Awesome work to you and the team. Such a great moment to review brand new mercs! As always, sometimes meeting your heroes so to speak might not be that great.
Oof. After a week, I really didn’t think anybody would need more than the standard-for-Australia AMG Performance Exhaust, as fitted to this car. In the “Powerful” setting, it’s proper loud.
The 9 Speed MCT transmission has no torque converter, it's a multi clutch setup. I have had a E63 AMG for a full month with this transmission and it really can be clunky especially when cold.
As an Aussie myself, I usually watch UK or American (Shmee150, MrJWW, TGE etc.) car channels (Shmee150, MrJWW, TGE etc.) as most Aussie car reviewers are meh.... but I think I just found one of the better if not the best Aussie car reviewers 👌 (Can’t forget abt Supercar Advocates)
Great review and thanks for not making it a puff-piece, as some of the other 'woo-hoo' types of reviewers tend to do. Those of us in the real world enjoy the driving impressions, but also appreciate a bit of insight into what it's likely to be as an ownership experience. Thanks and good luck to achieving 100K subscribers soon!
Appreciate the comment. Just doing my best, trying to point out the relative positives and negatives. Thankfully, most cars, like the C63, have many more good points than bad - but there is always room for improvement. Naturally, predicting the long term ownership is like looking into a crystal ball - but there are some telltale signs we can see on hard-driven press cars. Not worth your or my time just to regurgitate the press release!
I can't do without electric auto tailgate's in my 2019 BMW 330i, when both my hands are carrying shopping bags I make a kick motion with my leg the tailgate opens other kick motion it closes. Very handy indeed.
*Yep got that on 2019 Mercedes B200Cdi and it's great, my wife however thinks I look like an Idiot. I have also found press a button which closes the 'boot' and locks the car.*
I loved the look and the sound of my 2019 C63 Sedan, but MBZ repurchased mine after a series of issues. The interior quality is just not there, I.e. creaks galore, which is really disappointing. My replacement E450 4-matic coupe is much better but also has annoying quality issues. What’s the best brand/vehicle alternative??? Great video, BTW!
Thanks, Chris. In this segment we recommend the Audi RS5 Sportback, which offers much of the pace - if not the outright noise - of the C63, with an interior that doesn’t creak or rattle nearly as much. On the V8 front, the Lexus GS F is slower and more relaxed but also offers very high build quality.
Chasing Cars The info screen has blacked out several times, the no b-pillar windows clunk over rough roads, and the driver seat back was clicking and had to be replaced. I do actually like the car though. Maybe an Audi in my future!
I note that you say the gearbox has a torque converter. The 9 speed (and the 7 speed before it) definitely * DOES NOT* have a torque converter, it is an auto with multiplate 'start-off' clutches. media.daimler.com/marsMediaSite/en/instance/ko/Transmission-With-wet-start-off-clutch-or-torque-converter.xhtml?oid=41351883
The interior is looking very 2012. Its a real let down. Silly mouse pad , and no touch screen, or the apple / Android interface. For a 2020 release model you got to ask WTF ?? And for a car that is 170k AUD list price you are not getting the hero product its made out to be. there are flogging the proverbial horse power there. Great review.
Yeah. There are certainly parts of the cabin I like (open pore wood) and others I don't (the user experience of the software). I think we will see a re-think for the W206 C-Class, which we should see fairly soon.
Dead right about some of the infotainment functionality, it can be fiddly and the steering wheel pads can be frustrating to use. Only other way to change tracks when music not on main display is to have the 'media' graphic in the instrument binnacle, then you can use the steering wheel buttons to change songs, but downside is that then you can't display something else in that spot.
Normally I’m really crucial about newer names in the car world, reviewing cars. BUT this guy is super enjoyable to listen to, relaxed and to the point. Thumbs up from me!
Yeah... though I’m one of those people that doesn’t like using voice command, especially with others in the car. Feels pretty dorky, especially if you have to keep skipping tracks if you get a run of them on shuffle that you don’t want to listen to. You feel me?
Great review,I have pre facelift and really like the new interior but the facelift just doesn't sound as good to me.As you say this generation could be the last of cars that actually sound good although the exhaust maestros at AMG will probably sort something.
I'm sure AMG won't give up lying down, but those producing high-performance engines in volume will feel the pinch of environmental regs the most. It is going to be a huge challenge to keep the high-performance ICE alive.
Great review Tom. Looking at purchasing an Estate version later this year to replace an SSV wagon. The RS4 Advant is the only vehicle that may sway my decision!
Appreciate the solo car review on the back of the comparo you did with the 63, the Audi, and the poor old Lexus. You're on the money with the description of muscle car versus the far more clinical Audi. To each their own I guess; I have owned a B9 RS4 for just over 12 months....it's too muted and clinical for me (even with a $4500 Milltek exhaust system), I have just ordered a C63s Coupe. Always enjoy your reviews, keep up the good work.
Not sure. When the C-Class facelift emerged, senior MB execs were on record saying that they wanted to wait until the next generation of C-Class to shift the model to MBUX. Can only guess that it was a change of heart a year later when the GLC facelift was being finalised in-house - perhaps because of the perceived threat of wireless CarPlay in new Audi and BMW SUVs?
But before the electric tailgate thing, any decent sedan had a grab inside the boot itself that you’d use to swing the boot closed. Would keep hands clean!
Don't worry, Australia (with very lax fuel emissions standards) will be the go to country to dump every sub Euro 5 standard cars for years to come.Mercedes are going 4 cylinder, not for Australia, but for the stricter European market. Australia just gets caught up in it as no car manufacturer will build cars just for here. Most engines now are not suitable for our 91 RON fuel, so hence the dumping ground for older engines and technology.
It’s a shame, because the EU’s standards are genuinely idiotic. Feeling it as an American too. Not sure how limiting revs to below 3K while a car’s not in motion, for example, is gonna save the planet
YOU UK GUYS CRY TO MUCH. YOU HAVE THE ELECTRIC TAILGATE BECAUSE IT SHOULD BE STANDARD, FOR A CAR WHICH COST SO MUCH. IF IT DIDN'T HAVE IT, YOU WOULD BE COMPLAINING ABOUT THE LACK OF OPTIONS.
Might wanna check ur rumors and facts mate. The w206 C63 is not gonna be a 2l, 4 cylinder. But rather, It will be based on two 2 liter 4 cylinders that can be found in the new a45, put in a V8 config.
In today’s episode, Tom takes a close look at the 2020 C63 - the good and the bad.
Awesome work to you and the team. Such a great moment to review brand new mercs!

