Big time Michigan fan, grad and 40 year season ticket holder here. I believe if we can 9-3 or 8-4 it would be a successful year. We went 42-3 over the past 3 years and lost the head coach and other key people along with many starters on both sides of the ball. I like Coach Moore and think he's going to do a great job longer term. As long as the kids play hard, have fun, stay healthy and graduate - I am a happy fan. Go Blue!
I dont see 9-2 and 8-4 from this team they look really good and tbey are physical. Orji is alread guy a weapon himself then you are going to have Donovan Edwards in the back field. Then Fred Moore is fast. Then you got semaj in slot and Loveland at TE. They can lean on yhe defenss of they ahve to develop the offense but i just dktn see that.
That’s a GREAT mindset ! I’m not saying that from the standpoint of how many games y’all might or might not lose. I’m saying it’s awesome to see a fan who is happy if his team is putting in the effort and having fun rather than the fans we all see who give up on their team if they drop a few games or miss a run at a title. I don’t know enough about your roster to be able to speak to how well you’ll likely be, but I do like the feel you get with y’all’s new coach. Looks like a solid hire. B1G will be extra interesting this season with the new west coast teams too. Exciting times ! RTR
I'll preface this by saying, with the exception of JJ becoming QB1 in 2022, it has been almost 2 decades since we had a clear (on the field and fan favorite) QB. As long as there are good QB's on the team, I think Orji is the next Joe Milton. He's going to be the guy fans want to start, until he isn't. At that point, the season is lost. I get the added dimension now a days for QB's to be able to run, but think of all the examples you want, and they all can pass too. If you have have a good run game, you don't need a running QB, you want a mobile-ish QB that can make throws.
Qb 1 should be orji you can’t judge off one lil scrimmage. Orji was poised and looked great, obviously was a lil raw at first and still a lil is but he just needs playing time. Plus orji adds a dual threat ability which is amazing especially in red zone play, which will also help our run game cause the read option will actually be a mystery rather than most likely the running back every time.
Orji was also very consistent and kept drives going and honestly should’ve scored on that last play but it’s a scrimmage. I guarantee he would’ve scored in a real game but it’s Wtv. Plus it’s hard to indicate with the team split but for me it’s 1. Orji 2. Warren 3. Davis 4. Denegal and Tuttle I just don’t think he’s the answer and will play prob as a backup or 3rd string. Never really impressed me and would make silly mistakes, especially last years spring game trying to throw off back foot while getting tackled leading to a zeke berry pick
Of all the spring games I watched Michigan was by far the most disciplined, prepared and best tackling team. As for QB1 I still think it's Orji, his entire skillset can't be showcased when you can't touch the QB, I expect his added dimension of running to be a key factor particularly when you're replacing all 5 OL. B10 should be interesting Ohio St nor Penn St ooked crisp offensively in their spring game . Last nugget on why I think Orji will start, how important is passing at Mich? McCarthy won games barely throwing for 200yds and barely throwing at times in the 2H. Mich schedule is somewhat tough home vs Texas, USC, Oregon at Ohio St, regardless of the QB I could see them losing 2 of these games and still making the playoffs.
The problem with your analysis is, JJ could pass, but didn't have to. Look at the games JJ played, when he needed to pass to make plays/score/continue drives. He did it time and time again. If it weren't for him, Bama beats Michigan in Rose Bowl. Orji hasn't shown anyone he has that ability to complete passes. I will concede this point though, When JJ took over QB1 in 2022, it was the first time in over a decade we didn't want the back-up to come in. In my heart of hearts, I believe had it not been for Michigan playing the worst game of the season against TCU, we are back-to-back National Champions.
@melo7969 possible, however, I think you're severely undervalued this team just because it LOOKS like they lost a lot on paper. It's okay, tho. Michigan is used to getting disrespected like that.
I think most people assume orji will make bad decisions and do too much because a he’s super athletic but watch his last drive. Ball was out on time, no hesitation, just taking what’s there and moving down the field. Warren made some really good throws but he’s looked good in every spring game and not so much in season.
Exactly dont need an experiment at Quarterback when you have Donovan edwards and an Elite defense. Warren has accuracy and good pocket presence goes through his progressions.
I do think the Jack Tuttle of it all also makes this a more interesting QB battle. He's played more football than Orji or Warren. Granted, it was while he was at Indiana of all places, but it still gives him a big advantage in that regard. Frankly I wouldn't be surprised if any of the 5 guys won the job (even Denegal or Jaydn Davis). It's that wide open. But if they wanna compete for a championship this season (might be tough) they better have their guy for when Texas comes to town week 2.
As a Michigan fan, I didnt know Davis Warren was in the competition for QB1. I thought it was Orji and Denegal. But after seeing the gane, I think Warren is it and that is who I rather see. Supposedly last year Warrens throwing arm was injured and thats why he didn't look good.
We need Orji to play like bamas QB Milroe vs Texas . Some trick plays here n there. Untill rhe qbs frow more and get experience. Orji might have to out his bodh on the line vs Texas. Which i see him doing (150 yards rushing( with 210 passong and a W) oh 2 receptions

Previous post said it accurately that the fans want Alex Orji to be QB1 because of his talent and potential but feels like the Joe Milton experiment 2.0. Which seemed fine once he went to Tennessee but might not work in Michigan's scheme. Davis Warren seems like a great kid and great story but is almost has the opposite skill set of Orji which means he is more of a pro style / non mobile QB. What made JJ such a great QB was he was/is a great blend of both which made him hard to defend. IMO this year will be a tough scene for Michigan's QB situation that might mirror 2020 (hopefully not). If I'm coach Moore I look long and hard for a QB in the portal. 9-3 will be a great years for Michigan and potential playoff birth
I went to the spring game this past Saturday, as much as I like Alex sorry Davis looked good playing with the two's going against three's and four's. I wonder what type of QB Davis would have been if he did not get cancer. Alex is the QB1 going 13-18 is what Michigan looks for. Remember Alex went up against the 1's on defense.
Michigan has two QB's. Orji is the number one QB. Warren is number two. Now we wait and see how Orji does in the early season games. Warren will get some playing time, to prove himself. Injures will effect who starts games. Orji scrambles and runs the ball. Warren seems more of a pocket passer. Wait and see what happens.
This team and its scheme requires a game manager, nothing more. While most want an Orgi on the field, Warren passes the eye test for now until proven otherwise. He looked like 2021, CM. Their defense can win all their games, they just need a QB1 that doesn’t lose it for them.
Warren had good accuracy with nice zip on the ball. Michigan has to figure out how to get orji on the field. He's too talented not to be playing even if it's at WR.
