  • You have probably heard the term, but you may not be familiar with what it means. If you were raised in the Independent Fundamentalist Baptist movement or if you are familiar with the King James Only movement, then you are likely to have, at least, heard the terms Ruckmanite or Ruckmanism. But what is it exactly?

I thought I would make a similar arguement/tract that I've seen the KJVonlyists do and post it. It is purely entertainment and the statements are not accurate, but who cares right.
(Justifying the Tyndale New Testament over the Authorized Version.)
    1. Tyndale died for that translation, the kjv translators didn't.
    2. Tyndale did his amongst persecution and the kjv was authorized by a king(the world).
    3. Tyndale was a single man who could truly be inspired by the Holy Ghost while the fact that there were so many kjv translators proved that they were translating by the will of man because the translation had to go through so many fact checks. In the Bible, often times God worked through a single prophet at a time when giving His word, this justifies a single man like Tyndale rather than 40+ men
    4. In the preface the kjv translators referenced early church fathers who held "heretical" views, they referenced Jerome a lot who was catholic i believe.
    5. The kjv came out because of politics, and truce between puritans and papists, between the geneva and bishops bible, proof the motive wasn't pure.
    6......
See how easy it is to make stuff up and state it as a fact. I could probably keep going but typed this in a couple of minutes just to prove how easy it is to throw out slanderous accusations without proof, and to make up conspiracies.

And this is the difference between Ruckmanism and Riplingerism. Riplingerism considers the KJV a result of gradual purification, while Ruckmanism considers it brand-new revelation. Both are heresies, because they imply that God couldn't preserve his word for 1500 years.

Sometimes I comment even if I have nothing truly beneficial to say in hopes that the number of comments may indeed contribute to pushing the video out. Can you tell me whether or not that’s the case? I can either add some non-contributing verbiage or spare you. 😊Once again you have been frank without crossing the line to mean. That’s important. Well done.

First, thank you VERY much, Pastor Jonathan, for this video! I really appreciated the little bits-and-bobs you had inserted from various old movies, making the points of your message a bit more relevant - hammering them home, as it were.” (“Surely, you can’t be serious!” “I am serious. And DON’T call me ‘Shirley!” - or that last one from “indigo Montoya:” “Let me explain! … No, there’s no time. Let me sum up: …”). 😂👏🏻 Great use of some humor to help drive the points.
I don’t remember if it was one of your videos (I may have copied the URL somewhere) but I saw that mostly in the KJV and NKJV, the word in Isaiah 49:24-25 they translate as “…prey of the terrible…” is actually different in a number of other versions, old and new: It is rendered as “…prey of the tyrant…” in (for example) the ESV, RSV, but also 1599 Geneva Bible (much preferred by commoners of the day, as I understand it), and in Wycliffe’s version from before the KJV. (Perhaps also in Tyndale’s but I don’t have that version’s name on hand.) King James just couldn’t have THAT word in there, so the translators may have said, “Yes, Your Majesty” and done their best to come up with a “faithful” rendition of the word. 🤷🏻
It makes me sad, in a way, that we “Christians’ are arguing about such less-than-first-priority issues such as words, or style of language, coming close to what the Lord outlined to the Apostle Paul in 2 Timothy 2:23-26. For me, I don’t see why I have to read, or even listen to the Bible being read in a more poetic / antiquated form of English. (Personally, I could read it in German and still get something out of it.) The fact that I am READING and STUDYING the Word of God is what is important. And the “first-priority” issue to which I alluded earlier in this paragraph would be: That God the Father sent God the Son to inhabit the physical body we have come to know as Jesus of Nazareth, who was our sacrifice for all our sins, and not ours only but the sins of the whole world. (1 John 2:1-3)

1 John 2:1-3 is in context with Israel's doctrine of the whole earth will be blessed through Israel. They will be a kingdom of Priests on earth.
It isn't according to Paul's doctrine for the Body of Christ Church. In fact, the Body of Christ Church was one of the hidden secrets (never revealed in Israel's Scripture before it was revealed to Paul), that had Satan known, he never would have crucified Christ in the first place.
I guess you'd have to be a Dispensationalist to believe all of Scripture, and for it all to make sense.

Thus the inquisition continues with these petty squabbling amongst other brothers and sisters instead of focusing on why we are Christians in the first place. We are here to share the gospel to the world, how can we do that when we worry about what right words are what? This is why the Vatican enforced what the Sanhedrin started. Your even going as far as talking poorly about others. Be it true or not, when we do that, we are no better than those whom we talk bad about. This is not good Godly behavior. This isn't edifying or uplifting or pleasant. Aren't we supposed to be focusing on God and his kingdom?

