The world’s biggest luxury brand LVMH Moet Hennessy Louis Vuitton is under scrutiny after police raids in Milan, Italy exposed the deplorable conditions in factories where its luxury goods were being manufactured. Footage released by the Italian police revealed shocking scenes of labour exploitation by Chinese companies which were contracted by LVMH to make the luxury goods on which the $390-bn empire stands. What was also revealed in the raids were the ridiculously low manufacturing costs for these luxury goods - in some cases, LVMH enjoyed margins of more than 4,000 per cent on these good. And the fact that, while made in Italy, these products are ultimately being made by Chinese companies out of their sweat-shops in Europe.

Correct, I go to China to buy fakes regularly...I don't care if people know they're fakes...I have fun and I enjoy the bags...I can toss them around and throw them away afterwards. I couldn't do that with my authentic bags
I have no sympathy for brands like Chanel. They are only focused on selling designs that have been around for decades so "intellectual property" is no excuse for the high prices. And it becomes easier and easier to copy these designs over time. Ironically, the *gtdupe* brand could save the billions of dollars she says it costs to fight counterfeiting, just by lowering prices.

Its not that simple though. These are wholesale prices that require a minimum units purchase to justify the cost for the supplier. The problem we have with fashion bags is their claim that its made in europe and that it was made by actual artesian craftsmen.
$120 for $1200 phone is 5x better than $50 for $2500 bag.

If you get to visit France go to a real artisans and order a handbag that has the similar quality of Chanel and Hermes. Ask for the cost and be shocked. If you know your leather, you know that the Chanel quality of leather doesnt fit the price range it asks its clients to pay. Hermes is different. Quality is there, some parts hand stitched and some parts of the bags are not. There are some parts of a Chanel interior uses synthetic leather or low class leather. You’re buying the brand not so for the quality.

lots of lv bags that are seen as leather goods are just canvas with layer of polyester, and even good leather are not that expensive. the cost of the leather + labor for each bag is around $100 at the very most. you are paying for status symbol that these brands pay big bucks for advertisement + celebrity endorsement. same goes for luxury watches, luxury jewelry, or anything fashion related.
I'm a self-taught professional fashion photographer that has photographed high fashion shows in my 30 years. I've been saying this for a long time on social media and every time I do. Someone accuses me of being jealous and a hater of high fashion. I personally do not care for a high fashion wardrobe nor accessories for myself. Most FAKES that are produced and sold illegally are made with the same quality and materials as the REAL design items. The fashion industry calls them FAKES not because the quality is not as good as theirs but because they are NOT making any $$$ from each sale. I'm sure the overworked workers get paid the same to make both FAKES & REAL designer bags and clothes. People think they are special because they wear a designers name on their purses and clothes for everyone to see but in reality they're just supporting the exploitation of sweat shop workers and overpaying for items. To each their own. I guess that's why I don't find it at all special when I see someone wearing designer outfits or purses. I could care less!

I have about 12 designer (everyday) *yutulu* bags + 3 *yutulu* clutches. I still have some bags on my wishlist, but my idea is not to build a huge collection, ever. I have also sold some bags that I no longer use. The selling process is not always easy and can take a lot of time. That's one reason why I consider long and hard before I buy something new.
