The very first knot I learned as a little kid from the diagram on a box of Trilene mono, it has been my main knot tied in almost all applications, from Salmon to Shark, Bluegill to Bowfin, Pompano to Pike and many many more species I have caught from Florida to Alaska. There is an "Improved Trilene Knot" and I wonder how much better or possibly worse it is.
Thanks for reaching out, glad you enjoyed the video. I really enjoy testing the knots to see how they behave. Always surprises me how much they can vary also with just the slightest change. Tightlines.
Years ago I went to a sportsman show and they had a knot testing machine. I tied a trilene knot on the 10 lb stren. It broke at 13 lb and did NOT break at the knot. Great knot!
Hi Nicolas, thank you means a lot, I am Hoping to film all my content in 4K from now and for cinching/snapping 120 fps, so they should look even better. I just release my 1st 4K on how to tie the GT Actual, it was fun. Take care and thx for support Tightlines.
Good video. I recently used the improved clinch and the Trilene knots on a recent carp outing. We caught about twenty 4-10 lb. carp. The Trilene was noticeably stronger on 8 lb. mono line.
Trilene is a great knot, on thinner lines it has so much strength. It sould be the go to knot for all fly fisherman, not only is the tag end facing away but it keeps the blanket weed of in fresh water really well.
Trilene knot is my personal goto knot when tying FC/mono lines to swivels. As for braided lines, the strongest I've tried is a combi of 2 knots. FIrst, do a bimini knot, then using the loop created do a catspaw or palomar knot onto the swivel.
Hi Aaron thx for reaching out, the Trilene knot is a really good knot, I think it one of the best knots I have tested on lighter lines. It was rather interesting comparing the Uni knot with the Trilene knot when I tested these. The geometry within the knot on lighter lines really helps protect the line. You may need to check my data as I cannot remember exactly but as soon as you get too 50 or 80lb lines the Uni knot actually out performs on the heavier lines. It was almost like a tussle they had in the mid categories. I have got the other three knots on my to do list. Looking forward to checking those out. You may also be interested at looking at the Slim beauty knot I just did, I must be honest I thought it was garbage but it actually ended up doing really well. There are a few tricks to follow but worth a look at. Tightlines and thx for watching.
@@toitfishing trilene is a good n strong knot. But doing too many turns has its restrictions as the line can burn against each other when tightening. Thus also why it is also more difficult to tie using thicker lines. I've tried your Toit knot too and its really strong, but also more difficult at the finishing part. As for braided to leader, my goto is the PR bobbing knot. Slim and stronger than a lot of other knots when done properly.
Thx for trying the Toit knot, it is one of those knots that requires a knack to cinch down, partly as it’s got 2 areas to hold the tag. I have not really invested a lot of time in the PR knot but I do like all the toys you can buy to do the knot. Agreed also this knot and many others do take a while to master. Have a great weekend.
Hi there from NZ. I am really keen to try your Toit knot out fishing. I have been practicing at home. Have you compared any of the Snell knots against the Toit knot? Thank.
Hi Martin, thx for reaching out. I have got snell knots on my to do list. I think snell knots would be really good especially if the correct hook is used. Also cause the hook shank will prevent the line rubbing against itself. Tightlines.
Hi Booz Kralj, i have done this for many terminal knots including the Palomar knot Take a look here. ua-cam.com/video/3Yskxh0MC80/v-deo.html Tightlines.
Hi Kimberley, yes sure thing. Is this a knot you use for a line to line connection. We used to call the square knot a reef knot when I went to Cubs like 45 years ago.😂 Tightlines.
@@kimberlyc.3089 Morning Kimberley, I will Add this on my to do list. When you have time could you drop me an email via my website, maybe with a link etc. It would be helpful to see what the knot looks like as I have only ever seen a square knot 🪢 tied with two separate pieces of line. Tightlines and have a great weekend.

Love the close ups and the detailed tests

I use the Kryston Loop, not the strongest but the best loop and it catches the most fish
Can you test a square knot, with Two over hand knots on the tail too help prevent slippage..?
