    I lost 42 pounds on 1300 calories a day eating healthy foods and once i hit my goal I slowly added a hundred calories a week until my weight leveled out. My daily maintenance is 1800 calories per day. I’ve maintained my goal weight for 10 years! Yes some days I’m a bit over and some a bit under and it works for my body.

      That’s awesome for you! It’d be helpful if you said your activity level, height age and weight and how long it took you . I am 5’8, 43yrs, walk everyday and lift weights a couple times a week. I’ve lost weight at 2,200+ calories a day, and my maintenance is around 2,400 a day. 1,300 would be crazy low for me. Depends on muscle mass, fiber/protein/, activity, and your stats. Goes to show so many people are different and why for someone who doesn’t have the knowledge base to not follow some random calorie restriction.

      @@selen5487I think it can and it's true that it's very individual. However, the available evidence on long-term maintenance of weight loss suggests that in general, the most sustainable weight loss is achieved through no more than a 100-150 calorie deficit. Why? Because this supports fat loss but limits muscle loss, which will happen if your deficit is too big. If it worked for you I'm certainly glad, but the data shows that for most people, 1300 kcals is too big a deficit and therefore likely to lead to less sustainable weight loss.

      I wear a Fitbit so I know how many calories I burn a day. It helps to know how much I need to maintain or lose weight. Most days I average about the same, but some days when I’m more active I burn more calories so the Fitbit really helps that way on my more active days I’m not too low with my calories. Some of the apps guess based on your activity levels how many calories you need, but the apps I used always guessed too low…so I find wearing a Fitbit is the most accurate in knowing how many calories you’re actually burning a day.

    Brazilian Girl here again 🙋🏻‍♀️: for the BEST rice 🍚 of your life: soak for an hour and a half with a little vinegar, strain for 20 minutes, olive oil onions garlic (our unofficial holy trinity!) in a pot for a couple of minutes, add rice and hot water to barely cover it, reduce to low with pan half covered. DO NOT TOUCH IT!!! Just monitor it (around 30 minutes or until you get a spoon and can see bottom of pot), close the lid and turn off stove to let it steam for 5 minutes. Done ✅🇧🇷 9:11

    Abbie I wish you would acknowledge the fact that for petite women even highly active ones may need this caloric amount for weight loss. Additionally the higher body fat percentage you have the safer you are eating a lower threshold daily of calories because you have adipose tissue to pull nutrients from. You can infact go below a BMR. If you're eating whole natural foods 1200 cals is alot of food especially aiming for 120 g of protein and 25 to 30 g of fiber a day. Hardly malnourished with that ratio.

    • @emm8357
      @emm8357 Місяць тому +6

      You have basically described my diet. I’m pretty darn short and my BMR is less than 1400. I started a medication that causes weight gain so to get back down to my previous weight and feel healthy again, I’m eating 1200 calories. I don’t feel deprived and make sure to include all the things you spoke about. There are a lot of videos on here saying “1200 is not enough!” but it is for me. I’d actually struggle to eat much more than that.

    A great option to spread on bread or toast instead of butter or mayonnaise (but which is easier to keep around than avocados) is olive paste! If you like olives, that is. It comes in small jars and you refrigerate it after opening. It’s very salty so you don’t need much, but it adds tons of flavour. It’s usually made of just black olives, salt, olive oil, and sometimes a bit of herbs. It’s lovely as a sandwich spread. And while it gives you that richness that you want from butter, mayo, etc., it has no saturated fat at all, only unsaturated.

She is dairy and gluten free out of necessity, but I am not, so I don't worry about those things so much, but I do really like her idea of simplifying one's diet to include set portions along with a wide variety of ingredients, especially fruits and vegetables. I also like that she always offer vegan alternatives, even though I am not vegan; I feel that it's more inclusive and I sometimes choose those options when that is what I feel like eating. As always, your advice is great and I love your science based analysis. Glad to see you not completely criticize Liezl's approach. I love all the plant based options which you just don't see enough of in weight loss/nutrition videos, and they are all gluten free and dairy free which is the way I eat and drink. I've watched a lot of her videos, and she offers a variety of options in the different videos. I added several of her recipes I liked to my tracking app, so if I have it I just click on it and shows all the calories and macros in it. When you are a person really struggling to lose weight, you appreciate her meal plan with the calories. I figured out my BMR with a little machine I breathed into, and tried to figure out what calories work for weight loss for me. I do have a very slow metabolism. So the information she has does help I believe. Personally. Repetitive meals mon -Friday ease a lot of my food prep anxieties and weight anxieties. It’s something I don’t have to over think and breezy to prepare. More so, staying within those guidelines helps me with simplifying budget etc, and I freestyle on the weekends and see what I want to add in smaller proportions throughout the week and switch out. It’s a good place to start

    An actual dietitian put me on a 900 kcal diet for a month, then renewed it for another month when I wasn't losing weight. This guy caused me to develop severe binge eating habits. Followed by years of feeling guilty about eating anything that was the least bit calorie-dense. Some years ago, it was so bad that I cried in the supermarket trying to find something (anything) that I could/wanted to eat.

    I just wanted to add about the arsenic in rice, you actually are supposed to pre boil the rice like it were a pasta and then rinse it. The heat opens up the rice to let out the arsenic and then rinsing it eliminates most of it. Cold water rinsing alone is great but doesn’t remove the arsenic!! If you look at multiple studies by universities they all indicate that.

At the start I lost 10 lbs and have not been able to lose an extra lb since. I exercise regularly, including hiit workout, I don’t eat out. I incorporate vegetables into all my meals and also go for healthier alternatives when available. My lab numbers are excellent no metabolic or hormonal issue found. Despite doing all the “right” things weight loss have become discouragingly difficult. I’m tempted to go to a crash diet because even though it’s not healthy a least there’s movement on my scale. I love Leizl as someone who is going from intuitive eating to trying to lose weight without feeling restricted. My main attraction to her recipes is that they are quick and uncomplicated. As someone with chronic health issues that affect my energy topped off with adhd, finding the energy to make a meal is hard enough let alone then getting distracted and forgetting to make it but I've found Liezl's recipes take the thinking out of it for me enough that I don't get distracted and I don't have to dig deep just to figure out what to make and then still find the physical energy to actually make it.
    Her meal plans specifically are indispensable to me as, since all her recipes are similar in calorie range and she has so many different recipes, I can mix and match her meals as I like. Having tons of choice is great for most people but for me it tends to leave me stuck and either not eating at all or reaching for fast food because I'm too mentally exhausted and physically exhausted to even try any more. Despite that my spirit still wants the illusion of choice and I feel like Leizl has a wide enough variety of meal plan recipes that I feel like I have options and can change it up while still being simple and basic enough that I don't have the added pressure of worrying that I don't have the necessary ingredients/need to go shopping just to make them.

It is also ment to inspire ideas on how to make calorie counting more simple and how to plan your meals ahead- to be easy for you to stay on track without decision fatigue.
