Not a bad design for a small rec boat. $1000 sure seems like a lot for it though. My father got a Ocean Kayak Prowler 13, which tend to be around the $900 to $1000 mark, and it has one internal storage hatch and 3 more feet of boat. If you get a chance to check one of them out, I'd recommend it.
I was excited when it got announced, but not so much after I saw that it was basically a plastic raft. As for the price, it's $1000 because the dumbed down Tarpon is now inching towards $1200.
I think that little Crescent CK1 is a lot more boat for rivers like the lower Moke or Lower Stan but it still gets destroyed in the wind on the flat water too. I still use it quite a bit on flat water and in very windy, rough conditions for quick fishing missions and it does the job. Gained some respect for that boat pushing it beyond it’s and my own limitations. For these throw and go type sit on top kayaks there is always going to be some trade off. Still prefer this type platform for class II leisure paddles.
I do not have one (yet) but if you put the dry bag under the hatch with the bottom facing you it might fit better, especially an oval bag, The bottom always seams to be wider.
I would assume that open mystery hatch area in the front is for quickly kicking your sandals / footwear in and equally easy retrieval given the boat is designed for the casual short distance, non serious paddler.
Great review Dan. Looks like it might be a transport barge for the family outings like you were saying. Definitely going to be a hard sell for their dealers if they carry any other fishing kayak brands. I think they missed the mark with this one.

Exactly! I could see it living at our family camp, which is on a small, calm lake. Kids could use it like a paddle board, a swimming raft, picnic in the middle of the lake, drink and smoke in the middle of the lake - lol. But that's a pretty high price-point.

Buy a perception pecador pro 10.0 at $920(stadium seat), perception pecador 10.0 at academy $599(no stadium seat), igloo cooler $15, pfd $8, mallegellan paddle $30.
This boat is confused as to what it is and is supposed to be. Either give us a fully open concept boat, or one with hatches, not the nonsense this boat has. I can think of many others in this pricepoint id want to get vs this one. At this pricepoint I want a trimmable seat.

I’ve spent a ton of time in Prowlers back in the day. Those were the days when Performace mattered! I’m sad they discontinued that model.

I managed to pick up a nearly new Dagger stratos 14.5l for less money than that. It had only been used 3 times 🙃

We did a comparison of the CK1 and the Targa. That will be out in the next few weeks.

I’d check out a 220 Aquabound Tango. Crazy light and really comfy. I use a Astral Ronnie PFD.

Fair enough. The Pescador is one of the best values in the sub $1000 Rec sit on top class.

This what happens when a lesser company purchases a better company and starts to introduce goofy designs and decreased quality.
Wilderness has been going down since they stopped making the Ride series. They keep making yaks no one wants.