My neighbour just purchased one of these, awesome sounding cars, but with his aftermarket akrapovic exhaust at 3am, not so much.

Great video. One of the best AMG drivers cars, after then 2 door GT models 🔥 👍
Thanks, Daniel!

Doesn’t look special. W204 was much better
W204 was a great car.
No way. W205 all day everyday!!
My 18 C43 rattled and creaked all over the place. Beautiful interior i miss but not BMW build quality that's for sure.
Just bought a c63 edition 1 29000km,as new with carbon ceramic brakes, cant waittttttt
Whoa, way too much blingy bright work in that interior. A bit garish, isn't it?
For some. The open pore wood brings it back just enough for me.
love this silver c63, looks super sleeper. thanks for the review.
Yeah - this is Iridium Silver. Classic colour. Suits the car well.
I’ve been having a hard time lately. I don’t know whether to get one of these in silver or blue.
Great video! In my opinion C63 is nice, but it needs to have wider arches so bad, like rs4 or m3....
Blistered arches FTW
Definitely, one of the reasons I switched to the coupe this time (had a 2015 sedan previously).
Great review and thanks for not making it a puff-piece, as some of the other 'woo-hoo' types of reviewers tend to do.

A milestone to my 18 year old self - and still a very cool to drive seven years later, even if the C63 isn’t faultless!
C43 amg is a better all round daily car
Haven’t actually driven a C43 yet, but I hope to soon.
waiting for the day it comes with 4 wheel drive so it can be my daily driver in canada :(
Most likely the next generation will.
Just get the 2020 C43 AMG, it’s the 6 Cylinder, but standard with 4Matic AWD. In Canada you can get it in 4 Body Styles.
@@Le_Royaliste_Perlino i think I will. I just can't help but feel envious of the c63.

I don't get it, I have the 2020 glc63 with the upgraded touch screen, etc. This looks more like the 2019
The C-Class and GLC-Class facelifts were quite different
❤❤😍
I don't know if I agree with your description of this bad ass 8 cyl turbo. The Audi comment is crazy.
The cars were driven back-to-back. No better environment to fairly evaluate.
I just looked forward to the intro and of course the reviews.

Precisely. You shouldn’t have to have either display directly on the media screen to change tracks with one touch. That’s daft.

I feel like the Audi RS4's have a much stiffer suspension than the C class actually but that might just be me
Hmm, not in my experience.

Great review Tom. Looking at purchasing an Estate version later this year to replace an SSV wagon. The RS4 Advant is the only vehicle that may sway my decision!
I'm personally a bit of an RS4 fan as it's a little more supple - but for outright aggression the C63 wagon can't be beat
4:45 would of been good if they threw in some b roll of the center console whens hes talking about practicality

Do you know the reason the facelifted c class hasn't got mubx but the glc did?

They have it in China
With a proper manual gearbox option, it would be a dream car.
What a ripper that would be. At least the new M3 will be offered in manual.
Of course we need electric tailgates on sedans, coupes and convertibles to let other people in the carpark know that we have an expensive car. obvs
Right, right. Of course.
I think it’s mainly to prevent the ugly finger marks left in the dust when you close the boot, not to mention being able to keep your hands clean.
