist in assisting in removing the hot A/C exhaust. (Less back pressure)
(And prevent the bugs from flying in)
I am hoping that if you make this a video, you will be the first to post this idea...
I am a new subscriber...Keep up on the "Quality Content" ;)
Good luck, and hope to hear from you soon.

You could diminish the size of the area that need to be cooled by using your curtain that separate the driving seat from thd cargo area.
I bet the rear/body of the AC is hot as hell, so it would help in this regard as well.
As for charging the ecoflow battery, instead of running the engine, you could go to the public library, enjoy the AC there and charge the big battery at the same time.
Dunno if cats in a transportation cafe are allowed there though.

This might be a dumb question- but why does the air conditioner use the gas in the vehicle? Is it the same for the heat in the winter??…
Again- my apologies for the potentially dumb question?…

27:49 The Eco flow is bringing in outside air to cool, (hence the two pipes) wont work any less hard with the van engine pre-cooling the space

    • @VanlifePLUS
      @VanlifePLUS  Місяць тому +2

But when it senses the ambient temperature it doesn’t work as hard so with the van running it will get to that point sooner 😊

@@VanlifePLUS i would say, yes the cool air from the van triggers the delta to throttle down, so essentially, the vans doing the majority of the cooling, but... if you set the delta to recirculate, just bring the intake hose in, it will run much more efficiently

@@OutbackOntario when you say delta I assume you mean the Wave 2. I don’t think it has a recirculate mode

@@VanlifePLUSI would assume removing the inlet duct from the nicely fabricated window adaptor, and placing the duct facing the living space would recirculate and re cool the air. (Assuming that this machine pulls its fresh air to cool from one of the ducts)

Hvac guy here, you don't want your intake within 6 feet (whatever that is in Canadian 😅) of the exhaust.

In my experience, if you let the intake, intake the cooler in the van it will cool it more and spit it back out. Taking the hot air from outside makes it work harder cooling the hot air.

FYI you don’t need both hoses vented outside, just the heated air. The a/c will work less to intake from the cooler air already inside the van.

I don’t think this is true when it comes to how the wave 2 works. I tested it in Montana

@@VanlifePLUS Hmmmm I’ve tested it with the Mark 2 and now a 10,000 BTU portable a/c. Both worked better. I also insulated the heat exhaust hose which was a game changer. I have watched you since the beginning. Nice to see how things have progressed for you.
BTW I lost my dog when you lost your cat and now I’m going to have surgery on my back. As a nomad, I feel more confident since seeing how you handled your surgery. Thanks for all the videos 😀🚐…

Would you have to use the hoses out the window using the heater???

Open one door on your vehicle, open and shut another door a couple of times. This will force the hotter trapped air out of your car when you get in and help cool it faster.
