That's exactly the problem here. They do use cheaper quality components to reach those prices and they tend to melt down with heavy use. The ones that died on me were the one in my boat, and the one I carried every day. They run too hot and don't care about the damage that happens with longterm hard use. They are fine with drops on medium but one good bump after running on high and they can fail easily. I still have a few but I have 2 4sevens and 2 surefire that I had before I ever had an olight they're still with me. One 4sevens spent a winter in a snow drift, found in spring and has been run over by my jeep on pavement. My olight died from being bumped while hot, and they should probably do some work to solve for that. Hopefully they are listening.

@@SurvivalistMedia Mine have been used and abused and run hard and none have failed. My EDC has been Olight for a decade and no amount of physical damage has caused any problems. Obviously all companies should strive to improve, but Olight does receive a disproportionate amount of online abuse, normally from people that have never owned one.

    • @SurvivalistMedia

@@Vormulac1 I really believe they know about the heat breakage issues. I have them at my shop where they get tons of abuse, but rarely get run on turbo. Their price and success in my shop made me deploy them for an option as a boat spotlight where I finally used turbo and high for extended periods. I'd wager the cost cutting is in components like silicone boards and wires that are less heat resistant or that have less shielding from heat. I know they're working on it, they certainly seem like they're trying to be a global leader in lights.

I've had them on the farm for years, While I don't use the as hammers, they are very used in a working, real life environment.
I only use high quality batteries.
    All of them work perfectly.
Every few days, we are charging 1 or 2 because we have no outside lights on our 160+ acre farm with horses, cattle, hogs and dogs. An Olight product or two are used daily/nightly on our farm.
I also carry 1 Zebra Light which I love for it's small size, while still using the 18650.

I've owned Olight flashlights (among others) for four or five years now. I've done overnight solo camping, extended camping/backpacking, used them at work, etc. The only issue I've ever had with Olight was the original R50 light that they made that had bad batteries (proprietary 26650 batteries). Other than that, have no issues with their various models (I own several M2R Pros, Baton Pro, Baton 3, etc.) as well as Surefire, Streamlight, etc. From what I've seen, Olights are built just as well as any of the others. After all of the abuse from drops, camping, handyman work, etc. all of my Olights are still working fine except the original R50 lights due to the batteries being discontinue (I can use regular 26650 batteries in them, but that doesn't support their magnetic charging capability).

Thank you for the video Vanessa, I have to disagree with you however on the Olights. I have many Olights, all of which I have paid for myself. I have not had any problems with any of them. I own 20 or so Olights and have been carrying an S30R Baton 2 every day for the past 5 years. Still using the original battery, everyday for work. I have Olights by my bedside, in my cars, in my get home bags, on most of my rifles and handguns, and on my person every day and I have not had any problems with any of them. Sure, I have to clean the charging contacts with alchohol wipes occassionally, but that is to be expected. When I grab one of these Olights I know its going to work for me, thats what I have come to expect from Olight. Just bought two of the Olight globes yesterday, cant wait to get those in the mail. I dont have a youtube channel or anything, but I can tell you that I dont really look at other brands of flashlights anymore. Its Olight for me.

First thing: Most flashlights problems happen because of dirty contacts. Try cleaning the contacts with rubbing alcohol, both positive and negative, the end of the spring AND tube endings and threads (everything in the current path). I've had this happen more times than I can count, even with my vaporizer.
Even the best flashlight can let you down for many reasons. I go by the rule of two is one and one is none, so I always carry 2 flashlights and one headlamp as a minimum.

Luckily I had one of those tiny thumb type lights on my key chain and exhausted the battery in it but got out ok and was able to replace the battery in my micro streamlite with a new one from my duty bag.

Cynical, perhaps, but in my view I am being more pragmatic than anything else. I have O Light flashlights and have had no issues with them. I have several intermediate sizes and a couple m2r warriors in the older 1500L model. Some are being subjected to AR service and have done well. I had one issue with a M2R and was promptly shipped a replacement and told to keep original. It was a led quadrant that was failed-full power was totally fine. So I also have surefire, streamlight, etc…. All I can say is pick your own poison but olights have proven themselves time and time again for me. The time to get olights is when they are having a flash sale or buy on A. I have never been given a Olight. Just one replacement! We have owned 2 Olight headlamps for the last 18 months. We cannot fault them in any way. We have only replaced the headlamp elastic band on both recently. We are travelling full time and have used the headlamps on a daily basis, every night since purchasing from dusk till the time we settle...anywhere up to 4 to 5 hours per night and sometimes throughout the day if we need light for doing something in a dark spot. Usually they are on moonlight or the next setting up. Our only issue has been the head band not staying tight...usually a small adjustment and they are fine...we havent had any problems with them at all and still using the original batteries. We do put them into turbo mode....but rarely because it can shorten the life of the battery.
The shrewd advertising campaign that they pursue is modern online business tactics.
We have an Olight Javelot for emergencies..and have two Shen Yu (similar to the old maglights) spotlights for the same reason.
The interesting thing is, we have hardly seen any advertising for them on you tube in Australia. Bought ours after seeing a fellow you tuber using them who is based in the UK. Up until the day that we purchased these, we were using $30 cheap knock offs and having to replace them and the 18650 batteries 3 to 4 times per year...We spent more in a year on 4 of the cheap ones each per year than we have on the Olights.

