There isn’t a single Joey and Dawson scene that lingers in my mind, Joey and Pacey on the other hands, every single romantic scene they had is engraved in my mind.
Having rewatched the show recently, I always thought that Joey's last speech would have been better had she spoken about her love for dawson first, and then spoken about how she felt about Pacey. The interruptions were so contrived too, I guess the writers felt the need to keep the suspense up until the absolute last scene, but I think they lost something as it didn't allow Pacey and Joey to have an on camera reconciliation. I suppose tv was different back then, ratings had to be kept up for adverts etc whereas now we can just binge watch.
I totally agree with that. 😂 I was never completely satisfied with that scene. I think they just wanted to give Dawson and Joey fans something. Which I think was mistake, if they wanted to put Joey and Pacey together, they should do it bravely! I think we need new show, where they are now. 😎
Dawson and Joey had a child-like love. Pacey and Joey's relationship was more about romance and "falling in love" and fun and branching out to new things.
I"m a writer and a huge fan of this couple,and as a fan to me the way they put the final scenes was a little weird,not gonna lie, it was confusing and a little bit stressful even,and even though that was the effect they were going for,even though that on purpose,i still think it's hard to like the way they chose to do that,i think people were just happy that Joey and Pacey ended up together and that's it. But as a writer i gotta say...i understand their choice,i mean,i got they wanted to keep people watching to the last minute to see who Joey would chose,they wanted to keep the audience,that's normal,shows do this all the time,that's not a crime,that's how it works with TV shows...but at the same time i feel like that worked very good in the symbolic aspect of Joey and Pacey,like,in the way they were written. To me they were this couple who didn't need to speak about each other,like,Dawson and Joey,who were always talking about what they were and what was going on between them,all that horrible drama but it never felt to me like Joey and Pacey did that,and that was because they didn't have to,they just fell in love and stayed together,all that drama in the third season it wasn't about their feelings,it was about the situation,and it was always like that with them,they knew what they wanted,even later in the 6 season,when they tried again it wasn't half as dramatic as it was with Dawson,it always felt like their love spoke for itself. Their love didn't need anything to be real,even proximity,it was like their love was in a spiritual level,existed without the need to be anything more that what it was,just like Pacey said "the simple act of being in love with you was enough for me".Somehow it make sense that she talked about Dawson and with Dawson after Pacey,somehow that kept loyal to the way stories were told,with Dawson she always needed to explain herself but with Pacey.. it was obvious and effortless...like their love always was.That's why dispite everything i can think about the ending as a fan,...as a writer i think it was perfect in the deepest way and with much more meaning than if it had been the way around.
