Jason, who hid his smashed teeth when he met with Transport Minister Simeon Brown this morning, said it meant a lot to him when an elderly man intervened during the Friday-morning attack.

I understand what you're saying but Asians have not tried, for the most part, to integrate into NZ society. I live in an area where there are a lot of Asians and frankly they're quite rude. Spitting on pavements, shoving people aside in the supermarket and always talking really loud, right in people's ears non stop. Many don't or won't even speak basic English, they don't employ Kiwis, only Asians and they separate themselves from our communities and have overcrowded our schools, Drs and hospitals. New Zealand is far behind other developed nations when it comes to policing, charging, and punishing stalking, harassment, hate crimes, assaults, and that assault starting with "r" that UA-cam doesn't allow you to mention in the comments. I currently live in Canada and have been blown away by the lack of tolerance of these crimes in this country compared to NZ. If this had happened in the city I currently live in, the police would have posted the woman's CCTV pictures all over TV and social media, and by now she would be in custody and facing some heavy charges.
NZ has far to go when it comes to the 'Protect' bit of 'Serve & Protect'.
It's the same in Australia and the UK --- can't mention or show any description of the perpetrator except for what they were wearing, usually a black hoodie and jeans. They forget that people can change their clothes in about 10 seconds flat but they can't change their height, build, race and in some instances, nationality, very easily.
The police and the media treat the general public as stupid fools.

if you don't live in NZ, how do you know for the fact that NZ is behind other nations? How do you know the female was not charged? There is privacy law in NZ, which dictates the bus company's action about releasing the footages which including others in the bus. Does Canada don't run on a basic law concept that no one is guilty until proven in court? I understand in this case, it may seem straight forward, but if that's the law says, what right has TV and social media had to expose people who may have been charged, but yet to be convicted? My believe is that your understanding of law if quite far behind to common New Zealanders who living in in NZ which you described as 'far behind other developed nations'.

