  • The Tarpon 120 Kayak by Wilderness Systems is an excellent sit on top kayak that is great for cruising or fishing. This kayak is lightweight, fast and easy to maneuver. It's easy to load on top of your vehicle as well. 2 large hatches for stowing gear and a large tank well in the stern with bungee cords. If you are looking for a good overall kayak that you can fish in or just recreate, you should consider the Wilderness System Tarpon 120 Kayak. As far as Tarpon 120 stability, it's not the most stable sit on top kayak that you will ever paddle. What it might sacrifice in stability you get back in speed, maneuverability and great tracking.
    The Tarpon 120 kayak is also available on Amazon. amzn.to/1j7xud2

    Thanks for this comprehensive review! I have an older model Tarpon 120 and it’s a great kayak. The hatches are indeed 95% water tight. If you flip and right the kayak quick enough, you won’t get more than a few drops of water inside the hull. If you leave the kayak outside during a heavy rain you will notice some water in the hull though.

      +Rick Downunder Thanks very much. In my video I stated I was going to sell it but I changed my mind and I'm keeping it as a backup. I guess a man can't own too many kayaks. Thanks for watching.

      +zofoblues That's great. I Googled that kayak and it looks to me like you made a great choice. Let me know how you like them after you go out.

      I'm glad to help you. Like I tell everyone though, try to test any kayak in the water before purchasing just to make sure it's suited for you.

      Wendell Rora , I have a 8year old Tarpon 120 that I still use every other day and I love it. I mostly fish in a tidal saltwater river with a lot of current.

      +Jim Cyr You need a kayak and I need to see some kayak vids from Canada. I actually decided to keep this and it's at my son's house when I go see him. You can see it in the Tar River Adventure.

    Well done! I really like all the cool features that the new kayaks have. I've been looking at some of the new Wilderness Systems touring yaks and drooling over them. The hulls really haven't changed much that I can figure over the years compared to my 15-20 year old yaks but the seats and features sure have. That is what interests me, the easy of use and comfort of the newer models.
    That integrated track system is pretty cool no doubt!!! Great spots to mount cameras huh?
    Are you getting something else to replace this one? Or just reducing the collection by 1?

    • @myadventureoutdoors
      @myadventureoutdoors  8 років тому

      +SailingandSuch I'm reducing my collection, currently I have 4 yaks. If you look over my videos you will see that the love of my life is my Hobie Outback with the mirage pedal system. Once you pedal, it's hard to paddle again. You can buy sections of that gear track and put them all over your kayak. Great for mounting cameras, rod holders etc. With the long times I see you in a kayak on one of your adventures, a good seat for you would be very important. As a matter of fact, I have to go catch up on your last kayak adventure. They are better than Netflix.

      Oh ok I gotcha. Yea, I like the Hobie line to, enjoy my Hobie Tandem Island. I imagine if I did more fishing I'd have a Hobie of some sort.
      I've got a bit of that gear track but I really like how it's integrated into the kayak being recessed.
      Better than Netflix? lol That's a good one, thanks!

      Trip Smith , you’re right about the hulls not changing much. I think that’s because they kind of hit the right balance of tracking, stability, and maneuverability from the start. The seat needed the update though, I’ve got an extra cushion on my 8yo Tarpon 120.

    Thanks for your comments.
    I am deciding between Tarpon by Wilderness Systems and Vibe Sea Ghost 130.
    What is your opinion between these two?

    • @myadventureoutdoors
      @myadventureoutdoors  4 роки тому

      I don't know much about the Vibe but the Tarpon 120 is a very tippy feeling kayak. It's fast. It's a good boat. The Vibe is bigger and wider and I think it would be better suited for a variety of water.

    what's the difference between the "regular" Tarpon 120 (or 100) and the Angler model please?

    • @myadventureoutdoors
      @myadventureoutdoors  7 років тому +1

      Not totally sure but I think the difference is the Angler model basically comes rigged as a fishing kayak with a few mods such as anchor trolley etc. Once again, not totally sure about that. This model did not come that way and i made my own mods. As is, it's pretty good for fishing. I just like to add an anchor trolley.

      Adventure Outdoors by the way, that max weight capacity you mentioned, is that excluding gear or is that for everything?

  • @parkerfortune8313

    Does water come in through the scuppers when you where paddling?

    • @myadventureoutdoors
      @myadventureoutdoors  2 роки тому

      No I never had that problem. You can always use scupper plugs if necessary. This is a fast kayak. Paddles very easy. Note, because it's fairly narrow, it's a little more tippy feeling than wider kayaks.

      @@myadventureoutdoors yeah man I’m 180 pounds plus camping gear. I just don’t want there to be a pool of water on my feet when I’m paddling