I own about 6 Olight products. They seem well built but I haven't had them long enough or have I subjected them to heavy duty usage so time will tell if they hold up. The biggest gripe I hear is when a product fails, the warranty support is almost nonexistent. I suspect this is due to the products being made in China and there is little to no consumer recourse. What good is a 5 Year Warranty when the support is not there? One change I would like to see is more honesty in marketing. People get sucked in on high turbo ratings which are obtained under totally unrealistic laboratory conditions. For instance, 20,000 Lumens in Turbo mode is a great sell except in reality, it will only last for 20 seconds before it scales down or it will burn your hands if you force it over and over. Quite frankly, I would like the Turbo mode eliminated and the High ratings increased instead. Vanessa is "Spot On" about one thing. Most flashlight reviews are useless because any negative issues disclosed will end the chain of free flashlights or cash.

They have some idiotic designs that have bitten them in the butt multiple times and they still continue to not learn from their mistakes, even when they get warning signs in advance there's going to be a problem with a yet to be released product. Many people, myself included, warned them about their bad switch design causing problems on the M2R Pro. Did they listen? No. They released the Warrior Mini with the same flawed switch design. How'd that work out for them? That's right, they had to do a recall as so many people had their lights self destruct.

A friend of mine was recently telling me Olight wouldn't leave him alone either, this is not good and stressful.

I agree with this lady: Olight is getting a bit much. They're massively overpriced: They can have flash sales selling torches at half the price and they are still making a profit They MUST be profiting on the flash sales because no WAY are they selling at a loss.
They use those proprietary batteries which mean you have to buy the battery from Olight. You then go to buy a new battery and it costs £30 UK and is PERMANENTLY out of stock.
They need to reduce their prices (they are made in China for goodness sake) and also make their torches compatible with regular 18650's.
Plus their aggressive advertising with sending free products and compliments en masse to every you tuber they possibly can is getting annoying.

Hi Vanessa. I own several Olights, and I think I might have a possible answer. Olights are very battery specific. The 18650's look the same but some are specific to the model they are issued to. As are the "chargers" and so even if the battery works in another model it may not charge. The chargers are model specific as well. And finally, is the "lock-out" mode. You can put the unit in lock-out by accident and if you are not aware of this the unit will seem dead. Hope this helps.

Hi Vanessa, I found this video extremely interesting, and admire your honesty and integrity, and you've told them in no uncertain terms, 'this lady's not for turning'! I'm really surprised you've got so many failed flashlights, considering there's not that much to go wrong, more so if they're rechargeable, but I can't tell which type they are. I'm assuming they're not Lithium Ion, as these are extremely reliable, not like nic-cads, which need constant recharging when not in use! Stand up and be counted! is the motto. good on you.🌹💗🌹

I've never seen an Olight ad except a few on facebook- I don't know what's so aggressive about them. The lights hold up super well on patrol on overnight watch both in the USA and overseas. It's a good product, certainly the best bang for the buck.

Great informative video!! Sounds like the corporation is run by aggressively programmed computers (or AI, maybe?) and that there is little (if any) humans working at an actual "corporate office!" Disgusting business practice! Good for you......for pulling off the veil to reveal the truth behind product review videos! Lesson learned! All the best to you!

This couldn't be farther from the truth, actually. If you go to the Olight Facebook group you'll find tons of representatives willing to do anything they can to help folks. They also have a live chat feature on their website and if you need help you can click there and speak to someone who will have you squared away in no time.

There's not much that can go wrong with a flashlight. The reason they don't turn on is either the battery, the bulb or the switch. I suspect that the led bulbs are under size (too much voltage for the leds, so that they get the brightness at the expense of bulb life) or just poor quality bulbs. A good bulb would have more and higher rated leds running on lower voltage to get the same brightness. Yes it's a few dollars more for a better bulb but for $150 flashlight it should have the best bulb. When a high quality led wears out it just gets dimmer over a very long time, like 20 years. It doesn't burn out if it's being fed the proper voltage. Same with household bulbs. They used to claim 20,000 hours. The bulbs were lasting too long so they put less led in them and raised the voltage per led to get the same brightness. Now they last only 5,000 or 10,000 hours for the same price.

As someone who repairs electronics I would make sure no dust or debris has collected in the tail switch, especially if it is magnetic. Try blowing it out to clean it.

I have an i3T EOS and an i5T EOS, never a problem with them. The i3T ended up at my father's, who is not very gentle with things, and it still works flawlessly. i5T EOS is my EDC flashlight and a backup for camping, it has been dropped 100 times on concrete, ground and water and everything is still ok except for the aesthetic :)
