    Thank you for the great video Dave!
    Since the first time i was able to lay my eyes on the remains of the front section of the ishtar gate in berlin i have been in total awe as to how impressive these early civilisations actually could be. Just realising that these people had generations of lives, developing one of the first languages, trading systems and these primordial justice systems will always fill my head with wonder as to how daily life would've been in one of these ancient civilisations.
    I am excited to learn more in part 4!

      Are you stupid? The reason the first civilizations sprung up in Mesopotamia was because it used to be an incredible fertile land.

    • @orbatos
      @orbatos Місяць тому +3

      It was less dusty at the time, in fact the desertification started *after* the last ice age happened very slowly. It's just that anthropological evidence back that far is rare due to the relatively short-lived building materials available. Unfortunately humans are making it worse, faster now, as the lands that once were the cedar forests of Mesopotamia are completely starved of water by upstream dams to such an extent that the drainage that kept Kuwaiti farmlands alive and the salty ocean water at bay are gone.

      Bro mesopotamia was a heaven its soil is so fertile it was filled with trees and the 2 rivers were flooding constantly making the area swampy and there was a biological diversity in that region it had lions leopards and bears too asiatic ones and forests of its native flora it changed Gradually because of humans interventions in fact the last lion was killed like 150 years ago in iraq

    Really liking this series.. a great summary, sprinkled with details of finds and interesting things about each period, and on how we know these things. Excellent storytelling pattern. The artists impressions are also quite cool, and I hope to goodness people aren't thinking these are just AI. We were in the Senhouse Roman Museum, just a large collection of altars, but the artist renderings were amazing. I get to the British museum a fair bit, and the items there from this period are astounding and it's always the busiest part of the museum

It’s such a long stretch of time I think- that’s my excuse! I thought this series a well presented and clear explanation of it all. Thank you Prof Dave. please after that, remake the science things, i know theres people needing, because i needed it. unfortunately, i did not learn in time. but i'd recommend finding people who can make good 3d animation as it would help a lot, and also speaking a little bit faster (using an editing software) it would help to make the videos faster and a little bit more entertaining. try to find sponsors to keep going because i know theres people needing your work

    • @Aengus42
      @Aengus42 Місяць тому

      Why faster? Faster & interesting aren't linked. What if you're taking notes?
      The act of writing things down aids memory. It stores it in a different part of the brain. It's like saying something out loud instead of just reading it. You hear your voice and that's yet another section of brain.
      Spreading up a video won't make it more memorable. In fact, although I've done no experiments or read of any, come to that, I'd wager a small amount that it'd have the opposite effect.
      A statement made, followed by silence so you can think about it, accompanied with an image that pertains would be optimal I'd say. Maybe with the text written on the screen too.
      But speeding it up would be counterproductive I think.
