My Dad got me to love the water. We always had a fishing boat and he would take me out often. He always wanted a larger cruising boat but it never happened. A few years after he passed we bought our first. I am sure he rides with me in spirit. Thanks again for sharing your history.
Thanks for sharing your story!
As for our boating journey, you'll probably know a bit about the upcoming Sea Rays in this series, but I'll be sure to add some 'behind the scenes' type of stories as how we got the most recent Boogaboo boats. Spoiler alert; Anchor Girl & I actually didn't get a divorce after buying the 400 sedan - but it came close a few times ;-)
For sure you are "flush" with great boating stories. We are heading up to get ours ready for launch TOMORROW!!!!!!!!!.
Yup, you gotta know that at some point, my boating stories will end up in 💩😂
Season starts soon!!!
That was emotional, I paused the video where I see you and your father together to let that sink in. We all have a story to tell and I keep that in mind when I encounter people that I don't know. Fathers are a pilar in a family and there's a noticable gap when they leave; as there's usually also a noticable great life ahead thanks to them: a Corona to our fantastic fathers and thanks for sharing that you got stuck in ice, it was for the love of boating. Another Corona :) Love the video.
I'm way ahead of you. Cheers! 🍻
Those 268’s are classics now. I’ve actually thought about starting a refurbishing business and buy good condition 268’s and 250-270 Sundancers from the 80’s and repower them with EFI engines and other modern conveniences. Even with that cost they’d still be cheaper than anything currently on the market, especially in a cruiser configuration. The 260 Merc is no speed demon but with the right prop, it still moves respectably and has decent fuel economy, but obviously the 454 or 350 Magnum would have made you happier but those were kind of rare. I only got the dreaded “two-foot-itist” once and have been happy with my 250 DA for almost THREE decades now!
Yes, decent boats, but many suffered from osmosis - including this one. The folks who bought it from us were aware of the situation (I advertised the condition when selling) immediately took it to another marina to have the bottom done. A big job, but that boat is still in the area to this day - and we sold it 20 years ago!
Great job Paul! What great memories for you and your family. Obviously your father had a lot to do with that. Cheers to him as well.
Thank you Jeff. Yes, my dad's boating influence was a major motivator for us to get into our own boats. Glad we did 😀
Hi Paul,
Love the series, I have said it before also, the 300 was a beautiful craft, absolutely agree the 268 was underpowered for that era, I came across a 268 early in my boating search, but I did not buy it. Your boat series is terrific and your 330 was stunning, and the 370 is just another example of your awesome boats you have owned.
Take care
We've been fortunate to have found some good ones over the years - even if it means traveling to another country to get the right one 😉
Glad you're enjoying the series!!
Hey Paul.... loving this series! It's great to be able to look back through the years and see this sort of thing!
I'm sure in ALL the videos you've done, you must have mentioned this but I don't know the story. How did you guys come up with the name Boogaboo? We've got a story and reason for the name of our boats...what's yours? As far as your head/washroom issues go....you think you've got issues?....mine cost me the price of a new (to us) boat one time!
Great videos as usual and like I said, loving the series!
Good to hear, thanks! The next one might be a little longer, as by that time I had upgraded my cameras and took a LOT more photos 😂
As for the name Boogaboo, that's an amalgamation of the nicknames for us, as well as our two kids.
Hello Paul, my parents were landlubbers, and I only went to the water at my uncle's cabin on Lake Memphrey Magog, I know I misspelled that after being an American for so long. Country girl and I love your videos and we are now part of your family and enjoy the look back, you also have inspired us to get a boat and want to follow you on your adventures. Can't wait for the launch and the start up of the Blues Brother. I mentioned that before but I am waiting to hear those 454's purr. Your friend in Massachusetts.
Relaunch starts next week at the marina 👍👍👍👍
Looking forward to your Sea Ray 300 video. Those were cool boats for their size. If I remember, they had a 12’ beam which made them seem like they were so much bigger than their actual size.
Yes, the extra beam was really noticeable for us when we moved up from the 268. We actually did that move so we would have more room with the kids, but by that point they had lost interest in hanging out with mom and dad. But fast forward a few years afterwards and they were back. Suddenly 'the old folks' were cool again 😆
Nice boat. I know it well. My Mom and Dad had a 1986 268 Weekender till 2019. It is the most well used boat I have ever seen. Take care.
As I mentioned, that was the boat on which we started to actually do some real cruising with.
Thats still a good looking boat paul the onky issue from my perspective is the IO I've had three and everyone ended up being an issue
We also had three Sea Rays with I/O setups and I much, much prefer the inboards/vee-drives 👍
Man I wish I could email you some of the pictures I have that are similar to yours. I miss that V8 Merc!
You have the ability to post all the photos you want on your channel's Community tab. . .
