so much fun to see you do this..lol...i'm not a potter who throws mini's...i'm a miniaturist that makes lil pots....its another approach to this...i luvvv my miniwheel...but they are not all the same....some are weak by lack of rpm....the high speed i only use for centering, you showed why(giggles)..you form your piece on a lower speed, without splashing water around, as its just a lil piece of clay, and will collaps...as you noticed😆....it takes a bit of patience but its great fun to do😉...there are better miniwheels around with torq, but they are not cheap and not easy to get

That's something to consider. Good thinking, thank you. I was thinking about velcro-ing a drywall bat to the wheel. It would probably slow it down. I could remove the bat and the buttons could dry naturally.

i use a batmate and lids of jars that fit nice as bats, they are metal, and the piece just pops off when its bonedry......you can also use a small blowtorch to speed the process😊

It is absolutely fascinating to see your ability to handle something so impossible! I've not tried a wheel that small, but at the beginning of Covid I bought a more-or-less full-sized $200 Chinese wheel that has good torque and is reasonably well-regulated. I'd _love_ to see what you could do with it, and what your opinions of it are. Since it's a bit like the VEVOR, I look forward to your video about _it._
I've got too many other hobbies for me to lay down $1500 for just a pottery wheel (I made my own kiln, so that was practically free). But $200 was very much doable.
It's so exciting to see you branch out in this direction, Simon!!

I tried one of these wheels a couple years ago thinking I could make a miniature tea set and dishes for my 8 year old niece…nope! Very frustrating. I went back to my shimpo and threw small. I returned the mini wheel. 😮

I took a couple of 5mm internal diameter pulleys of different size and added to one of those. Reduced speed and increased torque. 👍

I would like to see how you did that !?

@@sleachpots cool ! I will try and make a video of it soon. But as an explanation, I used 5mm bore aluminum timing pulleys kits from Amazon. The small pulley mounts to the typical 5mm shaft of the motor. A belt is also included ( very cheap to buy the kit) the larger pulley holds the wheel head where an extra 5mm shaft is coming out of a block of wood mounted to the original metal box. Was a fun low cost project and can throw small lumps of clay at slow speeds without the pressure stopping the motor. I think I’m going to just take out all the parts from the original and just build a wooden small unit . I will try to post a video. It really does work well !

I make buttons, I think this baby wheel may be useful to me keeping them round. Anyone have an opionion?

I'm not sure this would be a good option for a flat button, as the shape would distort when you try to remove it from the wheel. If you make fun shaped buttons, like round ball shapes, this might be fun to try.

I suppose if you where homeless you could throw that in your backpack and hang out at the local Starbucks and make little espresso cups for the yuppies?
