- Day 20: Matthew 27:46
46 And about the ninth hour Jesus cried out with a loud voice, saying, “Eli, Eli, lema sabachthani?” that is, “My God, my God, why have you forsaken me?”
Prayer Lesson: Yesterday we looked at one of the most moving moments of Jesus on the cross. Today we see one of the most shocking. Jesus asks God, “Why have you forsaken me?” We saw in Gethsemane that Jesus was on board with God’s plan for Him on the cross. However, it appears that Jesus is feeling betrayed by the Father. It’s not betrayal that He was feeling. In His emotions He was feeling despair and abandonment. He was in the midst of enduring the wrath of the Father for the sin’s of all mankind. For a split second, Jesus would die and be separated from the Father. He was not doubting, He was expressing how He felt in the moment. What a great example for us. In prayer, don’t be shy to express the true emotions you are feeling. God’s not looking for fancy prayers, He’s looking for honest prayers.
Prayer for Today: How are you feeling today? Perhaps there’s thoughts you’re having that you would never dream of sharing with others. Don’t worry about asking for anything today, just take time and share with God how you are feeling. Share your joys, hurts, and hopes with Him today.