I really enjoyed our 1989 268DA with 7.4L/Bravo 1. That was the boat we were in for our first North Channel cruise. During that trip, I was SHOCKED when my wife said, "We need a bigger boat". A year later I had a 1989 300DA that we had for 15 years until getting our current 330DA.
Very cool! Similar story with us, but it was on our summer cruise of 2004. After being away for a week or so, I found myself tripping over Anchor Girl while at an overnight spot when I told HER we needed a bigger boat. And ya know what? She agreed 😂
I started off with a little 220 or 240 Sea Ray. I took my sig other on a high speed trip on the Detroit River on a rough day and after feeding the fish her breakfast she suggested getting a bigger boat once back at the marina.
People we knew, Fred & Gloria, from Kitchener invited us onboard their 268 at Honey Harbour back in the late 80's early 90s. I love this vintage of SeaRay and yours looked great when you had it! Loving these boating history videos Paul!
What got you into boating Mark - and in particular, that lovely 370 Sundancer?
@@BoatingWithBoogaboo Well, my grandfather and great grandfather were both merchant seamen so I suppose it is in my blood. I sailed a small slloop made in Koma, Ontario when I was a young teen. Then years later my best friend had us on his Doral a few times and the urge surfaced. Our first boat was a Doral bought at Crates! We worked through a Thompson Santa Cruz 3100 then bought the Searay in 2012. That's it in a nutshell!
Love the sea ray series. Sorry to hear about your dad. Cheers from Killarney Ontario
Thanks- we still have four more Sea Ray's (so far) to go ;-)
Love the look back! For a long time I wanted a 268, but I could only find a 1986 250 Sundancer for sale when I was looking. I then moved up to a 1993 300 Sundancer. I have owned five Sea Ray Sundancers; 25’, 27’, 30’, and two 33’. I don’t currently own a sea Ray, but I will eventually get another one. Many boat manufacturers have moved away from the cabin cruisers, but I wouldn’t have anything else. It’s great to follow your love for boating.
Yes, unfortunately Sea Ray doesn't even build 'real boats' anymore, only glorified bow riders that they try to pass off as Sundancers. Sad to see that once proud name having fallen to producing outboard day boats.
Oh well, we love our 370 Sundancer and all the comforts of an actual cruiser 😁
I purchased a 2009 Formula 40PC during Covid after selling my 1997 Sea Ray 330 Sundancer. I couldnt find a decent Sea Ray in my area. I like things about my Formula, but i loved all of my Sea Ray Sundancers. I see more Sea Rays on my future. Enjoy!
We couldn't find a decent Sundancer in our area either, so we travelled 450 miles to Ohio to buy the current Boogaboo! 😁
Totally enjoying! Thank you for this series.
Glad you enjoy it!
My father-in-law had an 1986 Sea Ray 268 Sundancer that looked just yours except it had the burgundy accent color scheme and canvas (I like the blue better though) and twin V6 bravo ones. I met my wife Allison in 1987 on that boat during a Labor Day weekend dock party in Beach Haven, NJ. She was attending classes at Rutgers and staying alone on the boat on the weekends to reduce her commute to school. This brings back very fond memories of our early boating days together. I didn't do much boating with my dad after childhood and I wish I had before he passed. Enjoy those memories and thanks for sharing this story!
Sounds like positive memories all around.
And that twin engine setup would have been preferred, but we made the most of what we had back in those days. Still love our boating lifestyle 😀
@@BoatingWithBoogaboo Yes they were. But knowing what I know now I wouldn’t want the maintenance cost of twin stern drives - particularly for use in salt water where I’ve spent my boating life. That’s why we have inboards now, right? We’re wiser and more experienced boaters!
@Motorvader I like to tell myself that 😉
Looks like you're anchored off of Fox island?
Well, right now I'm in our living room, but yes, a couple of the pics were taken at Fox Island 😀
Really like your look back at your boating history
Glad you're enjoying it. This has been a long time coming, as I wanted to give background as to how my dad influenced me all those years ago.
Ice out is always safest after April 15th !
April 15th?!?! The season's already half over by then 🤣
Your dads been with you this whole time.
❤️
This reminds me of my upbringing with my family, my father was such an inspiration to
My boating addiction, my mom
And dad bought there first boat in 1961 and had many boats for 50 years. I lost my father as well and had him down on the boat, which he loved so much.
Thanks for your videos they are awesome!
So glad you are enjoying these videos. And good to learn about your boating experience with your dad. I'm hoping that our influence will stay with our grand-kids over the years, as I still does with me. . .
Nice family pictures. Must bring back some good memories.😊
Sure do!
Wow cool boats!! Really nice to how many cool boats you have had over the years. 😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍
That one was probably the coolest - frozen cold 🥶🤣