One said that the KJV was the only inspired translation of God's word, all others translations were false. One of the bible students spoke up and asked the ruckmanites saying I was saved thru the Good news for Modern man. Does that make my salvation 2nd class to yours? You could have hear crickets. That day changed my viewpoint from my upbringing in a KJVO baptist church to view other translations as being worthy of use to reach the lost. I favor the ESV today

    Hello,
When it comes to cases like Ruckman I feel it’s important to put him in his proper context:
    1. Ruckman’s view of the KJV does not represent every Baptist Church or KJV only church.
    2. Never throw out the baby with the bath water. Ruckman’s teaching on one NOT being able to lose their salvation is one of the best I’ve ever heard.
    3. It’s perfectly fine to point out where he’s doctrinally wrong, and those who are attacking you for that (even though they disagree with you) are actually harming Ruckman’s legacy by acting like cult members. We can disagree, but we battle not against flesh and blood but against principalities and the rulers of darkness. Once anyone takes aim at a person they out of touch with the spiritual fight.
    4. Some of Ruckman’s crazy views might not end up looking so crazy in the years to come. We shall see. I’ll never buy that we’ll all have male bodies as Christ said in the gospels that there is neither male or female in Heaven. I can’t indulge his racist statement against people of color for a minute. But some of the other crazy things may or may not look crazy depending on how this world goes in the years to come. We’ll see.
In the end, so long as you speak the truth in love you’ll stand before our Lord and hear good and faithful servant. I humbly disagree with you on minor points, but I don’t for a minute believe your heart is anything other than to help others. As a Christian community we need to recognize the fight is against the spiritual armies of darkness and not against other people.
To the followers of Ruckman, make logical points refuting his claims but don’t attack Jonathan Burris. He’s not a wicked person, and where I disagree with him on some issues, he’s trying to bring God’s truth to others as he understands it. If you have issues with his doctrine, refute that without attacking the man.

Pastor Burris, God keeps bringing me back to your web pages because of your great courage in following your Lord. I am sure you have better things to do, but if you have the time I would covet your comments on my comments about the Alistair Begg story. Here is what I said:
WAS ALISTAIR BEGG RIGHT THE FIRST TIME?
Alistair Begg has a church member who was the grandmother of a transgender person who was getting married.
Begg gave the grandmother this advice: Assuming you have rightly stated to your granddaughter God's and your position on the matter then you can attend the wedding and even bring a gift.
Keep in mind that my personal position is thoroughly that homosexual behavior violates God's law, particularly when one is talking about gay marriage.
When this story first broke I was among the first jerks to knee jerk that Begg should not have told the woman she could go and add insult to injury by bringing a gift.
But was not Begg right in his advice like Jesus appears to be in Matthew 9:9-13? Remember also that Begg is a pastor. So many of his critics could not hold down a pastorate to save their life. Think Jonathan Edwards.
Matthew has just been called as a disciple and wishing to spread the good news of the gospel, invites Jesus to his house. Immediately the Pharisees disapprove of Jesus' behavior. Are Begg's critics suggesting that Jesus went to Matthew's house with the intent to show honor or to adopt the sinful sexual and business practices of Matthew's friends? Obviously no to all of the above.
Note that Begg was careful to ask the woman if she had properly voiced her opposition to trans marriage and she said she had. Begg then suggested she bring a gift to show that Christians were not heartless toward gay people.
The Matthew 9 passage teaches us, inter alia, that Christians must go where the lost are if we are to reach them. We are to "seek and to save". Quickie Bible study group prayers do not do the trick. As one street preacher put it, we must be willing to get our hands dirty. And no, this grandmother was not having the affect on the lost that Jesus did at Matthew's house. Yet by her presence at the wedding she may have been the only sermon these people would see for a long time if ever.
Anyway there it is. These comments are here to provoke constructive and meaningful discussion about how close we should get to the lost in trying to reach them for the Gospel. My studied opinion is that the Begg case is a blown call. But I do not think there will be a mad scramble to publicly repent and apologize for any grief the critics have dropped on Begg. Such things seldom happen in this fallen world even among the Redeemed.