I was old enough to be this boy's father, but that didn't seem to bother him. I have a few years of martial arts experience, but decided not to retaliate, as I didn't want to get in legal trouble. I just kept my guard up. Something that I found very upsetting is that no one intervened, just like in this case with this young man. The driver didn't do anything in my case either. The boy continued to punch me and kick me after we got off the bus. He only stopped after his leg got really sore from all the kicking. I, on the other hand, had just some minor bruises. @@WamSUBNZ if the police are already there then they should be sorting it out?!? i have pushed trolley over when some ladies were trying to steal food from supermarket and was thanked by security. defending someone that is been attacked the police will never tell you not to do
I am not risking my life over someone's phone or wallet. If someone is getting attacked then i could maybe, but not risking my life for words or items. Also, i will be charged worse than the criminal. So why should i step in?
@@MrBrandomized that's 2 of us now with the same thing, so you got a retort?
@WamSUBNZ @@multitablez7825 this kid was attacked for no reason, if you dont stand up and support that person you are a coward!!!
Well done Jason!..Good on you!…Hope you get better as soon as possible!…Great Stand up Speech!100% correct,I hope someone does help next time!
Man this is sad sorry our Chinese Asian community
these 'China' folks weren't born and bred here unlike Bic Runga. they lack societal awareness and often go against NZ cultural norms.
Tip of the iceberg
What does that mean?
WHY ARE PEOPLE LIKE THAT TO CHINESE AND OTHER CULTURES ITS NOT GOOD HOW ARE PEOPLE TO BE SAFE AND GET TO THERE DESTINATION N NOT BE SCARED 😢😢😢😢😢
its not only chinese its other ethnic groups...last time was a Muslim girl 🤦♀️
The government must act to change the law. No name suppression for acts of VIOLENCE, no matter what age the perpetrator is.& give the DETENTION at a govt. facility. The policy on VIOLENCE must be;
NO EXCUSES: NO TOLERANCE :NO MERCY
If a person is just minding thier own business catching a bus to go somewhere you ain't got no right to lay your hands on anyone. The bus driver should've helped that to me is just common decency. I would've stood up for you. That's so unprofessional from the bus company. In Australia this guy would be suing that bus company 😂
Vote this guys dad for pm of nz. How rational, empathic, and sensible. And jason is an excellent example of a responsible, kind, and upstanding teenage kiwi.
We need more influence like this. Our western culture has moved from kindness, goodness, and progress, into violence and division. Truly a Class act my brother.
Why does it seem that some Maori have trouble with Indians and Chinese people? Like a tangent with no clear cause. One lady told me not to go to a certain dairy because the owners were Indian. I was not sure why this would matter? You would think that as victims of racism, you would understand other cultures? Could it be that they are taking their minority position in some strange way? I wonder why NZ has so much family violence and gang related stuff. What is the cause of it and why is it so unique to NZ?
Racial supremacists, especially those encouraged and rewarded by those in power and totally disassociated from any form of racism (losing a war and not having ultimate power isnt racism) as Maori often are, usually have a problem with anyone who isn't them.
@@user-jh2sr8bl8v I have many Maori friends and in general they are not racist with me (a Pakeha), but for some reason I do not understand, they all seem to have a natural resentment towards Chinese and Indians. I agree that racism is not really the issue. Is it something to do with other minorities taking their place, by becoming more numerous as a percentage of the population? There was an interesting genealogy study with Winston Peters of all people, and it showed an Asian/Indian/Polynesian heritage for Maori. Many Maori words are similar to these languages, and also the symbols like river spirits, hair pins, temple/Marae design, and more are very similar to Asia.
@liamporter6243 that's because you've no doubt been conditioned since birth to stay "in your place" as a pakeha.
Mention the slaughter of the innocents on HMS Boyd and watch your friends go into a frenzy of denial or outright abuse.
Indian business owners are well known for their dirty business tactics...
this news article is shit and incomplete , where is the in depth description of the offender ?
😢 This is so sad and cruel. Nobody in nz should hurt someone else in public they dont know and just because their culture. Think about Mana nz because this is not the kiwi way periodtt!!🤦💯
She deserves at least a year in jail for that. Straight to remand until sentencing.
@drkimble7315 - Too expensive, we'll trust them not to misbehave again.
How are laws going to stop a nutcase attacking someone on the bus?
Vile NZ racism
Maori* don't group literally every other race that seems to get along well
The Greens want us all on public transport, but I lost count of the amount of times Iv'e seen violence and threats on public transport.....all in confined spaces so its impossible to run away. I love my car.
🖕the greens.
Like i've been saying for 10 or 15 years, criminals love you to be on public transport. Hilarious how Puhinui got a new flash station but a literal 1 minute walk away it's dark alleyways and bushes LMAO
Poor mum looks inconsolable 😢 I hope the community pulls around you and makes you feel safe again 🙏🏻💔
police need to make a search this woman and arrest her this unacceptable bus transportation is supposed to be safe, but we are getting more incidents which needs to stop.
I’m hearing lots of “safe” this “safe” that… what exactly does that mean? More police? More cameras? A social credit system? What are they asking for?
I am a 25 year emigrant of NZ. There is wholly insufficient protection for emigrants in NZ who are victims of racist statements and actions. I emphasize and feel huge sympathy for the victim in this case. Sadly this blow over until the next incident. All emigrants need to get together under the umbrella of protesting for our human and legal rights to be upheld in NZ. We have much right as every Kiwi to be in NZ!!! Most emigrants I know also contribute much more to the economy of this country than Kiwi's do.
- We have much right as every Kiwi to be in NZ
On paper yes.
- Most emigrants I know also contribute much more to the economy of this country than Kiwi's do.
Proof?
Maybe its time we are allowed to arm ourselves. Since the cops cannot protect us, let us defend ourselves with whatever means.
Don't let this incident affect the Way you see this Country...Only a few Spoil it for the Rest of us Who respect all Ethnicity and Cultures in this Nation 🙏
@@sara.cbc92 There are many hard workers in NZ who are not immigrants. That statement in itself could be considered racist?
Unfortunately your comment is entirely inappropriate. Kiwis have built the whole infrastructure of this country and everything you benefit from. Our ancestors fought for Britain to protect our freedom and free speech, many lost their lives. Immigrants have done none of that. It's an immigrant's job to integrate and add value to a country that they CHOOSE to live and it's a privilege for an immigrant to be allowed to live in another country. Your comment is anti Kiwi and offensive. I speak myself as an immigrant to New Zealand. Check your superior attitude.
This violence incident damages NZ's reputation, this horrible behaviour is totally unacceptable and it cannot be tolerated.

Terribly sad.
Usual suspects that attacked him
There should be a way of identifying the attacker. Looking forward to an update on this incident from the police or media.
No matter what nationally someone can help the poor boy.that is so not fair. Who she thinks she is.😡
The hidden side of New Zealand! This is definitely NOT the first time and sadly will NOT be the last time!!! It’s just the first time it has got media coverage! Migrants and minority communities have been targeted for years of all ages!!! This shouldn’t even be happening but the crazy thing is that their are still implicit bias/ small minded attitudes here in our own backyard that reveals how ignorant and lack of kindness within our so-called ‘multi-cultural society!!! Kia Kaha to this family and their community!!! If we do not stand against such behavior, we are on a slippery slope to destruction!!!

Wasn't there a surveillance camera on board the bus ?
