35:09 If you really want to conquer Caucasia, release Trebizond as a vassal, make them a pronoia and feed them all provinces with Georgian culture.. Trebizond can use the mission "Georgian Union" in the mission tree to convert Georgian to Greco-Georgian, which saves you a place in the accepted cultures. And a little Bonus: With the "Chaldian Deposits" mission in the mission tree, Trebizond can change the trade goods in his capital Trebizond from Naval supplies to Gold and in Erzurum from Livestock to Copper.
@cedricl.marquard6273 No, they called themselves Roman's. Byzantine is a Western invention to separate them(Eastern Roman Empire) from the Roman Empire because of the creation of the Holy Roman Empire in the West.
@p.r.o.d9685 But wasn't Byzantine invented even later than the HRE? To basically distinguish between when the West was still present to when the east became more and more graerified? That's what I always thought. Basically that the "Byzantine" is once the Empire becomes more than a subdivision of the Roman Empire
My advice for playing Byz: Pronoia are actually very important - they don't take a relation slot, and you need at least two if you want the standing army branching missions (which also make them stronger). Religious is op, because of missionary strength buffs and tolerance of the true faith. It can be better to convert freshly taken provinces before coring them, since the conversions are so fast, and tolerance outweighs unrest debuffs from unaccepted cultures and the like.
I want so hard you to finish this campaign. I love Byzantium into Roman Empire. That was my first successful EU4 campaign back in 1.36 thanks to your guide. Thxs for the content !
Byzantium is always a fun run because of the sequence of bosses you have to face in order to restore the empire. You have a big initial hurdle with the ottos, then you have the mamluks, and then unless things get really wacky you still have major threats in the colonizers, france, etc.
Some notes for novices in byzantine struggle: 1)convert epirus on vassalization for prestige and lower LD, 2)declare on ottos about 1446-48, when they're gone for supporting timmies' vassals rebellion, 3)keep about 26 regiments on gallipoli, and ottos won't cross. 4)take bulgaria westerm and two eastern cores, decrease autonomy, then provoke - ottos can't land and fight rebels back, and in 5 years bulgaria is yours. 5)declare on serbia immediately after first war, bcs reconquering them from hungary will be way harder.
Finally someone who knows how to play, however, I do prefer the morale of armies and navies so I take Cephalonia rather than vassalise. Also it allows me to let ottomans cross in small stacks for me to wipe. Hiring mercs also allows you to not need allies meaning all the money you get is for you.
Hawk you're hands down my favorite EU4 youtuber. I can't wait to see what you do with this playthrough. I'm 1600 hours into the game and I feel like my knowledge for the game has plateau'd and I'm learning less and less each time I play so being able to watch someone with wayyyy more experience might give me more ideas :)
Very excited for this playthrough, I recently tried a Byzantium run using your old guide and Aragon kept Naples for maybe the first time I've ever seen. Also, for anyone else attempting, make sure you have at least 15 galleys or you can't naval barrage Ottoman forts.
Great start! The monument in Athens pairs rally well with the gov reform to reduce the cost of advisors with ruler’s religion (and innovative and or espionage). You could be drowning in mana.
Brother I felt like playing byz for real today instead as forming them as cursed venice and after looking for a video I get this gem uploaded 1 hour ago. Good rng today also nice hair
I had a similar thing in my Aragon to Rome run where my allies Austria strongly desired all of the Ottoman lands in Anatolia as well. I very nearly lost them as an ally before I figured out what was going on. It was very odd. This was a fun video. I can't wait to see the rest of this run!
I really like these kinds of multiple part video series! I already really enjoyed the three-parter of modded exiled Byzantium and it would genuinely be exciting to see you do these series more often. I know the view count and retention get worse each part (at least from what I've seen on other EU4 channels doing these series), but they'd make for a really nice filler between A-Z and Releasables! Really excited for the future of The Red Hawk! 😎
Enjoyed the video and really love your more complete campaign with goal and all both of the Byz one are nice this one and the modded one x) Wanna see you play as LanFang too ! (formable by Sambas in indonesia)
Project Caesar is the next big game release publicly announced for Paradox, and at this point it’s been all but confirmed to be EU5 or some kind of successor to EU4
Yeah Austria for whatever reason in the most recent patch(es) always makes the Ottoman land strong interest even if they don't have any claims. It's been a bit annoying in some of my recent campaigns I've been doing
i think with a lot of the byz missions, you can get more than one reward if you satisfy multiple conditions. it's weird because it doesn't work like that for some other countries, but i believe with byz it does.
Would be nice to see you do playthrough on Europa Expanded. There's some crazy good/long mission trees and events there with the final release patch. (personal recommendation Nepales, Frankia formation, Marocco/Tunis into Andalusia)
You really don't need Religious ideas as Byzantium, with Rome and Mecca you'll get 2 free missionaries, with max patriarch authority plus the mission rewards you'll get huge missionary strength, and you will get permaclaims on every single province you need. Also you really should try out the pronoiars. With the government reform you can make a client state in land you just conquered, let them core it all for you and then inherit them for free. Its basically a 100%CCR reform, but you also get a vassal swarm on top.
watched the entirety of the video, funny how the video length is real close to 1453. I hope you continue this series, even though it will get really tedious once you get around to reconquering Western Europe...
I got lucky with Byzantium, catching the Ottoman armies on the other side of the Bosphorous. I decisively defeated their entire army after claiming the Bosphorous with my navy and then took back most of Greece, going heavy on development to build up my army for round 2.
I think you'd have more fun doing it as Trebizond. Try it out. It's genuinely VERY HARD and opens the Cappadocian culture and an opportunity for the Greco-Georgian and Grico cultures to be in. It's a damn near impossible game but it's beautiful when you get it going well.
Red Hawk's really upped his hair game. I know he already rejected the idea, but Laith's going to have to go dreadlocks if he wants to keep up the arms race.
@@zhsloe you're wrong otherwise it wouldn't be called IMPERIUM ROMANORUM Sacrum (in the original Roman language, Latin, mind you, not some barbarian eastern "Greek" or whatever)

Why wouldn't you do the mission for permanent claims on Naples before declaring? 25% extra cost to core and more expensive province war score cost, no? Also shouldn't you take the costal provinces to start the culture change mission?
Let me know if you want to see part 2!
Yes, please.