    1. If the King James Bible was good enough for Peter Ruckman, then that's good enough for Sam Gipp. Why, you could even say that Ruckman won one for 'the Gipper.'
    2. Peter Ruckman appears to put a different twist on double inspiration than does Roy Bell:
    - Whereas -
    A. Bell says both (1) the original Hebrew & Greek Bible and (2) the English 1611 AV King James Bible are inspired,
    - to the contrary -
    B. Ruckman says that the original Hebrew & Greek Bible is not inspired, but unbeknownst to the original KJV translators, (1) the 1611 AV was the first Bible inspired by the Holy Spirit, the knowledge of which (2) only became revealed three centuries later in the 20th century through the prophetic inspiration of Peter Ruckman.
    3. Peter Ruckman at 9:20-24: "The Greek text is the hallucination of a junkie on crack."
Response: Somehow, I just don't think that was what Paul was referring to in 2 Corinthians 2:12 (KJV):
"I knew a man in Christ above fourteen years ago, (whether in the body, I cannot tell; or whether out of the body, I cannot tell: God knoweth;) such an one caught up to the third heaven."
    4. Peter Ruckman at 11:54 - 12:06: "Any advanced revelations given by the Holy Spirit are always revealed first from the King's English as the authoritative standard for truth in the universal language of the end times."
Response: This is not revealed anywhere in the 1611 AV, so I assume this statement belongs to Ruckman's office of 20th century prophetic inspiration. What a guy ... he had both the past and the future covered.
    5. Pastor Burriss at 14:33-40: "Over the last five months, I've had Ruckmanite after Ruckmanite question my salvation for rejecting their position."
Response: That's a new one on me. I've heard of 'justification by faith alone' when Martin Luther in his 1522 German translation of the New Testament added the word 'alone' (Allein) to Romans 3:28 to read "For we hold that a man is justified by faith 'alone' (Allein)." But for the IFB to insist on 'justification by KJV alone'?
    6. Pastor Burriss at 14:41-50: "Even Brother Roy Bell, who holds a great affinity for Peter Ruckman, told me last weekend that I'll give an account at the judgment seat of Christ for attacking the Word of God."
Response: Well Brother Roy, we'll all have to give an account for ourselves at the judgment seat of Christ, but I am grateful that at least you have not declared Pastor Burriss ANATHEMA ... yet.

Thank you for clarifying this for me i fell into that "KJV only" trap for a while but didn't quite understand why well that at least it entailed at least any version after that like nkjv etc.
...Back when the mandela effect was in the news some even said that satan and the enemy camp had actually changed scripture in Isaiah 11:6 from lion to wolf even in the kjv and deep down i knew God would never allow that despite the fact i do believe a lot of "conspiracy theories" as related to end times eschatology...
Then another question would be what about the homosexual agenda of producing a queen james version and i answer my own question probably I haven't seen it yet!
Anderson teaches that all homosexuals are reprobates and can't be saved and they are the only reprobates there are as a whole and i sure as heck know many gay ppl get saved so imo he's always been to me to be avoided.
Im trying to learn about hyper dispensationalism well what it means exactly and from my learnings I've seen i was sort of wrong there too and need correction thru hearing other pastors online such as Gene Kim Robert Breaker and even televangelist Les Feldick and how Church began with Paul of course he is our apostle but not founder of the Church but I didn't know that's included in their belief and i know certain books were meant for others of course 2 Timothy 3:16 but didn't know of the Matthew Hebrews argument which I'm now learning about.
So what then is a dispensationalist because i always thought that's what i was every 1000 years a new one starts ending with the last one being Christ's reign on earth.
I know the Holy Spirit will lead me to all truth sure am going down a bunch of rabbit holes in the process though but want to get it right as thorough as possible at least and sure glad the issue of Believe the Gospel is cemented 1CORINTHIANS 15:1-4 John 3:16

The Apostle Paul may have had scribes who he dictated to & maybe other authors of the NT did, also; but there’s no way anyone can convince me the KJB translators were inspired by God & no one else was (including authors of NT). I guess Ruckman never read the Preface of the KJB. Thank you for this indepth on Peter Ruckman. All will be judged by God, not by “Brother Roy”; and since you are exhorting people to prove all things while upholding the Bible as inspired by God, you are in the right according to scripture.

I was in an IFB church after being saved. I enjoyed it and I learnt a lot. It was KJVO. I had a very strong and mature Christian friend who would recommend I find another ‘church’ as the one I was attended was very legalistic.
Anyway, I am with another IFB church but they use the NKJV! I didn’t think it was possible. With that said, periodically, and at least once every year, I struggle with not using the KJV. Once that is inside your head, it is hard to truly get out. Intellectually you know it isn’t right, but there is a subconscience undertow that always seems to creep up. My carry with me everywhere Bible is a NKJV so the church was a right fit. I have approx. 42 others, so I reference them all (except NIV.. haha that one I cannot get comfortable with given the hate for it that I was indoctrinated with ).. I digress. I am glad I attend an IFB church that is not KJVO.

Yes, I tend to agree, and from having read Dr. Ruckman's commentaries and other materials, it is true that at times he is hyperbolic when wanting to convey a particular truth from the Scriptures, but personally there is much more of his teachings that are useful than are not. I realize that some of his ideas are silly, like the notion that Psalm 74:8 and the use of "Easter" in Acts 12:4 constitute advanced revelations in the KJB (Casiodoro de Reina used the Spanish term "sinagogas" in 1569; the term "Easter" was used in Matthew's Bible, the Great Bible, the Geneva NT, and the Bishops Bible, and the word is correct in the verse, but not for the reasons taught by Dr. Ruckman, Sam Gipp, etc.), but his biblical insight was amazing. His classroom instruction MP3s from PBI are really good, particularly from the late 70s. until around 2008 or so, when he was still sharp. The meticulous scripture with scripture analysis he gave when going through the historical books of the OT is quite rare, and his refutation of the heresies of Catholicism, baptismal regeneration and tongues, as well as of the many IFB cliches (for example: OT saints looked forward to the cross while we look back at it; Christ bruised Satan's head at Calvary, agape and phileo are different kinds of love) has no doubt helped many believers out there stay grounded.

That being said, I can still cite verses and even give a tract as you can. If God can use the wordless tract without verses, he can use whatever version you use. Most of this is not relevant to whether the King James is God's perfect words or not. Have faith in what you have faith in.

I took the time to research the matter and came to the conclusion that the modern bibles have been compromised, entire verses being changed or completely taken out altogether (the niv being the most dispicable in my opinion).

If the KJV (which I do not have a problem with) is the one true bible, does everyone in the world have to learn English? It cannot be directly translated into most languages for the same reasons we do not have word-for-word translations of the Greek and Hebrew. It's just not possible. EDIT: This is an actual question for the KJV crowd.

Here is where you are missing the point. There are word for word translations of the Greek and Hebrew text, and there are phrase for phrase translations. Phrase translations have a lot of errors. Look up Romans 6:1. NIV changes the meaning completely. It's like whoever wrote it doesn't even understand the difference between a definite artical and indefinite artical. Jahovah Whitnesses did the same with John 1:1
I wonder if Ruckman is after attention or he's just another nutbag.
There are in fact a few grammerical translation issues which absolutely do not effect the original meaning of the Greek text. Yes, the KJV Is the enharent word of God. I understand the NASB has corrected the three minor grammatical errors.

Most of his students and admirers will also deny that they are Fundamental Baptists because instead they are “Bible Believers”, and admirers of Dr. Ruckman alone are “Bible Believers” that’s their code word. They also will deny being Mid-Acts (though functionally that’s what they clearly teach), because Dr. Ruckman has taught them the delusion that they are simply “Bible-believing dispensationalists” (you will literally see them in their books defending "Bible-believing dispensationalism" and what they solely mean is Dr. Ruckman’s dispensational position) which is a title that means absolutely nothing and says nothing about one’s exclusive and particular dispensational views. ALL dispensationalists would say they are “Bible-believing dispensationalists.” And so they go, calling themselves alone “Bible believers” In complete and total ignorance of such logical fallacies and ignorance of church history.

Also, is not at the least the 80% of the AV the result of Tyndale’s choices, Coverdale choices? Were the AV translators trying “to be God” by revising the Bishops Bible? Wasn’t the Bishops Bible God’s words?
What I’m advocating for is sound arguments for the supremacy of the AV and not these, not every argument for a true thing is a good argument. There’s so many ways to make a cogent argument for the AV, this isn’t one of them.

Both him and Hyppoletes quote from the last 12 verses of Mark in the 2nd century but they aren’t present in 3-4th century MSS and scholarship casts doubt on their authenticity. You would really have to throw the baby out with the bathwater in some cases if you were a true textual absolutist. Your points about the long ending of Mark (not the longer long ending of Mark in Codex W) is a topic that is worthy of discussion. I tend to agree that the long ending of Mark should be included, but I would not agree with the disputed portion of 1 John 5:7 or The Pericope Adulterae as being authentic. Cool discussion. I absolutely reject Gematria, Numerology, Numerics, or whatever one wants to call it. It is unbiblical and has its roots in Mysticism. There is no place in scripture where one is ever taught to handle the scriptures in such a fashion. Yes, it is possible with any large text. You can find where people have done the same with great works of literature over the years. Moby Dick is probably the most popular secular example. Using the same logic and reasoning, one cannot help but realize that Herman Melville, who struggled with atheism, was inspired of God. Else, there is simply no other way to explain all of the amazing revelations in that writing brought to light through Gematria. How can one claim this is a valid tool and not accept The Bible Code?
